Love To Craft Challenge February

The newest anything goes craft challenge at
is now live for the month of February !

This month I'm sharing a few projects I
created for a recent remodel of a room.

The centerpiece of the above wall display is a 12 x 12
scrapbook page I made to showcase photos of Mustang cars.

 I painted a piece of gray 12 x 12 card stock silver.
I measured and cut out three "windows".
Red, white and blue card stock was cut to fit beneath
the cut outs then scored multiple times.
I taped the scored card stock under the cut outs.
A lot of work to recreate the look of
part of a Ford Mustang emblem for a scrap book page,
but it was worth it to me.

Another wall features two shadowboxes.
Above them hangs a large collage photo frame
I custom made many years ago.

Shadow box that I added home made spacers to so I could
mount dimensional dash plaques and hat pins.
The spacers were cut from foam core that I painted black.
They are adhered inside the frame with double stick tape.
A scrap of mat board painted with the same paint as the wall
is the base for the plaques and pins. It rests on top of the
edge of the spacers , the bottom edges are against the glass.

A deeper shadowbox that I was able to mount
some old hot wheels in along with the original
Hot Wheels Club membership "card" received
many years ago. I had the okay to cut apart the original
plastic inserts of the box that the 8 piece collector
car set came in. I was going to have some custom
pieces made from plexiglass for it to save the original box,
but he said he really didn't care, go ahead and cut it up.

I made simple "checkered flag" window valances from a
large buffalo check table cloth.

There are also numerous die cast cars on display that were collected by my father.
We received them after his passing.
Quite a change from the old green painted walls with a country and ivy theme
room it was for the past 17 years, but perfect for us !

Making Memories Crafting Challenge February

Time for the February challenge at
Making Memories Crafting Challenge Blog !

This is an anything crafty goes challenge,
digital creations included,
following this months theme of
Valentine / use red.
Please submit family friendly projects
and read our simple rules first :)

Our generous sponsor this month is
I used the cute digital stamp
to create a printable card front (above)
with inside sentiment (below).

The image was colored in with Photoshop Elements 10
(I'm still learning how to color digitally.....)
then saved as a PNG with a
transparent background so I could import it
into My Memories Suite V8 software to complete
the card. I could have finished it with PSE,
but I like the simplicity of MMS
and having lots of fun digital elements already in
the program to choose from to complete the project.

Wouldn't this image be adorable cut into layers
and made into a paper crafted card?
Print it out several times, cutting away the
feet and face then reattach them with pop dots for dimension.
I would also trim around the ribbon and arms/heart,
popping them up a bit, too.

Thanks for looking :)

House of Cards February Challenge

February 1st,
time for a new challenge at

This months challenge:
love and/or colors
from the inspiration photo below.

I used similar pink colors,
trying to create an ombre effect
on the letter pressed hearts and polka dots
background. I accidentally over blended them
so there isn't as much of a gradient as I wanted.

Circle dies and a punch with coordinating stamp
to create the swinging element in a window.

The stamp was inked with a medium pink then
the edges were rolled onto a darker pink.

I made two of the stamped elements then glued
them back to back with fishing line
between them to suspend it.
The ends of the string were glued between
the front panel and card base front.

Polka dot grosgrain ribbon finishes it off.

Closeup to try to show the "letterpress" effect.

Closeup to try to show the two tone color stamped image
that I added a touch of Pearlex paint to.
This photo also shows the thin ring I cut from pink
card stock to frame the opening.

Thanks for looking =)

Our challenge lasts all month,
plenty of time to create a card to share !

Vintage Birthday Card

I really like how this card turned out !
All supplies used (other than the border punch)
were bought from Stampin' Up! some time ago.

The textured Crumb Cake Coredinations card stock was run through
an embossing folder then lightly sanded to create the background.
It is layered on Blushing Bride card stock and the Vanilla card base.

The rubber stamp image was colored with water based markers
(Regal Rose, Crumb Cake, Soft Suede).

The stamped image was cut out with a die.
Another die in the set was used to create the pink layer underneath.

Two mini flat back pearls attached to the stamped panel.

Dimensionals underneath the stamped panel at the top and bottom
to help hold it in place over the pleated Blushing Bride ribbon
and scalloped punch border

Thanks for looking =)

It's been some time since I've taken the time to enter challenges.  I'm entering this card in the following two challenges I have participated in many times in the past:
Crafting By Designs - Pink, Pretty and Girly   (probably not quite as pink as the challenge coordinators expected , but it is pretty girly!)
Through The Craft Room Door - Anything Goes
Sunny Day Crafting - Scrapbook or Anything Goes (this would be wonderful as part of a scrapbook layout. adhere it with a photo of the birthday lady or use it as part of a pocket page layout)

Homemade Photo Boxes

Yesterday I referred to a set of boxes I made to store photographs in that I made from scratch.
Here is how I made them, custom fit for shelves in an existing storage unit we have.

SUPPLIES:
 heavy chipboard
ruler
pen/pencil
utility knife
cutting mat
heavy duty adhesive
package of photos for size reference

I measured the shelves and the envelope.
Scratch paper, math skills and a little bit of
"engineering" were needed to come up
with a plan on how to make them.

The above photo shows the two short ends
and the base of the box skecthed onto a
12" x 12" piece of chipboard.

The photo below shows the two long sides
sketched onto 12" x 12" chipboard.

I used a utility knife and a straight edge to cut
through the chipboard.  A pair of scissors
were used to trim out the corners.
Make sure they are heavy duty enough to not
break while cutting the chipboard.

Using a straight edge helps when folding the "tabs"

All sides and base cut, folded

I used Gorlla glue wood glue to adhere my pieces
just because it is what I had on hand and
it seemed like a good, thick glue to ho hold
the chipboard pieces together well.

I glued all of the tabs on each side piece together first
and used clothes pins to help hold them in place while drying.

The bottom was glued in after the sides were all set.
You'll want to find something that will fit inside to
help hold it in place while it dries, too.
Just so happens old videocassettes fit in mine.
Yes, we still have VHS tapes !

The finished storage boxes in the end of the cabinet.
There is a door that closes over them,
they are not seen.
I thought about painting the boxes
or covering them with decorative paper.
For now they are staying like this since
no one will ever see them anyway.

The old entertainment center now turned to photo storage unit !
I made simple curtains(pulled back in photo)
to block light and dust from the photo album storage area.
The home made photo boxes are in the ends, covered by doors.

So you are probably wondering just how long
it took me to make them and
why didn't I buy something already made ?

Well, it did take a while to make them,
but it wasn't too time consuming since
they were all exactly the same.
I did it in a sort of assembly line fashion.

I didn't buy something already made
because they had to be a specific size.
I did look at a couple of local stores
for something that might work, but no luck.
Custom making them myself to fit perfectly in the shelves
gave me as much room as possible to store photos, too !

Relatable Comics

Every so often there is a comic strip in our local Sunday paper that really speaks to me.
There was one such strip in the Family Circus this past weekend.

Yes, I do this as I'm sure many of you do as well. Much of my reminiscing now is done while going through digital photos on a computer, trying to choose which to have printed (as I've been working on the past week!).

Here is another set of strips I saved from the Crankshaft comic.
Sad, but true, many kids today don't know what a photo album is ,
among oh so many other things. The circus will soon be among such things :(

And here is a little peek at some of the photos I have yet to put into albums:

Lastly, I custom made boxes from chipboard to fit the shelves of our old entertainment center that were designed to store videotapes in. A little math and "paper engineering" skills plus basic supplies are all you need to make them.  If you are interested in seeing them and how I made them, stop back by my blog tomorrow!

Music Challenge

An 8x10 printed page I created in Photoshop Elements 14 for a birthday.
It was printed and put on display on a table in front of the birthday brownies :)
The song referred to on the print out is  "I Can't Drive 55" by Sammy Hagar.
I changed the word "drive" to "be".
Also, I've been told that a very popular song at the time this pickup truck was being driven by the owner in high school, flame paint job and all, was  "Runnin' With The Devil" by Van Halen.
Supposedly it was played quite often on an 8 track player in the truck !

It is somewhat music related in a fun, different way, so I'm entering it in the current challenge at Digitally Sweet.

EDITED TO ADD: I was Top 3 !

Every Day Is A Gift Card

Some old prestamped and colored images I never made into a card -
until now ! Images are from Stampin' Up!, paper is from an old Die Cuts With A View paper stack.
The image was watercolored. I also added a touch of glitter on the wings.

Thanks for looking =)
