Makan!

On Tuesday night for dinner me, WZ n Sarah wanted to makan besar so we planned to go to our regular Chinese Restaurant in Kajang. We didn't know that they close on Tuesdays =( So WZ brought us to another place to eat (still in Kajang). It's near NASA (no, I don't think they have anything to do with space programs), a mamak shop.

Photobucket
Spicy Pork Meat!

Photobucket
Curry Spare Pork Ribs, absolutely heavenly!

Ate these 2 dishes with white rice and plain water (save money =P) It was quite windy when we arrived at the restaurant, and after a while it started to rain heavily! By that time we were almost done eating, but I wanted to finish off the curry so the other 2 had to wait for me...while we all got wet! And then our driver, WZ, had this theory where we can't go back because its raining =_=""". And since it was the year end and Baskin Robbins has their 31% off offer, we went and ate a pint there! (@ Alamanda Putrajaya...it wasn't raining there!)

Thankfully it wasn't raining anymore when we reached uni so we COULD go back to the apartment!

Total spent on that evening's excursion: RM16

Not bad at all! Next time must go there n eat again =D (minus the ice cream)

Christmas Gifts!

It's so fun to get Christmas presents! =D Here's what I got this year

Photobucket
L-R: Magnetic soft toy from Edwin (couldn't believe that Edwin actually got us gifts!), Wall-E from Agnes n Sarah (it was wrapped in a printed scarf!), Bookmark from Mr. Mike =O

Photobucket
Sponge name plaque (?) from Janice

It's amazing how people still give me soft toys even though I'm old and ganas =p At the moment Wall-E is on my table looking at me with its head on one side. Everytime I look at it I have to bend my head to the left and go "awwww..." Hahaha syok sendiri! When I get my car back Wall-E will be sitting in the car! =D

This year poor d so I resorted to handmade Christmas cards. (If just give card without present its sad so a handmade one is less sad, right? And I think it's more meaningful...) This was the project I was talking about earlier...hehe..that's why I printed the pictures. Anyway only some had pictures because it's so difficult to find decent pictures! Limited edition k!

I'm still listening to Christmas songs...especially those jazzy ones ;)

Need for speed!

No, this post is not about the video game =P We had Thanksgiving dinner (Every year after Christmas Night) at Mr. Mike's place on Monday night and because I was still in Ipoh at 4pm, I decided I had to drive fast...again! It was jammed up everywhere in Ipoh! Even though I left my house at 3.15pm, it was already 4.15pm by the time I went on the highway and so I was driving fast! Unfortunately some parts had really heavy rain where I slowed down a little (but not too slow!) And whenever possible I sped up to make up for lost time. Some parts were jammed up. Why? Because people simply slow down! Either because somebody wanted to overtake and then slowed everyone down, or because they slowed down to see an accident. At one part there was a van with a busted tyre by the side of the road and people slowed down to see. ALL 3 LANES!! Sampat betul Malaysians!! Oh ya forgot to mention that I drove the Wira back because my car was in the workshop =( Finally reached uni at 6.30pm and then went to get the catered food and then went to Mr. Mike's place. There were only a few people, those who went early to set up the barbecue n stuff. The food was awesome, there was barbequed chicken wings, potatoes, fish, lamb, fried rice, mihun, nuggets, curry (rendang?) chicken and lemonade! I didn't eat that much tho, just one round...should have eaten more =P But anyway we were forced to bring back leftover food so I guess it evens out =P After eating it was sharing time, and everyone shared about Christmas Night n stuff. Must get the videos from Mr. Mike. Every year he records the sharing session and then keeps it somewhere in his archive (?) Hahaha...So must remember to get all the videos from the past 5 years (It has been 5 years?? So fast??)

Barbecued chicken wings!

Here's the credits video that I made but we didn't play (hopefully it loads):

Next year I will be returning as part of the audience! =D Can lepak =P

Back home for Christmas!

Yup I came back for Christmas! Left uni at 4.30pm Wednesday evening and reached Simpang Pulai by 6.30pm! I was flying on the highway! =D So far no summons yet, not that I want one, but...I'm beginning to wonder about our country's highway systems... Or maybe I wasn't going that fast...or they thought that my awesome car can't go that fast....either way I'm glad we got back safe! After dropping off all 3 passengers safely at their stop/house, I reached back at almost 8pm! I could have reached earlier if I didn't sampat see the houses belonging to rich people OR went and sesat in Ipoh old town area =P I wasn't worried about gettng lost, I knew that eventually I'll reach home, just that it will take a longer time, not to mention waste petrol.

Speaking of petrol, I wonder if anyone still bothers about looking for alternative fuel, or drive less and take the public transport more often, because you might still remember the fuss everyone made when petrol was RM2.70/liter and now its only RM1.80/liter. Don't hear anyone complaining anymore, but I'm pretty sure the environment is still complaining!

After service on Christmas morning, went to Ipoh Parade to kill some time before going for lunch. Took a pic of their Christmas Decorations:

Drooling yet? =P

Since I was free I decided to sort out my pics, as well as print out some of the pictures i have on soft copy. (Better to have hard copies!) Almost went bankrupt to print the photos! Also printed because I had a little project to do =P
Tip: Photos saved from Facebook will look blur in 4R, but will look decent in 3R.

Been eating alot...all the weight I managed to lose while preparing for Christmas Night will be back on in no time I guess....sigh...I think it's in every Chindian's blood to eat almost everything on earth...non-stop!!

It's over!

Christmas Night 2008 is over! And it was awesome!! =D Everyone enjoyed the play thoroughly and we're so thrilled! Everyone also said that it was better than last year's one, and I think in a few years time we'll be able to reach West End/Broadway standards! =P

This time somehow I ended up as one of the props crew! Aledi sibuk jadi advisor then they didn't have enough people so I got drafted in also...haha! It was crazy and fun as always, the kekecohan, waiting for our cues, bumping into one another, getting hit by the props (I kena hit by the bed), trying not to be seen by the audience, hoping that the cast won't ruin the fragile props, running in the dark on stage with heavy props and much more! I wasn't stressed at all, considering we completed the props earlier than usual, compared to previous years where the paint was still drying on the props when the play was going on =P Our advisor who graciously lets us store our props in the PPH store kept saying to me "So many props! Must reduce! Where are we gonna keep it??" wahaha! Or something to that effect la...basically every year we keep building more and more stuff, but we also dismantle some stuff to make new stuff so that kind of evens it out. And also with all the drama surrounding the making of this drama, it felt normal, like it would be weird if there was no drama! I guess after 4 years you just get used to it! Time really flies and this was my 5th Christmas Night! Next year coming back as alumni d! wahahaha! Overall I think everything went on smoothly. All glory to God! Hopefully later I wont be too lazy to upload pics =) Must go curi ppl's pictures since I didn't take any because I don't have a camera. *hint hint* Ooh Ooh the Stepping Stones kids were really awesome too!! They were so good that after they performed more people went to the charity booth to donate! Awesome!! Some of the kids asked me "Akka, you designed the crew t-shirt ah?" And i was like..."err...sorta" because I curi the pic off the net =P The kids who performed got the crew t-shirt, and they love it! =D =D The t-shirts have their own drama story to tell, but that's another issue =P I plan to wear the t-shirt everyday until New Year or when someone asks me "wah how long never shower d??", whichever comes first =P

My parents came down for the play this year and they really enjoyed it! =D Since it's my final year la...hehe...I think I forgot to tell them that I was gonna be moving props. They didn't even realize us moving props in the dark. The props crew are efficient! wahhaha!

Photobucket
Fuiyoo crew tag (of course I had a tag with my name and post as publicity director =P)

After this its back to studying! Studying isn't that bad...it's the FYP that's killing me...=S

Going back at 4pm tomorrow...have a Blessed Christmas!! =D

I heart raisin scones!

Basically I heart anything with raisins, eg: raisin bun, raisin bran, walnut bread that contains raisins, raisin stick or just raisins on their own! Anyway the other day I bought raisin scones from Cold Storage (which I also heart!) and put loads of marmalade jam on it and then ate it for supper (din have time to eat dinner cause busy with props) My housemate WZ noticed that I put a lot of jam, and she had that "dahsyat betul budak ni" look. And then I explained to her one of life's principles:

If you must put jam, put ALOT of jam!

True right? =D

Don't have a picture because I was super hungry and I finished the scones (2) before I could take a pic =P

Busy busy busy!

Wah...I've so busy these few weeks helping out with props (I sampatly volunteered to help and elected myself props advisor :P), decor and dunnolah what else. I wonder if there's enough publicity...I think enough la...with the posters and banners....if someone comes up to me and says "but I din know about the event also..." I am so gonna smack them. Means the fella din pay attention to the environment la so din bother looking at the posters. Or never went for class. Anyway we're also having a Charity Booth to raise funds for Stepping Stones Living Center. Visit our booth if you can! =)

Still haven't done my Christmas shopping...sigh...must finish shopping by this week!! What's worse is I have no gift ideas for my beloved housemates!! It's gonna be our last Christmas as housemates here! Anyone got any ideas?

Even the planets are smiling...

I wonder how many of you saw the planets Venus & Jupiter + the Moon smiling at us on the 1st of December. It was simply amazing. After French class at COIT (yes, I'm learning French =D) I was walking towards my car when 2 classmates were taking pictures (or rather, trying to) of the 'smile'. Stood there for a while admiring the view and then went on with my life. A week later I surf the net and find out that its a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing! If my classmates did not try to take some pictures I might not have noticed it! You can read more here and here.

Lesson of the day: Look up towards the sky more often, you never know what you'll see (let's also hope that bird poop doesn't land on you)

Secret Santa

Article from Heartlight.org

Don't Just Wish It!, by Ron Rose

Preparation

There IS a "Secret Santa." Perhaps you've heard of him. I got an email from him last year after I shared the following story.

This real guy walked into the local thrift store and stepped in front of a fella who tried his best to move out of the way. "I'm Secret Santa and I want you to have this," the stranger said as he handed his victim 2 hundred-dollar bills. "Merry Christmas!"

This anonymous Santa is a businessman from Kansas City. His plan is to cross the country, going into dozens of thrift stores, laundromats and bus stations, and walk up to hundreds of strangers who seem like they could use a Franklin or two and light up their lives.

By Christmas this stranger will have given out $75,000. "Is this for real?" the victim asked. "It's for real, buddy," Santa said. "And I can keep it?" "It's yours and you can keep it." "God bless you. I was down to my last 20 cents."

The current Secret Santa made a promise to Mr. Stewart, the original Secret Santa, that he would keep the Santa thing alive. Mr. Stewart had invested the last 25 years of his life giving away more than a million dollars -- one Franklin at a time.

I think there really is a secret Santa in each of us -- it's just a matter of letting him out. God put the spirit of giving in us long before anyone heard of Santa.

Inspiration

Larry had been out of work for months, and in early October his home went into foreclosure. He withdrew $300 from an ATM to use as a deposit on a rent house and put the ATM receipt in his shirt pocket.

With everything happening around him, he forgot the withdrawal. A couple weeks later the bank sent a letter reporting over $1000 in bounced checks along with the NSF fees charged by the bank.

Embarrassed by it all, Larry and his wife kept it to themselves. Both took on part-time jobs. And with Christmas just around the corner, they decided this year would be something small for the girls and nothing for each other. They felt alone and powerless.

It was their secret.

Then in mid December Larry found a $400 check in his church mailbox with a note, "From Your Friends. Merry Christmas."

"To this day, we don't know ..."

A couple weeks later, on Christmas Eve, the family was watching TV when the doorbell rang. Outside on the porch they found sacks of groceries, a complete Christmas dinner, dresses for the girls, and a shirt and tie for Larry. "To this day," Larry says, "we don't know who made 3 dresses, and gave us so much at Christmas. It was a defining moment when God reminded us that HE provides."

Motivation

You don't have to have a million dollars to be a blessing to others. But it would be a great secret calling. There are people all around us who need a bite to eat, a cup of coffee, a smile, a conversation, a kind word, a blessing, a prayer, a gentle lift. Do you see them? You've still got time.

You have something very valuable inside you ... a treasure ... the calling to make a difference in someone this week. God has put it on you ... to give to someone in secret.

Don't waste your time wishing for Santa to come to your house, make a secret trip to a house that needs what you have. Ask God to put you in the path of just the right person this week, the one who needs a visit from secret Santa and then discover the joy of the secret.

Don't just wish it, do it.

Have a blessed Christmas! =)

Bonjour!

Good morning! Oh my, it's been quite a while since I've updated!

Was so tired after CPR (Committee Planning Retreat) at somewhere near Kuala Selangor (or rather somewhere near Kapar Power Station) and so slept early last night (around 10pm?) and then woke up early today (8.40am?) even though the weather is cold and nice and I really should have slept in till it becomes hot. Probably cause I got used to lack of sleep and getting up early. =( We took longer than usual to get there, because we didn't know the way! Should have asked WZ la..she always passes that way when she balik kampung...haha wasted lah!

Anyway CPR was fun, all 13 of us + our advisor went in 4 cars (one had to go back early). I drove my awesome Citroen ZX! We had discussions and planned on how to conduct some of the activities. On Friday night, we had a sharing by our advisor and then we reflected on activities we did last semester. Everyone was tired and we finished quite late. Unsurprisingly, most were very awake after discussions ended, and some even went to the 'beach' for a while! All 13 of us squeezed in one 3 bedroom apartment! It was quite decent, and at a reasonable price =) Unfortunately the place has not been spared from people who do not know how to park properly, as shown in this picture I took from our 7th floor apt (see if you can spot my car):

On Saturday for lunch, we cooked our own meal. We had spaghetti, mashed potatoes, watermelon and mango. Thankfully it was not a disaster, and everyone finished everything (I think its because they were starving...i dunno if it was actually good!) It's also very pressuring to cook in front of 13 starving people! haha! In the afternoon, we went to see fireflies (kelip-kelip) at Kampung Kuantan. They're so pretty!! It was like looking at Christmas trees! =D 5 of us went in our advisor's new Toyota Rush (fuiyoooo!) and kecoh-ed! (4 girls sitting at the back and syok sendiri..taking pictures and laughing...loudly! Luckily we were not thrown out of the car!) We also had an interesting discussion but what happened in the car stays in the car so...there's nothing to report here other than it was fun and we learned some parenting tips and more =P

On Sunday morning we went to Klang to attend church, which was Sheela's (my fellow Chindian who's been hiding from us) church. After church we had Bak Kut Teh (wahhhh!) We sat in 2 tables, one the seniors (with Sheela & Josh Kong) and one the juniors. And then I found out....Sheela has been stalking me thru my blog!! And I thot I knew who my readers are! Haha! So now I'm stalking her blog!

Kapar is kinda dusty and now car is super dirty. Anyone wanna wash for me? If I was at home it would be so easy to wash...but here...no long rubber hose! And no car shampoo...hmmm...also must go check the exhaust part...before it drops off somewhere! Poor ZX!

Here's a cute cat pic for the day =):
funny pictures of cats with captions
more animals

Christmas is coming soon! =D So is Christmas Night! If you haven't RSVP-ed for the event on Facebook, please do so here. =D (It's not compulsory, just cooler to RSVP =P)

Hope you're enjoying the public holiday!

Pain!

Played badminton for almost 2 hours with William yesterday morning, and today my whole body is aching. Reminder to self: next time warm up properly and don't try to play like a pro. It was fun and it was a really good workout! I didn't know I had that much muscle until now...when they're all aching! Can't even walk properly! hahaha...good thing im on holiday =)

This morning washed my car, it was so dirty! The last time I washed the car was more than a month ago! Sorry ZX! And then I washed the City also, cause it was parked next to my car...haha...washing the car when your whole body is aching is not a very good idea, but i'm crazy like that! hahaha!

So my dad got a new toy, a DSLR camera. He got the Nikon D60. Chunted lah! its so cool when it makes that sound when taking a picture! I am such a geek! Will see if I get any nice shots and then post it here =)

Had to edit the poster and banner so here's the final designs:

Whaddaya think?

Anyway I am very angry because some people just don't pay attention! When I say "please check all the info etc and let me know if there's any mistakes" please please please check properly lah ok! Shouldn't have taken up this post la. So unsuitable for the job. Anyway it will be over soon...

Phew!

I've been tagged recently but then I don't think I wanna do those tags, so sorry to those who have tagged me =) Jangan marah ye...hehe =)

Today I spent my day learning how to use photoshop. It's so useful! (you probably know that by know, duh!) Especially the clone stamp tool! Wahahaha...Experimented here n there, clicked here n there, used so many programs and finally managed to do the banner =) I never learn how to use a program formally, usually I use trial and error (or rather the undo button =P) Looks pretty decent, hope its approved by everyone in the Christmas Night committee...Anyway here's a picture of the poster (which was done weeks ago and the picture taken off the net), if anyone is free do come ok =) Will put a pic of the banner soon!

Photobucket

Should have enough info on this poster...if not...I fail!

Homeeeee!

Yep finally back home. Came back on Sunday, wanted to update my blog but somehow too lazy to do that! Reached home at around 3.15pm, was super hungry because had breakfast at around 10.30am at KLCC because I had to stop by there to get my mom's birthday present (will update that in another post) and then window shopped for a while (flat rate for 3 hours of parking, so might as well hang around a bit!) William followed me back so he was stuck with me window shopping at KLCC! Hahaha! Anyway we went to the Galeri Petronas where they had an exhibition titled "Imaging Selfs", portrats by Soeaya Yusof Talismail (it's free =P). Had loads of black and white photos using various types of print for photo representations of around 80 people in the artistic scene in Malaysia. Quite nice, although I wouldn't know how to "see" art, so I was just looking at the pics =)

Gotta go to the Janamanjung Power Plant for a visit related to FYP - just to learn more about the plant, nothing more. Hope I actually learn something there...so its back to Sitiawan for a daytrip! =)

Shepherd's Pie

So most of my friends are blogging about their love life, their marriage plans, fashion and makeup, their emoings or random stuff and here I am, blogging about food! Oh well...food's more interesting! (I am SO gonna be fat in no time!) I do think I spend most of my money on food...hmmm...

I have been watching FRIENDS and I saw that episode where Rachel was preparing dessert for Thanksgiving and she wanted to prepare an English Trifle but the pages of the recipe got stuck together and she ended up with a half English Trifle-half Shepherd's Pie! And then I remembered how good Shepherd's pie tastes and so I Googled the recipe (I will also die if I am cut off from the internet for too long-most people would die from dehydration first but I would die from being starved of the internet!). So here's the recipe, looks pretty simple =)

Easy Shepherd's Pie Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs ground round beef
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1-2 cups vegetables - chopped carrots, corn, peas
  • 1 1/2 - 2 lbs potatoes (3 big ones)
  • 8 tablespoons butter (1 stick)
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt, pepper, other seasonings of choice

Method

1 Peel and quarter potatoes, boil in salted water until tender (about 20 minutes).

2 While the potatoes are cooking, melt 4 Tablespoons butter (1/2 a stick) in large frying pan.

3 Sauté onions in butter until tender over medium heat (10 mins). If you are adding vegetables, add them according to cooking time. Put any carrots in with the onions. Add corn or peas either at the end of the cooking of the onions, or after the meat has initially cooked.

shepherds-pie-1.jpg shepherds-pie-3.jpg

4 Add ground beef and sauté until no longer pink. Add salt and pepper. Add worcesterchire sauce. Add half a cup of beef broth and cook, uncovered, over low heat for 10 minutes, adding more beef broth as necessary to keep moist.

5 Mash potatoes in bowl with remainder of butter, season to taste.

shepherds-pie-4.jpg shepherds-pie-5.jpg

6 Place beef and onions in baking dish. Distribute mashed potatoes on top. Rough up with a fork so that there are peaks that will brown nicely. You can use the fork to make some designs in the potatoes as well.

7 Cook in 400 degree oven until bubbling and brown (about 30 minutes). Broil for last few minutes if necessary to brown.

Serves four.

It's making me hungry! Must try to make this sometime during the break. MmmMmmM =)

New layout

Suddenly I had the idea to rearrange the furniture in my room (in uni hostel). I guess I was bored with the current layout and also the fear that from the arrangement of my speakers it might be too loud and disturb my housemates (no complaints tho =))So after Principles of Management paper yesterday I did a massive rearrange and cleanup (lots of dust under the bed!) So here's the pics before and after.

Hooray!

Petrol price reduced! So must go pour petrol tomorrow! =D

Top Gear will be back on Sunday night (in UK)! Yay!!! Can't wait to watch Top Gear again!! =D

Those are great news. Unfortunately, the weather has been really weird lately. First, a few weeks ago, it kept raining every few hours and the weather was gloomy and all. Now, its so hot I can't study! =( Even when it gets cloudy there's no rain! =(

Too much rain, feel like sleeping. No rain, hot weather, cannot study. =_="

Woooohooooo!!!

No more EMS (Electro-Mechanical Systems)! No more electrical subjects for us Mechanical Engineers to take! For this subject I actually learnt more in 2 days than during the many weeks of lectures...haha! Woohooo!!! One paper down, 4 more to go!!

Sunday morning (Sunday also must have exams...not fair!!) - Principles of Management (POM)

Tuesday afternoon - Power Generation (Must score A!! If not..major burn..haha!)

Wednesday morning - Engineers in Society (EIS) - This one...highest also can get B only I guess...thanks to the biased lecturer!

Friday morning - Heating, Ventilating & Air Conditioning (HVAC) - This paper...is a mixture of Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer and other stuff...another subject where I dunno what's happening...and since my Thermodynamics sucks, I have to memorize everything...not very good eh..but what to do...lecturer talks to the slides during lectures...

I had a break yesterday after EMS paper (only finish one paper lepak d?? =_=") so today must study extra hard! =)

Egg Sandwich

I'm sure you all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Which is why I decided to have 'Phoebe's Big Breakfast' instead of 'Phoebe's Big Lunch' =P. So here's how I make my egg sandwich:

1. Boil 2 eggs
2. Mash eggs with white pepper and margarine
3. Put margarine on bread
4. Put mashed eggs, then add layer of tomato slices, tomato sauce and slice of cheese
5. Put 2nd layer on and you have an egg sandwich!
6. Repeat steps 1 to 5 for 2nd sandwich
7. Eat sandwich slowly to enjoy to the fullest

MmmmmMMMmmMMmmmM =D

So that was my breakfast for Monday morning...not very festive eh...but it was good and healthy! Haha..It didn't really feel like Deepavali cause I was just sitting in the apartment trying to study...

Returned safely

I thought I lost my 512MB pendrive for good, since the last time I remember using it was for the last Techflow meeting which was about 2 weeks ago. I only realized a few days later that I must have dropped somewhere when I took out my car keys from my pocket! I thought I'd never see it again but amazingly, it has returned! Last night Sarah n Agnes went to Al-Salam in Kajang for dinner and the workers who found it kept it nicely and safely and returned it to them. You see, after Techflow 2 weeks ago we went there for late dinner/supper and as usual its the usual bunch of us so they remember us! It seems that they kept it in one of those small plastic zip-lock baggies. So kind of them =) There are still honest people in this world!!

Listening to Andrea Bocelli =) Swaying along to the music!

Jalan Alor or Jalan Kejora?

Taken from Thestar.com.my

It’s decided - Jalan Alor will keep its name

KUALA LUMPUR: Jalan Alor will keep its name - that’s the decision of Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Zulhasnan Rafique.

It is understood that the decision was made by him after listening to feedback from the public and City Hall following the uproar over the name change of the world-renowned street to Jalan Kejora.

Sources said the minister had taken into account the views of both sides before making the decision.

Bone of contention: Fong (left) looking on while a trader points at the new road sign.

However, Zulhasnan, when contacted, declined to confirm his decision, saying that it would be made known next week.

“I have listened to the explanation by the Datuk Bandar. I also understand the wishes of the people in Jalan Alor, especially the hawkers and traders in the area.

“I am fully aware that Jalan Alor is a world-renowned street, particularly its attraction as a food centre for tourists,” he said.

The name Jalan Alor has been in existence for 35 years. Alor means groove or lane in Bahasa Malaysia while Kejora means Venus, the second planet in the solar system.

Zulhasnan said he had studied the various views and had made a decision on the controversy.

“The Datuk Bandar will announce the decision next week, please be patient,” he said.

On Tuesday, Zulhasnan stepped in to intervene after many people voiced out against City Hall’s decision to rename Jalan Alor.

Zulhasnan said he had asked Datuk Ab Hakim Borhan, the Datuk Bandar, for a report on the rationale for the name change.

On Tuesday, The Star reported that web portal Yahoo! returned more than 900,000 results for a search on “Jalan Alor” while news of the name change made it across the globe.

Ab Hakim had said that the decision to rename the road was planned three years ago, with other roads in the Bukit Bintang area to be renamed after planets to create a new image.

Earlier yesterday, traders and residents of Jalan Alor embarked on a signature campaign to protest against the change in the road name.

A group of about 30 traders gathered at the road junction, shouting: “We want Alor! We want Alor!”

Bukit Bintang MP Fong Kui Lun, who organised the campaign, said the traders and residents found the name change a nuisance as they would need to revise their business address, company letterheads, business cards, rubber stamps and update the details in their MyKad, bank accounts and other legal documents.

“This is stupid! I have eight websites and now I have to change the addresses in all of them,” said a businessman.

“It is such stupid move and we are hoping that the DBKL (Kuala Lumpur City Hall) will change its mind on this,” trader Lee Kien Kee said.

Fong said he would submit the signatures to the Datuk Bandar next week.

Makes you wonder, these people got nothing better to do issit? Just sit around and plan for 3 years to change road names? And name them after planets??? It's so sad that they want to change the road names of many famous roads. Especially those from the colonial era which sounds just fine, in face nicer and easier to pronounce than their current names, I think. Especially those roads named after royalty/famous people/??. Like all those nice road names in Ipoh, now changed. When my mom brings me somewhere in town, she remember's it by its old name, and then we see that its some weird name now. They just wanna erase all evidence that we were colonized. (I think I read that in an article sometime ago about changing road names) Honestly, if the new name is decent enough I wouldn't mind. In another article, it was stated that "ROAD names in Kuala Lumpur are changed to make life easier for the postman when delivering letters." If the postmen are good at their jobs, they would know the road names and locations by heart in a matter of days lah! Don't you think changing the names would confuse them?? =_=""" Seriously...why don't these people with power do something more useful? You should read the second article and see for yourself how ridiculous people and rules can get.

Spaghetti ala Phoebeee

As I mentioned earlier, I went to Cold Storage and bought loads of groceries. Among the foodstuff I bought was for spaghetti =D. So here's how I cook spaghetti (everything here is approximate, cause I don't really know the recipe =P):

Ingredients:
2 tomatoes
2 bombay onions
400g minced meat
1 can tomato puree
2 cans prego cheese & herbs
oregano
1 can button mushrooms (slice/dice)
500g spaghetti (boiled and kept for future meals)
2 tbsp olive oil (healthier and italian =P)

Preparation time: 15 mins
Cooking time: 30 mins (can also clean while cooking)
Serves 10 or more meals (depends on the consumer)

Method:
1. Heat up olive oil
2. Stir fry diced onions
3. Add meat and cook till meat is brown
4. Add Prego and then tomato puree
5. Add mushrooms and then diced tomatoes
6. Add oregano to heart's content
7. Keep stirring and add water if necessary.

If you have another rice cooker you can boil the spaghetti while cooking the sauce. Add some salt in the water, and boil spaghetti till it expands a little. Around 15 mins. You can break the spaghetti in half so that it fits in the pan and will be easier to eat =) After boiling, strain the water and mix with some olive oil to prevent spaghetti from sticking together.

Other humins have OCD too!

I heart Cold Storage!

Went grocery shopping at Cold Storage (they have the most awesome stuff!) in Alamanda last Tuesday night and bought up to RM100 worth of groceries! Not surprising though...last time I managed RM140...but wait, that was shared with WZ...so...hmm...anyway with so much food now, I have no money left to go out and eat. Will be hibernating in the apartment until finals ends I guess...

Saw this yogurt thingy there...hmmm...funny name...haha!

Humor Dos and Don'ts

Interesting article found on IEEE Spectrum

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By Carl Selinger
First Published October 2008
Optimist: The glass is half full. Pessimist: The glass is half empty. Engineer: The glass needs to be redesigned.

I’ve told that joke at parties many times and have always gotten a laugh. Tell it to a group of senior engineers who have heard it a hundred times, though, and you’ll get a polite, stony silence at best. Your ability to use humor can play a positive role in your career, but judgment is called for. Here are a few dos and don’ts.

Back in 1997, I met baseball legend Henry “Hank” Aaron. He had arrived early for a meeting at my office. We were alone, and he seemed uncomfortable. Sensing this, I had the New York brashness to tease him about the recent World Series in which the Yankees beat his former team, the Braves. We had a good laugh. Use humor to break the ice.

In those days, one of my co-workers regularly fell asleep in the afternoon while reading. One day our supervisor beckoned us to Andy’s cubicle, where he gently placed a note on his reading material that said, “We’re all watching you!” Andy woke up, saw the note, and looked around sheepishly. We were in hysterics. A bonding experience! Playful stunts can lighten the mood, so long as they don’t offend.

The safer strategy is to tell jokes about yourself and your own foibles. For example, in person, I can implicitly refer to my own appearance. I’m 5 feet 5 inches [1.65 meters] tall and bald. So when others complain they’re having “a bad hair day,” I say, “Every day is a bad hair day for me.” If a program is running late and the moderator asks me to be short, I say, “I’m always short.” Develop your sense of self-deprecating humor.

Those jokes rely on my physical presence, where people can also see me smile. Humor frequently doesn’t convey itself in e-mail. The slightest sarcasm can come across as mean. Using emoticons, such as a :-) or a “wink” ;-), can help. Ensure your messages are taken in the spirit you intended.

Even a joke that is guaranteed to be funny can get you a bad workplace reputation with people who might be put off by these trivial spamlike messages. Don’t mindlessly forward e-mail jokes at work.

On the other hand, you can send free e‑cards for many situations, such as thank-yous, congratulations, and other sentiments. They can be a refreshing change. Just make sure they’re appropriate for a business communication. There’s more to humor than telling jokes. Find ways to add a lighter touch to all your communications.

Rarely are we engineers called upon to entertain, but we often make presentations where humor can hold the audience’s interest and reinforce our points. I was on the engineering panel at a middle school career day recently, and while I didn’t tell any actual jokes, the principal later thanked me for “being so funny.” For example, when I had the students calculate the minimum required “red time” interval at a street intersection, I pretended to be a slow-moving older pedestrian crossing the street. My overacted role-playing was effective and lighthearted. Integrate humor into your talks.

You’ve probably seen cartoons in presentations where the caption is too small to be read, or you just don’t get the point of it. On the other hand, popular comic strips like Dilbert and Peanuts can be useful. I’ve used a Peanuts cartoon to illustrate stress: the first three panels show Charlie Brown lying wide awake all through the night; the last panel shows him standing on the pitcher’s mound, thinking, “Before a big game, there shouldn’t have to be a night before.” Humorous slides must relate to the content. Cartoons must be clear.

There’s a diverse audience out there, and different people find different things funny, or even offensive, so be careful and err on the side of caution. Hank Aaron and I come from disparate worlds—enough so that insulting his team was a bit risky. Be careful of cultural differences.

Humor can be an important facet of your work—and personal—life. Use it wisely.

So, be careful when you joke =)

OCD

I can't stand it when the dishes on the dish rack are not arranged according to the order I've set...it's worse when its just randomly chucked on the dish rack...It's not hazardous or anything but why don't the rest feel the same way about the order of dishes?? I mean...it's so much easier on the eyes when its in a proper order right?

Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do

The first thing that crossed my mind when I was watching Mamma Mia! at the cinema a few weeks back was "If only I was part of the band that was playing all the songs!!" It wasn't even "Hey these people are great actors/actresses" (Ok that was my second thought). My point is, I wish I was playing in a band. But unfortunately I don't play the piano/guitar that well so I can only play up to a sad level! Can't play Abba here unless I have a keyboard =P Anyway after a few weeks of continuously listening to the Mamma Mia! soundtrack and singing along until my throat hurt (I think I know why it's been raining a lot recently...hahaha!) I switched back to listening to James Morrison. He's really awesome! If you haven't heard his song 'You make it real' then go and get the album! Or watch or listen to it on Youtube! Or download it! His songs are easy to play also, and it's easy to sing cause it's low notes! Here's one of my fave songs from his latest album:
