Colors In the Garden

It's time to water the garden...again!

I've been trying to keep keep the hydrangea bushes watered to keep the flowers from turning brown. With temps in the high 90's to 103 this has proved to be quite a chore.

I have a friend whose granddaughter is getting married in two weeks and she wants to use the hydrangeas for the wedding.  The flowers have already started turning their fall colors.  The blooms opened early this year and started to turn quickly due to the heat of the past few weeks. But they will still be beautiful as long as I keep them watered.

Over the years several brides have had hydrangeas from my garden at their weddings.
We used many at daughter Meagan's wedding to her darling husband.
The blooms were lovely shades of green and burgundy.

Hopefully I can soak the bushes enough every day to keep them beautiful for the upcoming wedding of my friend Shar's granddaughter.  The heat is suppose to break tomorrow.

Lovelies...

I ran out and cut several hydrangeas this morning to bring some of these lovely shades of pink, purple, blue and white into the house.  Every time I run past this jar filled with blooms, it makes me smile.

I think I should probably take another jar filled with these beauties and sit them somewhere in the studio.  I've been busy with orders, working on new designs and am spending alot of time there.  The studio looks like there was an explosion... I need to take some time to reorganize how I store stencils and go through the hundreds of bottles of paints and toss the colors I never use and get the rest in some order according to colors. This needs to be done before I can even start getting ready for the Christmas season .

This is all very hard to think about on a beautiful day like today, however bringing some lovelies into the studio might just help.

Finally...At Last

Here it is, the end of May, and I'm finally getting annuals planted. I've been reading the blogs of other gardeners and am really feeling behind. Last year I was early getting the gardens ready as I had the two showers, one baby one bridal, in the back yard in June. This year however, whenever I had a day to spare from orders and working on the new website, it was rainy or we had family celebrations. My rows of hydrangeas really take care of themselves and I take my cue from them as to the colors I will be adding in pots and in various locations around the garden. So many of the perennials have spread and are needing to be separated and then I must find new homes for them...whether that be here in my yard or given to family and friends.

So the backyard has been taken care of for now and I need to get the front of the house planted before it gets too hot today. I am sitting on the porch on the side of the house, which we opened up yesterday, with my second cuppa coffee and the laptop writing this post and am truly content being here among the blues, pinks and lavenders, watching the birds at the feeder. The black and white cat who travels through the yard every morning and evening stopped by to also watch the birds at the feeder. You can hear that the cat is near before you can see him as the birds send out their very loud warnings to each other.
Glad Lucy wanted to go inside to be with her Dad before the cat made his rounds. I would have been quite a sight in my Mickey Mouse pajamas running after her through the neighbors yards as she ran after the cat.

Wishing all a Beautiful Day.

A Homemade Wedding Part 2

After the tables were set...the centerpieces were put together.
The hydrangeas from my garden were assembled with curly willow branches in jars.

Center piece on the Bridal Table with the crystal wine glasses.

Flowerpots and Candles outside of the barn door.
Thank goodness I was able to keep them alive all summer.
On Thursday morning I did notice some empty spots in the pots
so I dug up some plants out of the garden to fill in the spots

We had to pop the tents outside the door on Saturday morning...the day of the Wedding...
because there were showers and rain coming our way.
We had many comments about rain on your Wedding Day being a
blessing. If that's the case...the couple are really and truly blessed.

A Mickey Mophead

In an earlier post I had photos of some of the Mickey Mouse items I have in my garden...Imagine my surprise when this mophead hydrangea opened and it was a Mickey head.

Porch Sittin'

I painted this new sign to welcome friends and family
to "Come Sit On My Porch".
The porch is located on the side of the house and I sit in the morning with my coffee watching over the changes that take place everyday in the garden and saying hello to the visiting birds who make a stop at the feeder or the birdbath.

The hydrangeas are starting to open and the colors change all summer long.

I found some interesting plants to fill the large pot at the corner of the patio. I love the lime green of the sweet potato vine. The purple plant is a summer snapdragon, the pink is New Guinea impatien and the white flower I can't remember but I thought it had such a wonderful texture.
