There are two official titles to this action-packed pistol anime, just like how Madoka has the prefix of Puella Magi Madoka or Mahou Shoujo Madoka.

For now I would pick Hidan no Aria over Aria the Scarlet Ammo, since the former is easier to type with less characters.

Plot Summary: The story takes place in Tokyo Butei High School, a special school where armed detectives — "Butei" — are trained to use weapons. Kinji Tooyama (voiced by Junji Majima ; he also voiced Ayumu Aikawa in Kore wa Zombie desu ka and Ryūji Takasu in Toradora) is a second-year-student who has a special ability, but he keeps it a secret to maintain an ordinary, peaceful life. However, when he gets caught in a bombing on the way to school, he encounters Kanzaki H. Aria (voiced by a certain tsundere loli seiyuu Rie Kugimiya who also voiced Aisaka Taiga in Toradora and Shana), the most powerful S-Rank Butei student in Assault Studies.

Alright I shall try to explain the last sentence, since I have only watched the first episode (when there's already 4 episodes out for now)... I will rant / form a rough judgement on what is to be expected of Hidan no Aria.

Storyboard opens with main guy Tooyama encountering some killing machine-gun bot that follows him at probably over 70km/h while cycling to school, and his belief that girls don't fall from skies. Unfortunately, Aria did fall from the rooftop and her chests right smack into his face, while gunning down the killer machine bot. So he got saved.

OP sequence starts around here. So I will just shift the OP here too.

OP: [Scarlet Ballet] by May'n

Then he recalls how he enrolled in the Butei High School, and a series of events mentioning a Butei-killer, whose job is to assassinate people in that high school as the Butei people are said to be able to maintain peace and order by any necessary means (in other words, a totalitarian method / governance). Why would anyone hate a bunch of Butei peacekeepers, I have no idea, it's probably some drug ring leader or yakuza group trying out the assassination, it seems.

After the recollection, main guy ends up in a crate with Aria's body over him, her shirt half taken off by the impact, and um, he sees that she has this 36A -> B bra. Fanservice time!

Something shakes within him, and then he suddenly treats Aria like princess and reversely protects her from the attacks of other machine-gun bots. He later explains that it was from a gene trait that drives him to protect girls or something.

Generally the first episode felt like there was a distinctly similar atmosphere to Shakugan no Shana. The plot devices are nothing too new in the action / comedy genre, so it might get boring. Nevertheless, Type B otaku who go for the fanservice and moe characters would not get bored easily from this.

I'm guessing (based on episode 1 alone) this would turn out to be the average action / comedy blend of anime that has a decent chance to get forgotten after about 5 years later if it doesn't renew itself with more fresh media. Currently there are 9 light novel volumes of Hidan no Aria and 2 manga volumes. A total of 13 anime episodes have been planned by JC Staff. It's hard to say where this would head to, since even something as controversial as Shakugan no Shana already has such a huge fanbase. I think Shana fans may have something to like now, though.

I will stick around to see what the next few episodes have in store. But the decision whether I would recommend it to friends later on, is also under consideration.

Plot Summary: Tooru takes a test so she can enter the same high school as Run (pronounced as Ru-un), the girl she likes. She passes, but when she goes to tell Run, she finds her hugging a girl she's never seen before.

A slice-of-life anime that I decided to watch after passing through nearly 2 weeks of going without any anime, due to the aftershocks sent to my brain and body, caused by the events of the long-delayed, heart-stopping episode 11 and the much-awaited ending in episode 12 of Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

A Channel is alike Lucky * Star in many ways, simply put, simply slice-of-life (not the slicing-of-life as depicted in Madoka earlier on).

The main character, I suppose is Run-chan (far left of the pic), who is a super air-head and innocent girl who is mostly sleepy in the mornings and afternoons, and speaks everything with due honesty and doesn't give two thoughts to anything interesting. Except that she is neither an otaku like Izumi Konata, nor does she seem to favour flat chests, as she complimented on her bigger-boobed  friend's ideal figure (Yūko, featured on far right).

Run is voiced by Kaori Fukuhara. No wonder that cute airhead voice, she's Hiiragi Tsukasa from Lucky * Star.

In the middle left is the short Tooru (I couldn't tell, but she is voiced by Aoi Yūki) who has a crush of sorts on Run-chan, and always goes out of her way to protect her. Tooru would always 'bully' Yūko by playing with her boobs, or by squeeze-hugging her.

The middle right girl is Nagi. She is pretty intelligent and often makes quip remarks to her friends. She is sometimes conscious about her weight and looks completely different when she lets her hair down and removes her glasses.

Well, someone's just forgot to wear...

Slice-of-Life anime, well, let's see what they can do with this. There's no general plot direction if you already understand this genre. So far things have been less epic than Lucky * Star, but don't dismiss this title just yet. I have watched 5 episodes and found A Channel to be "okay". But I don't know if I can pull a 24 episode off this one; Lucky * Star managed to do it with absolutely only one spectacular OP. Of course, do look forward to the character songs in nearly each episode of A Channel. It's how they market more songs too.

As for the songs,

OP: [Morning Arch] by Marina Kawano

ED: [Humming Girl] by Aoi Yūki (wait, she's getting incredible, having just finished Madoka and still ongoing Gosick. Aoi Yūki voices Tooru in A Channel, info courtesy of wiki. That is 3 main roles in a row.)

Contents in this post:

1/ To Aru Majutsu no Index episode 23 and 24

2/ Madoka cafe * Madokafe

Despite this being super late, I have finally managed to watch episode 23. It covers the recovery of Kazakiri and later Accelerator joining GROUP and his fight against the Skill-Outs.

Volume 13 of the novel coincides with the events of episodes 20 to 22. However, volume 14 was not portrayed into episode 23. Why this is so, I'm not very sure. Probably the director's call to focus the fighting within Gakuen Toshi (Academy City) first in season 2, then to do the fight over at the magic side in season 3 or something.

The To aru Majutsu no Index Light Novels Volume 13 covers Vento (Wind element) of the Front up until Touma rescues Kazakiri, and his first meeting with Aqua (Water element) of the Back.

Volume 14 covers Touma's trip in possibly France, and his co-operation with Itsuwa when fighting against Terra (Land element) of the Left.

The cover of Volume 15 features Accelerator. I think episodes 23 and 24 covers the contents in Volume 15 light novel, and skipping Volume 14 for now.

Hmm, I went to google and found that "Season 2 is Volume 7-13 and Volume SS1" and does not cover Volume 15 yet. I see...

http://dissidiaforums.com/showthread.php?8795-To-those-who-have-watched-To-Aru-Majutsu-no-Index

Honestly, the anime is super rushed at the back, it's more worth it to read the light novels. Currently I have bought some of the taiwan traditional chinese translated novels for Index, from volumes 13 to 16. The English fan-sub group translated ones can be found in the link at

http://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/index.php?title=To_Aru_Majutsu_no_Index

Episode 24 covers Accelerator's fight against the boss of Skill-Out, as well as the attempted assassination of Misaka Mizuru. Because of the upcoming war, parents of the ability user students wanted to bring them out of Academy City and then Misaka Mizuru was like some leading person in the recovery effort. But the administration in Academy City decided that bringing all the ability users out would weaken their plans (remember the AIM angel) and hence tried to assassinate Mikoto's mom, by using the Skill-Out people. Touma rescues Misaka Mizuru, and then during the ED there is mention of the weapons exhibition (that's in Volume 14).

Well that's the end of To aru Majutsu no Index II. Season 3 should be coming soon once the light novels are done totally, probably volume 24 when we get the news.

As seen on http://www.goodsmilecafe.jp/ , the Puella Magi Madoka cafe / Madokafe has opened for business since 3rd May 2011. If you got the chance, why not visit them? There are some rare exhibits in store as well, and also the amazingly colorful food like Kyuubey curry and Charlotte dessert and Soul Gem drinks.

Some of the food as mentioned.

The tablemat as well as some card showing you the directions within the cafe.

The cup coasters for you to place your drinks onto. THEY NEED SOME LOVE FOR HOMURA-CHAN TOO!!! Oh and not forgetting Kyouko and Sayaka. Come to think of it, technically speaking only Homura-chan survived, then Madoka survived but went to a higher plane of existence.

30 April ~ 01 May, Walpurgisnacht / Walpurgis Night as known to some.

Something pretty amazing happened as well. Now we know why Homura-chan was walking through the desert in the aftermath of Madokami, she was looking for Osama bin Laden.

Madoka marathon anyone?

Those who miss Madoka, may want to see her source of inspiration back in episode 06.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica Episode 06 at 11:45mins into episode 06...

Madoka consults her mother for advice. Not that it is all correct, but there are some things that strike a similar note with me.

~

Madoka: "Can I ask you something?"

...

Madoka:" My friend's in trouble. She's not doing or saying anything wrong. But whenever she tries to do the right thing, it just gets worse."

~

Mom:" That's normal. Unfortunately, it doesn't always end happily if you do the right thing. Actually, the more everyone tries to do what they think is right, the less happiness there is."

~

Madoka:" She's not doing anything wrong. Why can't she be happy? What should I do..."

~

Mom:" It's not the kind of thing you can fix by talking. You want to fix it, even if it's not perfect?"

~

Madoka:" Yeah..."

~

Mom:" Then you need to make something wrong." ~Madoka gives a huh expression~

Mom:" She's too right. She needs something wrong done for her."

~

Madoka:"Wrong...?"

~

Mom:" You might tell a lie, or run away from something. Later, you'll realize it turned out okay. If you're really stuck, try doing something wrong."

~

Madoka:" Will she know I'm doing it for her?"

~

Mom:" She might not. Definitely not soon. I did say this wouldn't be perfect. Either you give up or accept that she won't understand. Madoka, you've grown into a wonderful girl. You never lie and you don't do anything bad. You always try to do the right thing. You're the perfect child." ~~ *drinks sake* ~~

"You need to learn to make mistakes before you grow up."

~

Madoka:" I need to... learn?"

~

Mom:" You heal quickly when you're still young. If you learn how to get hurt gracefully now, it'll help you later. When you've grown up. It's hard when you make mistakes. As you get more responsibilities, it's worse when you mess up."

~

Madoka:" Isn't that hard?"

~

Mom:" It's always hard being an adult. That's what alcohol is for."

~

Madoka:" I can't wait until I can get drunk with you, mom."

~

Mom:" Grow up faster, then! It's really hard, but just as fun."

~~~
I'm pleasantly surprised that the Nanoha vs Madoka poll at http://www.maximalegion.com/?p=3886 actually garnered a total of 52 votes. Which means, people do actually pay attention to Puella Magi / Mahou Shoujo genre. Or so I think.
Let's hold the poll here again, now that Puella Magi Madoka Magica has recently concluded in the wee hours of Good Friday 22 April 2011. Remember to scroll down to vote for your favourite mahou shoujo ^_^
Announcement by invincutable:
Anyways, I realised I haven't been updating on stuff like GOSICK for quite awhile; and especially all the endings of the anime that ended for Winter 2011, reason being, I found out the power of the light novels (which I really bought from Kinokuniya) and so I'm trying to disassemble the scenes and understand the storyboard better in the light novels medium before delving deeper into the anime medium. So, on behalf of MaximaLegion staff I apologise for the thorough lack of updates.
However, pkmmaster11 will happily update you with Kamen Rider and Pokemon, as usual. For now, that is, until I've found enough time to finish up on the light novels and resume the anime portion of updates.
Words cannot simply put my thoughts out onto the table about what to think of the ending. You can probably find a long list of ramblings on other anime blogs, but that isn't my purpose of posting about Madoka here. In any case, I find some slight similarities between this and Kore wa Zombie desu ka episode 11, but I'd prefer the way Madoka was presented, over and above Kore wa Zombie, anytime.
Okay, so SHAFT didn't lie to us, *yet*. At this moment, I was already breaking down into tears just like Homura-chan. T_T
I know you're gonna miss Madoka, but here's some extra bits of info about our goddess: http://wiki.puella-magi.net/100_Questions
and more flash games http://wiki.puella-magi.net/Media
Ready for the rampage of screenshots? Relieve the moments, or watch it on Nico Nico Douga if you wish to, since they have released the last two episodes online.
The finale episode also helps explain why there were two Madokas in the OP animation sequence, the other Madoka with longer hair, that is.
They left us with a poem of sorts. Open the spoiler tag to read it if you have seen it.
[spoiler]
Don't forget.
Always, somewhere,
someone is fighting for you.
--- As long as you remember her,
you are not alone.
[/spoiler]
If you still remember what I've first said in my First Impressions of Madoka, about her in the Magia ED at http://www.maximalegion.com/?p=3629
For Madoka in the ED : don't walk down that path into the darkness gently, as she cannot avert your ultimate destiny. when the day of memories and true wishes come, will you regret for eternity, or cherish it with strength and wisdom, to move on into the horizon?
I think the Magia ED animation was sort of the steering wheel for the possible ending, which turned out quite differently than what I thought (I expected Madoka to make some sort of wise decision to change the damn fate, but she outsmarted me and changed the system)...
Do visit other anime blogs for longer ramblings and theories and arguments, which is not my point of posting about Madoka, because Madoka as a series isn't something to be debated already since the series is over, but it's something to be experienced and remembered from each person's own perspective of the events.
Finally, be it Puella Magi Madoka Magica, or Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica, this ultimately fantastic series will be a lasting memories for years to come.
Oh lol, this just came in from facebook, Homura in ep12 with 6 fingers. Shaft had 1 month to check show quality right? But..
Firstly, sorry, I know Madoka has officially ended on 21st April 2011 26:40 on MBS television. But for those who really wish to relieve the moments without spending too much time, here's your essence of the two final episodes.
Huge spoilers ahead. If you have already watched episodes 11 and 12, you may press the spoiler button, at your own risk :D honestly, I've rewatched the entire Puella Magi Madoka Magica about 3 times before episodes 11 and 12 aired after the earthquake delay. And the finale leaves me breathless, speechless, and tearful in my eyes. Literally...
Awesome attacks, Homura-chan! But... Walpurgisnacht isn't dead yet!
In any case, here are the screenshots for Episode 11. Episode 12 will be in the other post. Sorry for the color distortion, will try to find some way to fix it if possible!
Friday, 15 April 2011
The official website of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica television anime series announced on Sunday that the anime will resume with its 11th and 12th episodes — the final scheduled episodes — on April 21. The anime's final two television episodes had been pre-empted out of "self-restraint" in the aftermath of the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake (Higashi Nihon Daishinsai) disaster, and then delayed temporarily.
The MBS television station in the Kansai area will run the 11th and 12th episodes back-to-back on Thursday, April 21 at 26:40 (effectively Friday, April 22 at 2:40 a.m.) The TBS television station in Tokyo's Kanto area will run the 10th, 11th, and 12th episodes on Thursday, April 21 at 27:00 (Friday, April 22 at 3:00 a.m.) TBS had preempted its airing of the 10th episode due to its news coverage of the earthquake. CBC in central Japan will also air the last three episodes on Sunday, April 24 at 26:45 (Monday, April 25 at 2:45 a.m.). Rather than wait three days, Chūbu fans on the social networking site mixi are organizing a possible bus tour to the areas showing the episodes first. According to a mixi topic posted on Tuesday, the fans will charter a bus if at least 10 people sign up.
After the announcement of the delay, the official Twitter account for the anime had posted that the staff was still aiming to get through the final episodes in April. Early Sunday morning, the anime's series script supervisor Gen Urobuchi reported on his Twitter account that good news would be coming at about 7:00 p.m. Japan Time (6:00 a.m. EDT).
