Grantsville 12 Tooele 3

The Cowboys didn't disappoint the hometown fans as they jumped out in front of Tooele and never looked back.


Ky Fisher got the Cowboys on the board quickly with a 2-run HR in the first inning. The scoring continued in the first as Quinton Smith and Landon Hammond contributed run scoring singles and Dallin Williams had a 2-run double. Kelby Landon ended the scoring in the first with a run scoring... single to spot the Cowboys a 7-0 lead.

Nick Arbon would drive in a run in the 2nd inning to push the lead to 8-0. Tooele would push across 1 run in the 5th but Landon got that run back with one swing of the bat with a solo HR.

Grantsville would tack on 3 more runs in the 6th as Wyatt Barrus drove in 2 runs with a single and Hammond drove in another run on a run scoring single to give the Cowboys their final margin of victory 12-3.

Braydon Hamatake got the start on the mound to pick up the win.

The Cowboys honored 6 seniors on Senior Day as Kelby Landon, Skyler Cloward, Landon Hammond, Quinto Smith, Braydon Hamatake, and Quinton Smith played their final home game.

Next up will be a diamond battle with the other cross county rival on Thursday. First pitch is set for 3:30.

SENIOR DAY 2013

Today will be senior day at the ballpark in Grantsville as the baseball playin Cowboys take on cross county rival the Tooele Buffaloes. Game time is 3:30.

Come on out and show your support as we pay tribute to the seniors off the 2013 team. They will all be in the starting lineup today.

Grantsville 24 Ben Lomond 0

The Cowboys dominated the Scots in Region 11 baseball action 24-0.

Skyler Cloward and Landon Hammond combined to throw a no-hitter striking out 11 and walking 1.

Eleven players had hits including every starter, while 14 players scored runs for Grantsville. Wyatt Barrus, Braydon Hamatake, Quinton Smith, Nick Arbon, & Wyatt Smith all had doubles while Kelby Landon and Ky Fisher each rapped out a triple. The Cowboys had 22 hits on the day.

Next up will be a key Region 11 battle as the Cowboys travel to Garland to take on the Bear River Bears on Tuesday.  First pitch is 3:30

Grantsville 10 Ogden o

The baseball playin Cowboys bounced back to pick up a big Region 11 win over Ogden 10-0.


Skyler Cloward got the start on the mound and was locked in a pitchers duel until the Cowboys exploded for 10 runs in the 5th to end the game due to the mercy rule. Cloward struck out 6 while allowing no hits to pick up the win.

Manny Begay & Quinton Smith got things going for Grantsville ...in their half of the 5th with back to back singles. They would both come around to score on an Ogden error. Dallin Williams then lifted a sacrifice fly to plate another run while Kelby Landon ripped an RBI single. Ky Fisher and Cloward both blasted run scoring doubles while Wyatt Barrus added an RBI single. Nick Arbon drove in 2 runs with a single and would score the 10th run on a wild pitch to end the game.

Next up will be a trip to Morgan to take on the Trojans on Tuesday April 16. Game time is 3:30.

STANSBURY 9 GRANTSVILLE 6 (11 innings)

The Cowboys dropped a heart breaker to rival Stansbury in Region 11 baseball action 9-6 in 11 innings.

Grantsville was able to jump out to an early 2-0 lead on a 2-run single by Manny Begay in the first inning. The Stallions trimmed the lead to 2-1 with a run in the 2nd and tied the game at 2 in the top of the 3rd. Grantsville didn't take long regaining the lead as Quinton Smith drove in 2 runs with a single.

The Cowboys would extend the lead to 5-2 on an RBI single by Kelby Landon in the 4th and then 6-2 on another RBI single by Smith.

Stansbury came storming back in the 6th to tie the game with 4 runs. The two teams battled scoreless from that point on until the Stallions scored 3 runs in the top of the 11th. Grantsville was able to bring the tying run to the plate in the bottom half but a strike out ended the game.

Next up will be another key Region 11 game as the Ogden Tigers come to town on Thursday. First pitch is set for 3:30.

Grantsville 9 Highland 2

The Cowboys were able to salvage a split on the day as they topped the Rams 9-2 in the final game of the day.


Wyatt Barrus got the start and threw a 3-hitter to pick up the victory.

Nick Arbon led the Cowboys offensively with a pair of hits including an RBI-double.

Grantsville will resume Region 11 play next week as they face the Stansbury Stallions on Tuesday and then the Ogden Tigers on Thursday. Both games are in Grantsville and are set to begin at 3:30.

Davis 17 Grantsville 11

The Cowboys couldn't keep up with the Darts in a slugfest as Davis got the win 17-11.


Grantsville rapped out 16 hits in the contest, led by Kelby Landon with 3 safeties including a 2-run HR. Wyatt Barrus also had 3 singles. Nick Arbon, Landon Hammond, Manny Begay, & Dallin Williams each had a pair of hits.

Grantsville 13 Tooele 4

The Cowboys travelled 9 miles east to take on cross county rival the Tooele Buffaloes on the diamond in a key Region 11 baseball game. Grantsville scored in every inning but the first to defeat the Buffaloes 13-4 to improve their Region 11 record to 4-1.


Landon Hammond got the start and the complete game victory on the mound to improve his record to 6-0 on the season.

Offensively the Cowboys rapped out 15 hits on the day. They were led by Dallin Williams who was a perfect 3 for 3 on the day including a towering home run to lead off the 6th inning. Kelby Landon also had 3 hits including a double. Quinton Smith and Ky Fisher each contributed 2 hits and 2 rbi's while Hammond helped his own cause with 2 hits.

Next up for Grantsville will be games on Saturday vs the class 5A Davis Darts who own a 9-1 record at 10:00 AM on Saturday. They will also take on Class 4A Highland Rams at 3:00 PM. The Darts and Rams will also hook up in Grantsville in a 12:30 game. Come on out and spend a Saturday enjoying some High School baseball action.

Grantsville 2 Hunter 0

Grantsville took a break from Region play as they travelled to West Valley to take on the Class 5A Hunter Wolverines.

Braydon Hamatake got the start on the mound and was nothing less than sensational. He went 7 innings giving up 1 hit, an infield single, while striking out 5 to post the shut out victory.

The Cowboys got all the runs they would need in the 2nd inning when Wyatt Barrus reached on an error and Nick Arbon scored him on a ground ball. They added an insurance run in the 5th as Ky Fisher blasted a lead off double and scored on a Landon Hammond single.

Grantsville will resume Region 11 action on Wednesday as they travel to take on county rival the Tooele Buffaloes. Game time is 3:30.

Grantsville 6 Bear River 5

In a key Region 11 match up the Cowboys were able to pull off a 6-5 victory over the visiting Bear River Bears. The game went back and forth as neither team seemed to be able to control of the game. In the end it was Grantsville that came out on top thanks to Kelby Landon's 2-run single in the sixth inning. Landon Hammond came on in relief to pick up the win.

Next up will be a make up game vs the class 5A Hunter Wolverines. The game is set for Monday in West Valley City. First pitch is 3:30.

Grantsville 14 Ben Lomond 0

The Cowboys beat the Scots on Tuesday 14-0

Skyler Cloward threw a 1-hitter in the complete game victory.

Offensively Landon Hammond had a huge game going 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and a triple while driving in 3 runs. Kelby Landon had the biggest hit of the day hitting a grand slam in the first inning

GRANTSVILLE 5 MORGAN 2

The Cowboys got a much needed win as they downed arch rival Morgan in a key Region 11 diamond match up. Grantsville struck first as Kelby Landon walked. He moved to 2nd on a passed ball and to 3rd on a Quinton Smith single. Skyler Cloward then lifted a deep fly ball to score Landon. Morgan would tie it in the 4th but the Cowboys didn't wait long retaking the lead in the bottom half. Cloward and Manny Begay both had RBI singles in the inning. They would put up a single run in both the 5th & 6th. Wyatt Smith had a lead off double in the 5th and scored on a Kelby Landon double. In the 6th Manny Begay scored on an overthrow.


Landon Hammond got the start and went the distance to pick up the win. He allowed 4 hits allowing 2 runs on 4 hits striking out 5.

Next up will be a test against the class 5A Hunter Wolverines. The game is scheduled for Friday at Hunter. The Cowboys will resume Region 11 action next week with key games against Ben Lomond on Tuesday and Bear River at home on Friday.

GAME CHANGES

Due to weather some changes have been made to today's schedule. They are as follows:

Freshman games have been cancelled. They will be rescheduled at a later date. Once finalized they will be posted.

The Varsity game will now be played in Grantsville today starting at 3:30. The JV game will follow.

OGDEN 6 GRANTSVILLE 4

The Ogden Tigers spoiled the Region 11 opener for the Cowboys by taking a 6-4 victory. The Tigers didn't waste any time as they took a quick 3-0 lead after the first inning. The Cowboys answered back to tie the game in the 2nd aided by a Ky Fisher double and a Landon Hammond 2 run triple. Ogden responded right back to take a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the 2nd. Wyatt Barrus came in to shut down the Tiger offense the rest of the way but Grantsville could only muster 1 more run. They had multiple chances to change the outcome, leaving 8 runners on base in the last 3 innings.

Next up will be a trip to Morgan on Thursday to take on the rival Trojans in another key Region 11 match up. First pitch is set for 3:30. They will also be in action on Friday as they travel to face the Hunter Wolverines.

TIGER/PANTHER INVITATIONAL

The Cowboys completed a successful trip down south as they placed 2nd in the tournament. Here's a quick recap of the 4 games?

Grantsville 10 Delta 2
In a rematch of an earlier game the Cowboys again defeated Delta. Grantsville got out to an early lead to defeat the Rabbits. Dillon Hutchins picked up the win on the mound with Manny Begay closing out the game with a scoreless 6th. Ky Fisher had an inside the park home run while Kelby Landon had 3 hits on the day including a triple.

Grantsville 10 Hurricane 5
In the nightcap Friday night the Cowboys defeated the co-host Tigers. Hurricane struck first by scoring twice in the top of the first but Grantsville answered right back with 3 runs in the bottom half aided by a Hurricane error. Braydon Hamatake got the start with Landon Hammond coming on in relief to pick up the win.

Grantsville 5 Union 0
In a quick turnaround Grantsville took care of the Cougars in the early morning game. Wyatt Barrus went the distance throwing a 2 hitter while striking out 9 in the victory.

Park City 10 Grantsville 3
The Cowboys got off to a rough start in the championship game as they spotted the Miners a 7-0 lead after 2 innings. It proved too much to overcome as Grantsville had to settle for 2nd place. Kelby Landon's bat stayed hot as he posted another double and triple in the contest.

The Cowboys begin league play on Tuesday as they travel to Ogden to face the Tigers and they begin their quest for a Region 11 Title. Game time is set for 3:30 at Ogden HS.

Grantsville 4 Maple Mountain 1

Grantsville defeated the visiting Maple Mountain Golden Eagles on Tuesday 4-1 led by a dominant pitching performance by Landon Hammond.

Hammond shut down a solid Eagles line up going all 7 innings allowing 1 run on 5 hits 1 walk while striking out 4. He had the MM hitters baffled all day.

Trailing 1-0, the Cowboys got on the board in the bottom of the 4th to score all the runs they'd need. Kelby Landon got things started with a lead off double. Quinton Smith followed that with a single. Skyler Cloward and Manny Begay immediately followed that up with RBI singles. After an out was recorded, Ky Fisher and Nick Arbon both rapped out RBI singles to give Grantsville all the runs they'd need.

The Cowboys will travel to St. George this weekend for 4 games as they take part in the Tiger/Panther Classic. They will face Delta at 1:00 at Hurricane HS followed by a 7:00 game vs Hurricane. On Saturday they face Union at 9:00. A second game will be played at 3:00 or 6:00. The time and opponent will be determined following the completion of pool play.

Grantsville 8 Delta 2

Grantsville defeated the Delta Rabbits 8-2 in Delta.

The Rabbits scored first taking a 1-0 lead on a run scoring double. The lead held up until the 5th when Dallin Williams tied the game with an RBI single. The Cowboys rallied for 3 runs in the 6th as Braydon Hamatake hit a bases loaded double to drive in 3 runs giving Grantsville a 4-1 lead. Delta tallied 1 run in the bottom of the 6th but Grantsville got that one back and more in the 7th. The big blast was a 3-run HR off the bat of Skyler Cloward. Nick Arbon added a run scoring single in the inning as well giving the Cowboys all the scoring they would need.

Wyatt Barrus went 6 innings on the hill giving up 6 hits while striking out 7 and allowing 1 walk to pick up the win. Cloward came in to pitch a scoreless 7th.

Grantsville will take on the #1 ranked Maple Mountain Golden Eagles at Cowboy Field on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 3:00. Come on out and support your baseball playing Cowboys and take in some good baseball action.

Grantsville 7 Park City 3

The Cowboys posted a season opening victory over the Park City Miners 7-3.

The Cowboys scored their first run of the season in the bottom half of the 1st inning when Manny Begay belted a single to score Quinton Smith.

In the 5th Grantsville broke a 1-1 tie when Skyler Cloward blasted a 2-run double scoring Kelby Landon and Smith. After Park City tied the game again at 3-3 the Cowboys exploded for 4 runs in the bottom half of the sixth. Landon provided the big blow in the inning with a double down the left field line to score Wyatt Smith & Dallin Williams. Landon scored on a balk and then Wyatt Barrus came thru with a key 2-out RBI single to score pinch runner Clay Matthews.

Braydon Hamatake got the opening day nod on the bump for Grantsville. He went 4 innings giving up 3 hits, walking 2, and striking out 4. He gave way to Landon Hammond who went the rest of the way to pick up the win.

The Cowboys will be back in action on Friday as they travel to Delta for another preseason tilt on the diamond. Game time is set for 3:30.

Let The Season Begin

The field is clear and almost ready to go. Still a little wet but it's starting to look like a baseball field again. The first game will have to be pushed off until Wednesday March 6. We are looking forward to an exciting year. Come on out to the ballpark and support your local baseball playing Cowboys. See you there.

2013 SCHEDULES

The schedules are now posted on the right side of the blog. The varsity schedule is completed. We are still looking to add a JV game and a couple more Fresh/Soph games. As they are scheduled they will be posted.

A couple notes for the season:
  • We are going to St George again. It will be the weekend after we have normally gone (March 15-16). We will also play a sophomore game in Cedar City on Thursday the 14th. The team will be staying in Cedar City this year since we couldn't get enough rooms in St George. If you are planning on going, get your rooms now.
  • Spring break is the week of April 1-5. We will continue to play games during the week with all 3 teams playing on Wednesday & the varsity playing on Saturday.
We will begin our winter workouts starting on Wednesday January 2nd at 7:00 PM
