Sympathy Cards for Cassie

I received this lovely handmade card from a long time "pen pal" friend.

Thank you so much, Margy !

The inside rubber stamped sentiment reads:

 fluffy beds

and endless treats

gates to guard

and friends to meet

long, slow walks

and petting hands

safe with God

in dog heaven

I also received one from the veterinarians office.

They included a pull out copy of Rainbow Bridge.

Happy Spring !

I didn't get to see the "Super Moon" because of rain and clouds.

It cleared throughout the day today and hit 82 degrees, a near record breaker !

A card created recently to send to a friend welcoming Spring.

The pink piece of card stock is an old piece, no idea of the color name, from Close To My Heart. I saw a small package of card stock scraps at a yard sale a couple of years ago, all Close To My Heart papers. I've never seen their products in person, but had heard about them and that the papers have white core.

I've never used any of those scraps I bought until now.

I ran it through the Big Shot with the Tulip embossing folder from Stampin' Up!

After it had the embossing on it, I lighly sanded the raised areas to reveal some of the white. This was necessary on this project anyway as the card stock is so thin, the embossing made it crack in several places, showing white. I had intended on sanding it anyway.

The image is stamped with black Stazon ink on water color paper then watercolored with my classic ink pads from Stampin' Up!

The image is from the Spring Gifts stamp set, Stampin' Up!

I layered this on Basic Black card stock.

I added two Prima flowers and the yellow rhinestones came from some old

Halloween "tattoos" bought from the Dollar Spot.

The leaves were created with a scrap of Ceratinly Celery cardstock punched

 with the 5 petal flower punch from Stampin' Up!

An oldie.....

I used the Love It brass template (Stampin' Up!) to create the four leaf clover. After dry embossing the heart on Whisper White card stock, I flipped the card over to chalk (Stampin' Pastels) the raised area through the template, using it as a stencil. The embossed, pierced piece is layered onto Green Galore card stock.

End Of The Rainbow Card

                                          Recognize the Pot Of Gold ?

It was created for this idea.

I decided to take it apart and make it into two cards.

All supplies, other than the green card base, are from Stampin' Up!

The rainbow is a piece of watercolor paper cut with scissors.

I then watercolored it with various classic inks from Stampin' Up!

I sponged Bashful Blue ink over a home made cloud shaped stencil.

The grass is a piece of Certainly Celery card stock trimmed with scissors.

Barely Banana layered onto an unknown brand of textured card stock base.

Pot Of Gold At The End Of The Rainbow

Using various punches, card stock, ink and the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set from Stampin' Up!, I created a pot of gold treat.


At the store recently I saw this rainbow colored gummi stick ( 10c ) and thought of two ideas (likely done before since there are sooooo many creative crafters out there).

Large circle punch and word window punch to create the pot. Trim the top and bottom off of the circle; glue the word window punch along the top edge of the trimmed circle to create the rim of the pot. Punch several 1/4" circles from gold card stock then glue those along the backside top edge to simulate coins.



Use a heavy duty piece of double stick tape or a glue dot (or low melt hot glue) to attach the paper punch pot to a gold coin chocolate piece of candy. Attach this to the bottom of the rainbow colored gummi candy strip.

Use a heart punch (Heart To Heart) to punch out 4 hearts from green card stock (Wild Wasabi). Create a stem from a scrap piece.



Punch a circle from yellow card stock (Daffodil Delight).



Carefully glue all of the tips of the hearts together onto the yellow circle to create a four leaf clover . Add the stem.



Cut a thin strip of white card stock (Whisper White); cut a notch in one end. Stamp with the St. Patrick's Day image from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set with Wild Wasabi ink. Slightly warp the tag, putting a little bend into it. Use a tiny dab of glue (Tombow) under the left end, the straight cut end, and attach it to the clover/circle.



Punch a 1/4" circle from gold card stock and glue on top to create a faux brad (or use a real brad, eyelet, etc).



Attach to the top of the "rainbow" with the same glue that you used to attach the pot and coin to the bottom.






If you want to make a bunch of these, you could easily create a simple tag and pot in My Digital Studio, print them out then hand cut them with scissors. Here is a sample I made:

Non candy idea for classroom treats: Adhere several multi colored pencils to a piece of cardstock to create a rainbow and attach a tag.

The 3D pot of gold is is a repurposed plastic container. I simply wrapped a piece of black card stock ( Basic Black) trimmed to fit around the plastic container, glued into place. I stamped a piece of white tissue paper with an image from the Kiss Me (retired) stamp set from Stampin' Up! Tuck into the container and add gold wrapped pieces of candy. Bend the rainbow gummi candy stick and insert into the pot, attaching each end to the inside. Attach a tag.

Surprise Snowfall - not time to put away my snowmen yet

Woke up to a surprise snowfall today -

huge wet clumps of snowflakes falling !

At times sleet and rain were mixed in.

We ended up with about 2" of snow before the

sleet and rain made it turn to slush.

 I can keep my snowmen out a bit longer :)

Pretty Birthday Card using Recycled Items

When I received a yummy gift of Godiva chocolates for Christmas last year from a long time pen pal friend of mine, I knew I had to reuse the ribbon from the box on a birthday card for her. 

We've been pen pals for 30 years ! We started writing with paper and pencil, sharing not only written words, but sketches, photos and our shared love of horses through the mail. I was always so tickled to get an envelope from her and couldn't wait to write back. I still have every hand written letter and card, etc she has ever sent to me.

 

Times have changed of course. Now we email when we have the time and share stories of our families, work, so on. I like to send hand made cards to her though. I'm so glad we still keep in touch after all of these years. Happy Birthday, dear friend !!!

 

 

 

Supplies used for the card:

Early Espresso, Sage Shadow, Very Vanilla card stock all from Stampin' Up!

Decorative paper is a piece of stationery (the front is cream with an espresso colored border, the design is on the back)

Ribbon from gift box of chocolates

Metal charm came off of an old denim shirt (yes, when shirts are headed to the rag bag I save buttons, etc off of them because I just never know what they could be reused for)

Airstream Trailer Card

Now that I know she's received it, I am able to post this recent creation =)

I have a long time pen pal friend that has an Airstream trailer. She is surely chomping at the bit to get out there camping in it again this year. What better inspiration for a birthday card for her !

We've been internet pen pals for a dozen years or so now. If memory serves, we "met" through a website regarding Mustang cars ? We both share a love of that classic car. Of course over the years there have been many other things to write about and share photos of. I am so glad we are still internet friends ! Happy Birthday, friend !!!

I'm sorry, but I do not have a template for this project. I created it like most of my projects: making a quick sketch then transfer the idea to card stock, draw, cut and assemble as I go. I looked at a photo of her trailer for guidance. I suppose I ought to learn how to make templates and instruction sheets available for download one of these days. . . .

The trailer is made from Metallic Silver card stock from Stampin' Up! I didn't think about taking measurements before I sent it, but I guess it is about 4 x 6 or so in size.

The fold is along the top. I folded a piece of card stock in half, sketched on the shape then cut out both pieces at the same time with a sharp pair of scissors.

The windows were hand cut using a hobby/craft knife then lined with clear plastic. Open it up and lay flat to cut out the windows on the front only. Line the opening with double stick tape (Sticky Strip from Stampin' Up!), cover with clear plastic (Window Sheets from Stampin' Up!) trimmed to just cover the openings and tape.

I added real fabric inside, hand stitched and gathered to simulate curtains. Lay another line of heavy duty double stick tape down on top of the plastic, just outside the opening edge of the windows. Apply the gathered fabric and smoosh well so it will stick in place. Be sure that all of the double stick tape is covered with the fabric, otherwise when you close your card the front will still to the back.

The details were hand drawn with a pencil . The pencil works well on the metallic card stock, however if you need to erase (like I did!), there will be marks left on the card stock.

The wheels, tires and reflectors were created with various punches from Stampin' Up!.  I used Basic Black, Real Red, Pumpkin Pie and Metallic Silver card stocks.

The tank up front was hand drawn and cut out of a scrap of Very Vanilla card stock from Stampin' Up!

This is my first attempt at making a card to resemble and Airstream. If I had more patience, I think it would be neat to cut separate pieces of the Metallic card stock then piece it together to make real seams rather than draw them with a pencil. I'd then go back in with an embossing ink pen and silver embossing powder to make the rivets. Adding an opening door on the opposite side would really be fun !
