Toledo?

Holy Toledo is right! Weston was accepted!!!!!

We are so excited! We have plans for our future again!!!! I can't tell you how much I hated this waiting game that we played for months! (yes yes, there are lots of exclamation points... I mean every one of them!)

Weston has 3 more interviews that were already scheduled and everything so he will go to those just in case. It may give us more options and it allows him to check out the school for the possibility of completing a resident program there after med school. Syracuse, NY is tomorrow (Mon Feb 23), University of Louisville is on Thursday and U. of Kentucky in Lexington is on Saturday. I'm going out with him to Kentucky so that I can see my family and support him with his interviews and get a feel for the schools myself.

So, that's our news!

Holy Toledo!

... Batman!

Riiiight. So I just got back earlier this week from the grand city of Toledo, Ohio. It was cold. Really cold. Like, never even got above freezing cold. But that's ok, because the interview went fantastically. If that's a word. I really liked the school there. It seemed like everyone was very helpful and the way that the program is outlined seems to be very beneficial to helping students to actually learn what they need to know. Not that I really have any idea what it is that I'm supposed to learn, but I'm just going on faith here. They have an absolutely stunning anatomy lab (you could say it's to die for... but that would be somewhat irrevrent). And everything else just seemed really great. On top of that, my interviews went pretty well. My first was with a pediatrics guy who was incredibly friendly and flat out told me that there's no reason why I shouldn't get in to Toledo. Then agian, he also said that he wouldn't be surprised if I didn't have plenty of other schools practically begging me to come there. That's not exactly happening, so I dunno. The other interviewer also was very positive. Not only did he say that he felt very comfortable talking with me as a person, but he also specifically said "I want you to come here." Granted, he also was quick to point out that the final decision by no means rests with him, but I already knew that.

So all in all, it looks like a very good possibility. On the other hand, we're trying not to get our hopes up too high before they get dashed and shredded to pieces (much like the results of the aforementioned blender) in case I still get rejected. We'll see, though. Just the waiting game some more.

I also got an invite to go out to Louisville to interview. Problem is, they want me there on the 11th of Feb, and it's already Feb. 1st. On top of that, I already have tickets to fly out there at the END of the month for my interview at U of K. The problem is that not only would I have to spend a bunch more money to fly out there, but I'd also miss at least 2, if not 3 days of work in order to do so, which amounts to quite a siginificant amount of money. So, as a result, i might end up turning them down. I already wrote them an email last week asking if there was any way to change it, but three days later I still hadn't heard anything back. So I've emailed them again, but we'll just have to see what they say. If they can't change it, I probably won't go. It's just not worth it, especially considering that their acceptance list might already be full at this point, and they might just be looking for alternates. I just can't get over how inconsiderate it seems. Sure, for someone who lives in KY it's not that hard to just be there whenever, but I gotta fly all the way out from UT! That in itself isn't too bad, but they only gave me a couple of weeks notice, and now they're not responding to me at all, even though they said that I had to email to confirm the appointment anyway. Just seems like they don't really care all that much, so I'm not sure it's the school that I would want to go to anyway if that's the way that their administration treats their potential students.

Ok, enough ranting. I just ate a really good pizza that we made (thanks again for the Pizza Stone, Alyssa!). I'm enjoying the blender, too. Just not at this very moment since I'm full to the fundus with pizza. Two points to everyone who knows what a fundus is.
