This represents some of the electrical work I've done in the kitchen. Here I removed the old 60 amp fuse box. I'm guessing that after they had the new 100amp circuit breaker system added they just used the existing wires because almost all electricity for the house still attached through the fuse box, the wires were just pigtailed together rather than going through the fuses. So I took the big fuse boxes (well one box and one huge junction box) out and replaced it with modern junction boxes. It's a good thing I did because they were not attached to the wall at all, they were only being held up by the wires (which were huge and not flexible so they wouldn't have fallen any time soon but still...). The wiring scares me a little because it's knob and tube wiring in half of the house which is really old but we'll see if I get around to replacing it all. Other electrical stuff I've done is add two new circuits. One for the fridge on the opposite wall and one for the dishwasher. I had to learn to bend conduit without a conduit bender and add wiring when I can't get into the wall cavity easily.
What the sink and only counter space looked like before.
Here's the plumbing without adding stop valves for the sink, a tee for the dishwasher supply line, a tee for the dishwasher waste line and changing the waste plumbing from a two drain sink to a one drain at a different angle and distance from the wall. I feel soo much more comfortable with plumbing now! It can be a hassle though! Especially with just a little leak or just a slightly wrong angle. There was a really nice guy at home depot that helped me out with most of it. Then another day there was a really annoying guy that wouldn't leave me alone for the rest of it. I had to tell him "no, your wrong, that won't work in my situation" three times. It's a good thing I did because the other stuff wouldn't have worked. He would not leave me alone! He even walked me to the register because he'd had to put a number on the piece because there wasn't a barcode. Grrr... I like to figure things out myself not have people watching over my shoulder.
The drain on the bottom of the ceramic/cast iron sink that we got from the restore. It was a hard puzzle to figure out how to get it off but not NEARLY as hard as figuring out how to get the faucet off.
The corroded faucet. We ended up having to use a hacksaw to cut off the faucet above the sink. But we got it! Thank you Weston for helping me take off the stuff from this sink!
The counter after our original sink was taken out and the doors and counter top removed.
Removed sink.
After I'd taken everything apart. I left the back and side because I couldn't remove or add a new side without undoing solvent welded plumbing. So I built the new counter around this after the sink was removed. That's why this was such a big project because I had to take it apart and build it in place.
What I looked like throughout the project.
The new counter supports built. I took the right side off later because I needed to tile under where the dishwasher goes.
While working on taking apart the sink I saw this cool design under the hole where the sprayer goes : ) Unfortunately the sink chipped one of the tiles under it in the dining room. The first hurt in my dining room tiles : ( Sad. At least it's small.
The dishwasher works! It's so great!
Doesn't the sink look awesome! We've so lucked out with finding things at the restore! It helps that we're flexible. I never EVER would have thought I wanted a bisque colored sink or even several of the colored tiles that I got but... when I thought about it I realized I could make them work and now I absolutely love them! I love that the sink is big! My cookie sheets fit it it! My big pan/wok thing does too! Doing dishes are soo much easier now! Wahoo!
We made a snow turtle for our snow creature this year : ) We think it looks great : ) So if you want to see it come drive by our house before the snow melts!
Kitty really really likes laser lights. I wish you could hear how loud she was purring! This was the best I could get but she was jumping higher. Now we're just trying to find a cat toy she'll play with by herself so we don't have to be so involved. She definitely because a lap cat though, she really likes to be by us. I like it more than I thought I would. She's helping to fill the absence of not having a baby.
And Weston is almost done with Anatomy! He's 2/3rds of the way done with his first year of med school. Crazy! We're excited about having a spring break!
