I turned 30 years old!
Thanks Heather, for such a flattering picture of me :)
I thought it was going to be a breeze.
I thought it would come and go and nothing would be different.
I thought it would maybe even be a bit fun to reach another "milestone" in life.
I was kinda wrong :)
Saturday night Riley took me out for a wonderful Japanese dinner. It was so good and really hit the spot. Tempura Veggie Roll anyone? YUM!
Sunday was great, typical family, lazy day.
Then Monday happened. Riley took the day off work to help me out and hang out as a family. We had a to do list a mile long. I dropped Ava off at preschool and headed out to the DMV to get my Utah license. I almost forgot that my Idaho one expires on my birthday (yesterday) But I have been procrastinating it because really who wants to take two kids and drive 40 mins to wait in line forever, take a gross picture, and have to pay a fee for this fun experience. NOT I. So I unwisely waited until the last minute. Bad Idea! Apparently in Utah you need to prove in every single way possible that you are in fact who you say you are. I get the utility bill, license and social security card, but a passport, and birth certificate as well as marriage certificate?!? Isn't that what you have to show to get a social security (with your married name on it) in the first place? Seriously? Guess who doesn't have her birth certificate? Me. I have managed to live 30 years without really needing it all that much, but now I do. I almost started crying right there in the DMV. Probably because I am extra hormonal, but also because the thought of going back and doing it all over again with kids, is a nightmare. (I'm being a bit dramatic, but I'm thirty now, so I'm allowed)
Then when I got home Riley had some news for me. He had been doing the laundry/dishes/cleaning that morning while I was gone and said that the washer just quit working. The dryer already was taking about 2.5 hours to actually dry a load of laundry, but now that washer was full of clothing and water and doing nothing. Awesome news, especially right before Christmas :) So we headed out in search for a new set of laundering machines. We found some, however, they won't be delivered until the 30th, so we get to stink for a week :) It actually kind of a nice excuse to just stay in my jammies today. Less laundry :)
There were MANY great parts of the day, though...
Ava made me a birthday cake. It was fantastic!
I got a free turkey at Winco, and didn't even know it. When I checked out the lady asked me if I wanted one and I said sure! So now we have a turkey in the freezer, just in case. You never know when you might need to thaw out a turkey and take 4 hours to cook it on a short notice :)
I got amazing calls from my family and really felt so blessed for everything in my life.
I had ants on a log for lunch (you know, the celery with peanut butter and raisins) I thought maybe I was getting too mature for such silly, juvenile snacks...but who am I kidding! I ate them and enjoyed them!
Thirty is not so bad, I just hope that forgetting things, having things expire and things breaking down is not a sign of how these thirties work.
I really am grateful and happy to think of all the things that have happened in these last thirty years. I have learned so much and enjoyed so much! Here's to another Thirty!
