Best Wishes - Sketch Frenzy Friday

Flooding is still a problem in this area.  I personally have not been affected, but thousands of homes in the low lying areas near waterways have had extensive water damage.  And some of the communities in cottage country are still in a state of emergency.  The rain we had this week did not help matters.

Well, another Friday, and another challenge with Sketch Frenzy Friday.  Hope you will be able to join us. Today's sketch is by Deb Currier.

05/03/13 by Deb Currier

I just loved the flower in the middle of the sketch and decided to make a crepe paper flower.  I punched 4 of the flowers with the  Blossom Petal Punch and let them soak in water and Tangerine Tango reinker for about 1/2 hour.  While they were soaking I make the rest of the card.

The base card is Daffodil Delight, layered with Summer Smooches designer paper.  I cut a smaller rectangle of Pacific Point card stock, layered it with Whisper White which I embossed with the Honeycomb folder, and then added to half banners of different designs of the same DSP

The 1 3/4 by 7/8" oval punch was used to create the half ovals near the right bottom of the rectangle. They were attached directly to the DSP layer.

After 1/2 hour, I removed the crepe flowers from the dye mixture and set them on a paper towel to dry.  To speed up the drying time I used the heat gun.  The flowers were then layered with the petals off setting each other, and a Summer Smooches designer brad was inserted in the center.  A bow made of white Baker's twine was adhered to the center of this.  The flower was attached to the panel using a dimensional.

The Pacific Point panel was attached to the DSP using dimensionals.

Here's a summary of the stamp/materials used:

Stamp: Petite Pairs
Ink: Black Stazon, Tangerine Tango reinker
Papers: Daffodil Delight, Pacific Point, Summer Smooches DSP, Whisper White, Crepe Paper
Accessories: Honeycomb folder, Blossom Petal Punch, Summer Smooches designer brad, White Baker's twine, 1 3/4 by 7/8" oval punch, Small oval punch

Dare to Dream - Sketch Frenzy Friday

A lot of flooding has been occuring in this area.  Huntsville and Bracebridge as well as an area south of Lindsay have declared states of emergency. There are reports that the flood waters are heading my way.  I sure hope not as I have been through a flood and it is not pretty! The waters are rising higher than they ever have before and my thoughts are with the individuals involved with this catastrophe.

Today is Friday, and time for another sketch challenge with Sketch Frenzy Friday.  Hope you can join us.
Today's sketch is by Kim Innes.  I must admit this one stumped me for a while, but eventually my brain came up with an idea.

04/26/13 Kim Innis

The Midnight Muse base card is layered first with Whisper White and then with 2 different patterns of paper.  The lower striped paper is from the Print Poetry Designer stack, and the upper pattern is a background that I made using the Primrose Petals ink pad, a water spritzer and some bubble wrap created on Shiny card stock. It is a piece of background  I had left over from Wednesday`s class, so decided to use it on this card.

A strip of Midnight Muse scalloped cardstock was placed across the seam of the 2 papers.

On the top half of the card, I strung a piece of Marina Mist/white Baker`s twine and attached 2 Midnight Muse pennants (both of which were embossed with the Square Lattice folder) - one at either end - and in the middle a tag with a cut out anchor attached to it.
The image of the ship was stamped with Midnight Muse, cut out and attached , with dimensionals, to the left side of the card abutting the scalloped strip.

Here`s a list of the stamps/materials used:

Stamps: The Open Sea, Loving Thoughts
Inks: Midnight Muse
Papers: Midnight Muse, Whisper White, Print Poetry DSP
Accessories: Pennant punch, Small tag punch (retired), Scallop border punch, Marina Mist/white Baker`s twine, Square lattice folder, dimensionals, glue dots.

Get Well Sooner - Sketch Frenzy Friday

I'm typing this first part in smaller font because I don't want to jinx things.  I think----Spring finally has arrived!
I'd love to shout it from the roof times, but the way the season has been going------.
Anyway, today is Friday, and time for another challenge with Sketch Frenzy Friday.  Hope you can join us.
Today's sketch is by Tammy Fife.

04/19/13 Tammy F.

This is a really good sketch to feature designer paper, which is. of course. what I did.  The DSP I used is "Sent with Love".  It just arrived yesterday, and I'm sure you understand the irresistable urge to tear open a new package and have a look at the designs!

The card base is Pool Party, layered with Whisper White card stock.  The next layer consists of 4 patterns of the Sent with Love DSP. A double sided scallop trim of Primrose Petals cut with the Tasteful Trim die was attached across the middle of the card, hiding most of the seams.

The embellishment was made using a white paper daisy with a vanilla fabric flower attached to the center.  To fit the flower in with the color scheme, I coloured the edge of the white daisy with a Primrose Petal marker, and coloured the entire fabric flower with the same marker.  Then I applied some dazzling details to the flower edges and center.

The sentiment is from Sweetly Said, stamped onto Whisper White card stock, and punched with the Decorative Label punch.  The top end was inserted under the double scallop trim.  A row of rhinestones brought some bling to this punchie.

Here's a list of the materials/supplies I used:

Stamps: Sweetly Said
Inks: Black Stazon, Primrose Petals marker
Papers: Pool Party, Whisper White, Sent with Love DSP, Primrose Petals
Accessories: Tasteful Trim die, Decorative Label punch, White paper daisy, Vanilla fabric flower, Dazzling details, rhinestones,

Hope you enjoyed this card.
Thanks for stopping by.

Serene Birthday - Sketch Frenzy Friday

My surgery went well, and I'm so glad it's over with. Some physiotherapy and I'll be as good as new.

Today is Friday and time for the sketch challenge with Sketch Frenzy Friday.  Hope you can join us.
The sketch today is by Sharon Wheet

The base of this A2 card is Primrose Petals card stock, layered with Honeycomb embossed Whisper White card stock.  In the middle of the card, I cut 2 banners of different sizes from Sunshine and Sprinkled DSP - banners instead of arrows.

On a 2 by 2" piece of Whisper White card stock, I created a colourful sky using Pretty in Pink, Daffodil Delight, and Marina Mist ink on sponges.  The image from Serene Silhouettes was stamped over the sky using Black Stazon ink.
Then a 2 1/4 by  2 1/4" piece of Whisper White was cut and a 1 3/4" scallop circle was punched in the middle.
These 2 pieces were adhered together and layered with a piece of  Primrose Petals card stock.
This focal image was attached to the card using dimensionals.
Some rhinestones were placed in each corner of the focal image and a pink stitched ribbon on the top.

Here is a list of the materials/supplies used:

Stamps: Serene Silhouettes, Petite Pairs
Inks: Black Stazon, Pretty in Pink, Daffodil Delight, Marina Mist, Primrose Petals
Papers: Primrose Petals, Whisper White, Sunshine & sprinkles DSP
Accessories: Honeycomb folder, small oval punch (retired), rhinestones, 1/4" Pretty in Pink stitched ribbon, dimensionals, 1 3/4" scallop circle punch.

Swallowtail Friend - Sketch Frenzy Friday

Today is Friday, and as you are reading this I am having more surgery on my left knee.  Nothing major - just a scope, but I've been waiting a long time for this.  I have had nothing but trouble since my knee replacement last March, and I'm hoping the doctors will be able to fix whatever the problem is.

It's also time for Sketch Frenzy Friday.  Today's sketch is by Robbie

04/05/13 Robbie

This A2 card had a Daffodil Delight base, layered with Very Vanilla embossed with the Honeycomb folder.
I next took a piece of Pacific Point stitched ribbon, put it through a ribbon slider, and attached it to the bottom of the embossed Very Vanilla layer.
I then punched a Pacific Point blue 1 3/4" scallop circle, placed a 1 3/8" Daffodil Delight circle on top of that, followed by the sentiment, which was punched with a 1 1/4" circle punch.  Dimensionals were placed between the Daffodil Delight circle and the Scalloped Pacific Point circle.  A butterfly was stamped using the Papillion Potpourri stamp set, punched it out with the small butterfly punch, and attached it to the top of the sentiment.  A string of rhinestones were placed under the sentiment.

The image of the Swallowtail was stamped with black Stazon on Whisper White cardstock, and coloured with markers.  It was then cut out and glued at an angle on top of the embossed Very Vanilla.  The parts of the Swallowtail that extended over the edges of the card were cut off.

Here's a summary of the materials used:

Stamps: Swallowtail, Papillion Potpourri, Friendly Phrases
Inks: Black Stazon, Su markers (So Saffron, Daffodil Delight, Pacific Point, Tangerine Tango, Basic Black, Basic Gray)
Papers: Daffodil Delight, Very Vanilla, Whisper White, Pacific Point
Accessories: Honeycomb folder, 1 3/4" scallop circle punch, 1 3/8" circle punch, 1 1/4" circle punch, 1/4" stitched Pacific Point ribbon, Ribbon slider, Small butterfly punch, rhinestones, dimensionals, glue dots.

Thanks for stopping by.  Have a wonderful day.

Hydrangea Birthday - Sketch Frenzy Friday

The sun has been a bit stronger this week, and the skies were mainly blue - almost spring-like if it weren't for the cool temperatures.  My green thumb is itching to be out in the garden.
Today is Friday, and time for another challenge with Sketch Frenzy Friday.  Today's sketch is by our very talented Patrice.

03/29/13 Patrice

The card base if Primrose Petals layered with  Whisper White  cardstock embossed with the Framed Tulip folder.  The insert layer is Sunshine and Sprinkles DSP.  Somehow I just feel like spring!  A stitched Primrose Petals satin ribbon was attached to the right end of these 2 layers.

The image was stamped on Whisper White cardstock using Black Stazon ink, and coloured using ink pads and an Aqua painter.  Dazzling details were added to the inside of the flowers which had been coloured yellow with a Daffodil delight marker.  A 2 1/2" circle punch cut out the image and then it was trimmed according to the sketch.  Using the circle template, the image circle was pierced around the outer edge.  It was then attached with dimensionals to a 3" circle of Primrose Petals which I also trimmed to match the top circle.  This unit was attached to the DSP with the cut edge abutting the embossed edge.

Three embossed Primrose banners were adhered to the left edge of the card, and large rhinestones attached to them.

The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes, punched out with the Word Window Punch, and layered with a Primrose Petals Word Label punchie.

Here's a summary of the supplies/materials used:

Stamps: Best of Flowers, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Inks: Black Stazon, Pink Pirouette, Primrose Petals, Raspberry Ripple, Certainly Celery, Old Olive
Papers: Primrose Petals, Whisper White, Sunshine & Sprinkles DSP
Accessories: Framed Tulip folder, Square Lattice folder, 2 1/2" circle punch, 3" circle die, mat pack & paper piercer, Word Label punch, Modern Word Label punch, 1/4" stitched Primrose Pink satin ribbon, large rhinestones, rhinestones, dazzling details, dimensionals.

Hope you enjoyed the card.  Thanks for visiting.

Madison Avenue Friend - Sketch Frenzy Friday

Sigh!!! Today is Friday, and not only is it time for Sketch Frenzy Friday, it is also the last day of Sale-a-bration Enjoy the last card using the Sale-a-bration products for tomorrow it's on to different things.
Today's sketch is mine.

03/22/13 Maria Vanderform

The base card is Island Indigo, layered with  Honeycomb embossed Whisper White.

Did any of you notice that this particular embossing folder tends to cut through the card stock?  To prevent this, place a piece of either vellum cardstock or a piece of scrap cardstock the size of the folder on top of the paper being embossed and then run it through the Big shot.  Works every time!

The image panel was turned on its side to accommodate the image, which is from the Madison Avenue stamp set. The leaves were stamped with Old Olive ink, and the Tangerine Tango flower was added using the stamp-a-ma-jig as a guide.  I'm afraid I still need some practice using that tool as the flower is not quite straight. A Tangerine Tango button was placed in the middle of the flower and then a rhinestone.  This Whisper White panel was matted with Island Indigo and attached to the card using dimensionals.

The Sycamore Street designer paper is also matted with Island Indigo.  A piece of Tangerine Tango ribbon was placed near the bottom  and it was then attached to the right side of the card.

Sentiment is from Teeny Tiny images and is stamped using Island Indigo ink.

Here's the list of the materials I used:

Stamps: Madison Avenue, Teeny Tiny wishes
Inks: Island Indigo, Old Olive, Tangerine Tango
Papers: Island Indigo, Whisper White, Sycamore Street DSP
Accessories: Honeycomb folder, rhinestones, Word Window punch, Modern Word Label Punch, 1/4" Tangerine Tango satin ribbon, Tangerine Tango button, stamp-a-ma-jig, dimensionals, glue dots.

By the Tide Happy Birthday - Sketch Frenzy Friday

I don't know how I ended up making a masculine card for the Sketch Frenzy Friday design team this week.  After all, the sample sketch has a flower on it!  But when I saw the sketch, I saw a fish!  No, I don't think I'm touched in the head ---- yet!
As you guessed, it's Friday, and time for Sketch Frenzy Friday.  Today's sketch is by Jennifer Weide.

03/15/13 Jennifer
I turned the sketch on its side to make my card.
I started out by sponging a piece of Whisper White card stock first around the outside edges with Pacific Point, then Marina Mist, and on the inmost side Baja Breeze.  The images of the Sea Horse and the Sea Weed were stamped along the bottom using Midnight Muse ink.
The fish image was stamped on a separate piece of paper, cut out, and attached to the card at the lower right side.
Instead of a ribbon, I die cut a bescalloped strip using the Tasteful trim die, and substituted the knot with a silver pop top cap that I flattened using the Big Shot.  The sentiment was stamped, punched out with a 1" circle punch and placed in the Pop top.
Here's a list of the supplies:

Stamps:  By the Tide, Petite Paire
Inks: Pacific Point, Marina Mist, Baja Breeze, Midnight Muse
Papers: Midnight Muse, Whisper White
Accessories: Tasteful Trim die, Silver Pop Top cap, 1" circle punch, dimensionals

Thanks - Sketch Frenzy Friday

Spring is less than 2 weeks away!  WooHoo!!!  I think I've had enough of winter!
Today is Friday, and time for the sketch challenge with Sketch Frenzy Friday.  Hope you can take the time to join us.
The sketch is by Deb Currier - a unique one that's for sure.

03/08/13 Deb Currier

Stamps:  Vintage Verses (SAB), From My Heart (Inside)
Inks: Tangerine Tango, Pool Party, and Island Indigo SU markers
Papers: Tangerine Tango base, Crumb Cake layer, Sycamore Street DSP for the strips, Whisper White
Accessories: Labels framelits, 5/8" Flower trim colored with Pool Party marker, large rhinestones, dimensionals, Polka dot folder

To make the sentiment focal image, two labels framelits were die cut - one in Tangerine Tango, and one in Whisper White.  The sentiment was stamped in the middle of the Whisper White one, and the Tangerine Tango was cut into 3 pieces - top, bottom, and middle.  The middle piece was thrown away, and the top and bottom pieces were attached to the whisper White piece, leaving only the sentiment exposed.

Bordering on Romance - Thanks - Sketch Frenzy Friday

February is gone.  Today is the first day of March and it came in like a lamb.  It's been a horrible week weather wise - snow, then rain, cold then not.  Honestly, its been a flip flop winter!  I'll be happy to see Spring. Because it's Friday, its time for Sketch Frenzy Friday.  Hope you can join in the challenge of today's sketch which is by Tammy Fife.
I made some liberties with the sketch- turned it and made the squares a little bigger.  I also placed the sentiment above the focal image as it just looked better (for my card anyway)
I showed the card to my son and he says it reminds him of Spring.

03/01/13 Tammy F.

Stamps: Bordering on Romance, A Word for You
Inks:  Black Stazon, Watercolor crayons
Papers: Calypso Coral, Whisper White, Tea for Two DSP
Accessories: Aqua Painter, Dazzling details, Small butterfly punch, rhinestones, 1/4" white stitched ribbon

Best wishes - Wax Paper Resist - Sketch Frenzy Friday

Time for another challenge with Sketch Frenzy Friday.
Today I tried a technique I have never tried before - wax paper resist using an embossing folder.  The technique will be explained at the end of the post.
Today's sketch is by Robbie, a sketch that provided me with a bit of a challenge.

2/15/13 Robbie

I placed the image on its side to accommodate the vertical design of the Vine folder.

Stamps:  Madison Avenue (SAB), Petite Pairs
Inks: Gumball Green, Tangerine Tango, Island Indigo, Summer Starfruit, Baja Breeze
Papers: Island Indigo, Whisper White, Sycamore Street DSP (SAB)
Accessories: Floral Frames framelits, 2 1/2" circle punch, 1 3/4" circle punch, 1/4" Tangerine Tango satin ribbon (SAB), dimensionals, rhinestone, Vine folder

Here's how the background was created:
1.  Cut a piece of wax paper 1" larger than the embossing folder to be used
2.  Place the wax paper in the embossing folder and run through the Big Shot
3.  Lay the embossed wax paper on a heat resistant surface.
4.  Place a piece of Whisper White card stock on top of the wax paper
5.  Place a protective piece of photocopy paper on top of this
6.  Place an iron on the cotton setting, and run the heated iron making sure the entire surface of the Whisper White cardstock has been ironed.

Now take the Whisper White cardstock that has been next to the wax paper and apply ink to the surface.  The wax paper that has been ironed on it will resist the ink and you will see the pattern of the embossing folder emerging.  In my sample I used various colors of ink to coordinate with the color of the designer paper.

After completing the background, the second smallest floral framelet was used to cut a floral shape.
Then, taking a piece of Island Indigo card stock, a 1 3/4" circle was punched near the middle, and a 2 1/2" circle was punched around it (make sure all sides are even).  The resultant punched out circle was attached to the wrong side of the embossed/inked paper around the floral shape.  I used tombo glue.

On a separate piece of Whisper White cardstock, stamp the leaves of the Madison Ave stamp in Gumball Green, leaving space above it for the flower.  On a scrap piece of Whisper White, stamp the flower in Tangerine Tango and die cut using the smallest of the Floral framelit.  Then attach it above the leaves and stem with a dimensionals.  The center of the flower was stamped with Island Indigo and punched out with a 3/4" circle punch and attached to the center of the flower with a dimensionald.  A rhinestone in the middle completed the flower.
This piece of Whisper White was centered in the cut out Floral shape and attached with tombo

Collage Curios - Sketch Frenzy Friday

Well my crafty friends-- It's Friday again, and also a day for another snow storm .  We're expecting up to 30cm of the white stuff - that's the most snow in one dumping in about 5 years.  I guess my son will be busy with the shovel, but perhaps my neighbour will help out with the snow blower.

This is my card for Sketch Frenzy Friday this week.  It is based on a sketch done by our very talented  Patrice Herrerra. The sketch was a lot of fun, and perfect for some of the smaller stamps we have now.

Most of the images were colored with SU markers directly onto the stamps, punched out with the l" circle punch, layered with cardstock punched with the 1" square punch, and finally with the postage stamp punch.  It was kind of fun doing all that layering as I loved the look it gave to the card.

Stamps:  Collage Curios, Just for You
Inks: Black Stazon, SU markers, Gumball Green
Papers: Calypso Coral, Whisper White, Tea for Two DSP, Gumball Green
Accessories: 1" circle punch, 1" square punch, Postage stamp punch, 1 3/4 by 7/8" oval punch, Scallop oval punch, Ruffled calypso coral ribbon, dimensionals

Hope you can join us at SFF this week. I'd love to see what you do with the sketch. When you have finished your creation don't forget to use the linky to upload it to the SFF blog home page.
