Let it Snow by Sarah Allan

Hi Everyone!

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and it is great to be back here on the blog with my last design Team project for 2017... before we head into 2018 with more fun projects using Colourcraft's fabulous products.

My project for you today is a wooden winter photo frame, I have given it a new lease of life with acrylic sprays and some of the fabulous aztec metallics pearl paint

Step 1
I used a bare wood photo frame with stand, some chipboard flourishes and wooden letters

Step 2
Placement of the flourishes and "snow" letters

Step 3
I applied a coat of white gesso to every surface, front, back and sides of the frame and stand

Step 4
glue down the letters and flourishes with matte medium and paint over with white gesso

Step 5
Place some kitchen paper down on your work surface before applying acrylic sprays, I used Turquoise and sea green for my project

Step 6
Dry your frame with a heat tool and also remember to spray the stand too!

Step 7

Your project is now ready to have some fabulous aztec metallic pearl paint dry brushed over the lettering and flourishes to add the finishing touch to your project and accent/highlight the frame

I hope you enjoyed today's project, I wish you all health and happiness for the new year and look forward to being back in 2018 with more fun stuff :)

Canvas Art With Brusho Crystal Powders

Hello all

I am going to teach you how to create this mixed media canvas using Brusho Crystal Powders.

Start off by applying gesso to the blank canvas and then gather a thick blob of modeling paste on the end of a pallet knife. Apply the blobs of modeling paste to the canvas spreading it thickly in the desired place.

Sprinkle glass glitter and various art stones over the modeling paste and pat down carefully with a palette knife. allow the modeling paste to set a bit before sprinkling  Turquoise and Purple over the background. Apply water over the powders and use a brush to control the flow of colour.

Paint a wooden frame with gesso and then gold Aztec Eco Metallic Luster. The wings and face and made by squashing paper clay into a silicone mold. It takes about a day for them to set but the clay is firm enough to pop out of the mold so you can make a batch up. Paint everything in gold and allow to dry.

Glue the wings and face onto the frame and then glue a second pair of wings to the side of the frame. Add clusters of flowers and metal charms across the canvas and add a title to finish

Thank you for visiting.

Christmas gift tag by Terri Koszler

I don't know about you but I am so excited for Christmas, I can not wait.  I still have to wrap the presents and thats what has inspired me to create today's project.

I am going to make a personalised Christmas tag for my husband using a few products in my crafty stash.

I start by covering a piece of white hammered card with copper Metallic paint, I also colour a little wooden snow flake too.

I then embossed a Kraft card tag and die cut my husbands initials from the copper paper made in the previous step. I also cut two more sets from black card as I will layer them together to make faux chipboard letters.

I added some ink to my tag using a blending tool and then applied a layer of EXpandit to the bottom of the tag and heated it with my heat tool. This gives the look of snow.

I added my letters and snow flake to the tag along with some twine and bells.

I love how this tag has come together, now I just need to make several more.

I hope you're prepared for the big day and have a wonderful time.

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate, I will be back in the new year.

Stag by Rebecca Yoxall

Holidays are upon us
HO HO HO
Hope you're having a great Friday.

I have chosen to paint one of my favourite subjects for my final post in December. The majestic stag. In the UK 6 species of deer can be found. All male deer/stags grow antlers, which are bony structures completely unique to deer species. They grow during spring and summer then generally are shed the following spring and re grow bigger each year :-)
I have chosen to paint my stag using Brusho and I hope you like him.

I drew out my image in pencil on high quality watercolour paper and then went over it with a permanent ink black pen.

I sprayed the paper with water into which I sprinkled a dark brown brusho

with a little more water added I was able to add Ultramarine brusho to the paper also.

I gave this a little time to settle and sprayed a bit more water again to allow the colours to dilute and spread evenly. Then I took a brush and using the brown brusho painted in the body of the stag , the darker patch on the face and the tops of the ears. The antlers were painted in with a mix of the brown and ultramarine brusho

I continued to add more colour using a small amount of black mixed in with the brown to create some shading.

I allowed this to dry. Then using a small amount of white gesso I painted in the lighter parts of the face, nose and chin. Also bits in the ears and streaks to emphasise the animals neck.

I love how the background drifts away giving the illusion of space without having to paint in a complex image. This is Brusho at its finest. It demonstrates the wonderful expressive quality of the medium and how easy it is to work with.

Wishing you all a fantastic festive season and I'll be back in the new year.

Shining canvas by Kate

Hi,

I hope you are having great days, these last days before Christmas. I am from Czech Republic and we are having slightly different Christmas than you. Before I will show my canvas I would like to share with you some interesting info about our Christmas in my country. I hope you will like it. If you are not interest just skip text straight to my todays inspiration.

The main day is 24.12. We do not have any fancy big lunch, just some easy lentil or bean soup and some mushrooms for the main dish – I cannot translate its name – Houbový Kuba –  but it is baked – mushrooms and groats and bacon, really tradition food (honestly not my favorite). There is a funny tradition – if you want to see golden pig, you are not allowed to eat till 6pm any kind of meat. Golden pig is just small magic light, usually parents make it with candle and some gold Christmas decoration.
In my family we are decorating tree 24.12., not earlier. So during morning I decorate tree with my son Toby and hubby is helping me in kitchen (he loves to cook). During the day we are watching fairy tales on TV or going for walk to see neighbors and we are enjoying day. Main is to be with family, no rush, no work, just us.
Around 6pm is time for main dinner – absolutely traditional food is potato salad (baked potatoes, mayonnaise, onion, pickled vegetable – cucumber, carrot, root celery, pepper, salt, and I am using yogurt too – every family has their own recipe, some use also baked eggs and mustard etc.  )  with fried fish – carp. And before it some families make fish soup (also from carp). We are than eating Christmas cookies. After dinner there is time for presents. We do not have any Santa Claus, we have magic person called Ježíšek (something like tiny Jesus) and he is secretly coming during dinner and bringing presents. Usually my hubby makes Ježíšek and I am trying to play with Toby. Children believe in Ježíšek quite long, till 8 years (when families are trying to make children believe, you know as by you with Santa, small children believe big not any more).
So we are opening presents 24.12. in the evening, 25.12. and 26.12. are holidays, we are going for visits, to see family, we are resting and of course eating too much :D. And that is all.
And here is my inspiration I made small canvas with minimum of material. I just die cut stars from watercolour heavy weight paper  (Sizzix dies) and I glued them onto canvas. Than I played with art stones and micro beads and glue gun. When everything was dry I painted it with white gesso to prepare surface for colouring. It is always better when your background has got the same colour. For Colouring I used Aztec Eco Mettalic Lustre paints and Brusho Acrylic Sprays - Shimmering gold and copper. It is lovely shining canvas but as usually with shining bright metallic colours it is so hard to take nice photo, so I made many photos just to show you that shining effect. Sentiment is chipboard which I found in my stash.
