A Dream in Yellow

The theme over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge this week is "Yellow".  Whatever you think of this piece, based on the idea of dreams, you have to admit that it certainly meets the yellow requirement! :)  Put on your yellow thinking cap and create something yourself for the Challenge - you could be the winner of a $50 voucher to shop at Simon Says Stamp.

This was always going to be a fun project to work on because it gave me the chance to take some new stamps out of their packaging and use them for the first time.

I started out by blending my background with Mustard Seed and Wild Honey distress inks then  I used the splatter background from the Cracks and Specks set with Dusty Concord ink for the splatters.  I love the stars from the new Big Top set and stamped them several times with Fired Brick ink.

The eyes were stamped on printer paper in two shades of Black (archival and memento), cut out and fixed in place, then I did the same thing with the skull.  The checkerboard was stamped, coloured with Mustard Seed and cut out then fixed in place.

The curtain wasn't quite wide enough to stretch the full width of my piece so I stamped it twice, coloured it and cut them out.  I fixed the right side in place first then the left side (ending with the central gather) on top.  If I say so myself, it's pretty hard to see the join! :)

Supplies I used included:

No picture listy thing this week, technical difficulties, hopefully resolved soon!  Oh, and it's also why the product lists on previous posts are broken :(

Our ever-generous sponsor Simon Says Stamp is offering a $50 gift voucher as the prize again this week, just make something for the challenge and you could the winner! The winner will be chosen at random from those who enter the challenge, so why not give it a try? At the very least why not head over to the Challenge Blog to see how the other members of the design team have interpreted this weeks theme! :)

A bit of financial advice

The theme over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge this week is "Big Stamp", right in my wheelhouse - I love big stamps, they're so much more versatile than small ones.  Why not dig out one of your big stamps and create something for the Challenge - you could be the winner of a $50 voucher to shop at Simon Says Stamp.

I decided to break out the wide stripes stamp from Simon Says Stamp, it's 6 inches square so big enough for the front of most cards.  I stamped it here with Mustard Seed distress ink and then stamped again with Fired Brick.  See how perfectly the stripes line up?  I love this stamp!  I did the same thing on the canopy piece and then used a circle punch to cut the scallops and fixed them along the edge.  The canopy is slightly raised on 3d foam pieces.

I stamped the chemist and then gave him a circus-appropriate makeover with promarkers.  I used my crop-o-dile to punch two small circles for his buttons and used a black pen to create the faux stitching around his patch and the patch on the circus tent.

The financial advice stickers were printed on the computer, cut out, distressed with Gathered Twigs distress ink and then fixed in place.  As a finishing touch I added the Cirque stamp from the Big Top set and distressed the edges with Gathered Twigs ink before matting the whole thing on black card and then mounting it on my square card.

Those Wonderful Men Who Are Flying Machines

The theme over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge this week is "Winged Things".  That gives you a lot of leeway with the kind of things you might create - birds, butterflies, bees, aeroplanes, angels, the list is a long one!  Why not create something for the Challenge and you could be the winner of a $50 voucher to shop at Simon Says Stamp.

I decided that I was going to make use of the Tim Holtz stamp set "Winged Things 2", but change things up slightly.  (Actually there's also a "Winged Things" set too, which I don't have, I must rectify that!)

I started my journal page by inking the background with Fired Brick distress ink and then using water to stamp the scratches ("Slight Alterations" set) and frank mark ("I See Paris" set).  The dots from the "Mixed Media" set were stamped with Dusty Concord and Shabby Shutters distress ink.

I drew the checkered border by hand on typing paper, cut it out and fixed it in place.  The "FLY" was from the Simon Says Stamp set "Sketched Alphabet", stamped with black archival ink and edged with a white pen.

The heads are the poor disembodied chaps from the "Steampunk" set - I took pity on them and decided to give them limbs!  The two smaller figures use a body from the "Winged Things 2" set and the larger one has a body from the "Dance Card" set and wings stamped from the "School Desk" set.  All were stamped separately, coloured with Promarkers, assembled from their parts and then fixed in place.  The final touch was the crow, which came from the "Haunted Mansion" set.
