Why Do Stuff Happen?

It began when I was driving past an accident scene that happened on the road right in front of my block. This man seemed to have lost control somehow and swerved his car up the kerb and into a lamp post. It was nothing major - the driver was okay and the front bumper of the car was damaged and dislodged.

But it was the passers-by who happened (or maybe "happened") to be there that made me think. We're all looking at this guy, his car and his bad day. Even if it was self-inflicted through his own carelessness, it still would be, in some shape or form, a misfortune. This guy must be thinking,"Man, what I wouldn't do to switch roles with any of these people just standing there watching this." BOOM, a thought. This could've happened to any of the people there including me. But it was decided that it would happen to him.

God decided.
Why?
Only He knows best.

And the same applies to the rest of us.

Allah knows what we do not. Maybe He saved the guy from a more terrible accident. Maybe there's something wrong with his car and they find out after sending it to the workshop for repairs. Maybe this accident made him a safer and more gracious driver when before he was the opposite. The theories and possibilities are endless but Allah knows the exact reason why it happened.

The more I thought about it, the more I realised this applied to more stuff in life. There is a reason to EVERYTHING that happens on this Earth. Why is the Earth round? Why is the sky blue? Why do we have 2 hands and 2 feet? Why 5 fingers and 5 toes on each hand and feet? I mean, have you seen your feet? (#stupidquestions101) aren't they weird? The more I stare at my feet, the more weirded out I am at them. Don't ask me why I've been staring at my feet.

And then it answers the question that is the title of this post. Why do stuff happen? Because there's a reason and only Lord Almighty knows why. We, being frail humans, can only contemplate why certain things happen to us but ultimately the explanations lie with Allah. We just have to accept what had happened.

And then I found this gem from my App "myDuaa".

قَدَّرَ اللهُ وَما شاءَ فَعَل

Qadarullaahi wa maa shaa'afa'ala

It is the Decree of Allah and He does whatever He wills.

The above is meant to be said and remembered when something you dislike happens to you or you fail at something.

"The strong believer is better and more dear to Allah than the weak believer, and in each of them there is good. Be vigilant for what is to your benefit and seek the help of Allah and do not falter. But when you are stricken by some setback, do not say: 'If only I had done such and such,' rather say: 'It is the Decree of Allah and He does whatever He wills.' For verily the saying 'if (i.e. if only I had) begins the work of the Devil." Muslim 4/2052
