Generation Gap

Talk about generation gap - My students are tutoring the first grade with their reading each morning. If the first grader remembers to bring the homework book back each day, they receive a sticker. Today was the first day to award stickers. They looked in their folders and found stars to use as the sticker. I couldn't believe what I was seeing as they began to try to put the star on the paper. I watched one young man and as he keep tapping the star on the paper. Then he looked at me and said, "There isn't any sticky on it. It won't stay on the paper." At the same time, a girl next to him said, " Miss Snapp, I can't get this to peel!" I told them that there isn't anything to peel and that they needed to lick the star to get it to stick. You should have seen their faces. "Really?" "You're kidding, right?" and "Yuck!" They had NO idea on how to get the star to stick!

Friday celebration

This meant a great deal to me.

Ms. Snapp,

I received this email from your Principal this morning.  Thank you for all you do to ensure a successful experience for our students.  It is professionals like you that make the world go around.  The educators role in the future of our students is huge and we are privileged to have employees such as you that understand that responsibility.  Teachers are where the rubber meets the road and it is teachers like you that ensure our students are up to the tasks the future will bring.

Thank you for your commitment to DCSD and for all you do.
Superintendent Brotherson

I would like to recognize the efforts of Carol Snapp. Carol is the type of teacher who devotes everything she has to her passion of teaching.  It is obvious when I enter her classroom that she has a desire for her students to develop a love for learning. At AES, we have implemented a Tier II tutoring program. I really appreciate Carol's willingness to make sure there is the necessary help for each student. Carol is also one of our tech helpers that is always available to help with various tech issues. I appreciate her proactive attitude to solve issues and make our testing run extremely smooth.  Carol is making a difference at AES by doing WHATEVER IT TAKES!!
Thanks,
Michiel

I actually received one other letter last September, but didn't remember to post it.

    What a day!

What a day!  Brother Anfinson had asked me last week to speak in Sacrament Meeting today.  He assigned me to speak on The Infinite Power of Hope by President Dieter F. Uchtdorf from the October 2008 Conference.  When preparing, I had a difficult time making my remarks fall into line.  How can you change President Uchtdorfs words.  He speaks with some power.  I didn't want to just read the talk either.  I kept searching and studying and found another talk on Hope by Elder Steven E. Snow from April 2011.  Using the thoughts by both of these men, I finally was able to write a talk.

Speaking in Sacrament meeting wasn't enough, it was also my week to teach in Relief Society.  This lesson was about the Plan of Salvation, Chapter 3 from the Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Fielding Smith.

I sure am glad that those two things are over!
