Hot Dog Roast

We had our first hot dog roast of the season a couple of weeks ago. It was perfect weather, other than getting a couple of drops of rain. We invited our friends over to enjoy it with us. Couple of things we learned...You cannot use old Christmas chocolate for s'mores nor should you use stale graham crackers. The adults were not pleased but the kids could care less!

Both girls were so sticky! Anna had it all through her hair. I'm thinking that once ballet is done for the summer my two little princesses are getting their hair cut!
Afterwards, when it started pouring, the adults came in and played games while the kids enjoyed popcorn and a movie. It was a lot of fun and we are looking forward to doing it again soon!

Mother's Day

Mother's Day. I remember it being such a painful day years ago. Oh, how I longed to be a mother. Every mother's day was a painful reminder of what I wasn't able to have. I wanted to have my children up there singing songs to me at church. Oh, how I hated mother's day. Those were the  thoughts that were running through my mind when I awoke to my two beautiful girls shouting "Happy Mother's Day!". I am so grateful to be a mother; not only to my three beautiful children here on earth, but to my beautiful guardian angels up above. I love being a mother. It is a hard job, one that challenges me daily. But it is so worth it when I get those wonderful kisses from my girls and that sweet smile from my boy.

I had a wonderful day. Rob let me sleep in and "tried" to keep the girls quiet. He also made me breakfast and brought me flowers, which he said he would never do since the prices for flowers increase around mother's day. Church was wonderful. My two girls got up and sang to me. We got roses and chocolates from the Priesthood and then the Relief Society served us lunch. After church we went to a friends house where we had a steak dinner, prepared by the men.
A huge thank you to my wonderful family for making my day special!

My Birthday

I was incredibly spoiled on my birthday this year. I received many phone calls, texts and face book messages. Rob and the girls did a great job. He bought me the greatest cake; an ice cream cake from Graters. He even put trick candles on it, which the girls thought were hilarious!

My mom has a tradition of bringing me balloons every year. Rob knew that I missed it so he brought me a bunch of balloons. He really is the best!

Derby Party

We were invited to our friends Derby Party. It was a lot of fun! The girls didn't stop talking about it for the rest of the night. First thing on the agenda was face painting.

Then horseback riding.

Topped off with a trip down the inflatable water slide.

Then we all crammed into their house (good thing it was huge) to watch the game. Sadly, our house did not win. "I'll Have Another" took first place.

The girls got to enjoy one more thing...Hay Ride! They had a great time.

Thanks Apontes! It was a so much fun!

Helping Dad

Spencer got to help Daddy mow the lawn today. He loved it! Little does he know that it will be his job in about eight or nine years!

Derby Parade

A couple of weeks ago Anna came home with an assignment. The Kindergartner's and First Graders were to be in a parade at school and they had to design a float, a hat or a horse. Anna wanted both a hat and a float. This is what we came up with. It ended up being more of an assignment for me than it was for her. But she liked it and that's all that matters!

Parade Preview

Derby is in full swing around here. I never realized how big of a thing it was until I moved out here. They celebrate for two weeks for a two minute race.
We decided to take the kids to at least one of the events. We chose the parade preview. They have a parade called the Pegasus Parade that I would compare to the Days of '47 parade. A couple of days before they let the public in to look at the floats and the inflatables. The girls had a lot of fun and they best part is that we didn't have to fight traffic or the heat to watch the parade. We saw all of the floats up close.

2 Months!

Hard to believe that my little guy is two months. Well, I guess I shouldn't say little. He is currently 14.5 lbs and 23 1/2 inches long. No wonder he eats all of the time! It's a good thing he is cute since he still doesn't sleep through the night...Little monkey!

A couple of funny stories that go along with his two month date. A couple of days before his checkup he was really fussy. He didn't eat for seven hours during the day, which is unusual for him since he eats every two hours. He cried constantly. I couldn't figure it out. Finally Rob convinced me to call the Dr. They insisted on seeing him immediately since he is so little. So we got him in and the Dr checked him over. She couldn't find anything wrong with him either. He didn't have a temperature which is the only thing that saved him from being admitted to Kosairs (the equivalent of Primary Children's hospital) for tests. While the Dr was looking at him, she pulled off his socks to check for what is called a hair tourniquet (a loose hair works its' way around a finger, toe, etc and cuts off the circulation). Once she removed his socks he settled down. Once I took him home he ate and was happy again. Turns out his socks were to tight! Gotta love that! I felt so stupid! So, now whenever he is fussy, we check his socks.

Another funny one. I guess I have always had a blanket covering me when I nurse Spencer and Sara has never really noticed what is going on. The other day I had to nurse him but couldn't find a blanket. Since I was in the privacy of my own home I decided it was okay to go ahead. Sara walked over, saw what was going on and said, "No Spencer! That's naughty! We don't eat Mommy!". Gotta love my Sara!

Gone

While we were at the dentist, she noticed that Anna's top tooth was pretty lose. She numbed it for her and told her to start wiggling it. She also showed her that she has the tooth fairies number in her phone and said that she would give her a call to let her know to come to our house. Well, unfortunately, Anna was not able to get her tooth out that night. She was in tears and so worried that the tooth fairy would come to our house and be upset with her that her tooth was still in. She had me call the dentist and ask her to tell the tooth fairy not to come because it wasn't out yet. The next day she worked and worked on it. When she felt it was loose enough she brought me some dental floss and asked me to tie it around her tooth and then tie the other end around a door knob. She then had me slam the door. The tooth went flying! She was pretty excited!

With that tooth out the other tooth started to become very loose. About three days later she came to me again and wanted to do the same thing. After we got it tied to the doorknob she started freaking out. She remembered that it hurt. So she sat there for about 45 minutes, crying. Finally I just went over and shut the door. Once again the tooth went flying. She was a little upset with me but glad to have the tooth out. I think she looks pretty cute without her two front teeth. She can still whistle, but she can't say the word!

Dentist Visit

At Anna's last cleaning it was discovered that she had two cavities. She was so excited and told everybody she could! I don't think she quite understood what they were. Anyway, we made an appointment to get them filled and she did great. She loved the fact that she could watch what she wanted to and didn't have to ask Sara.

Crazy Car!

We were out driving around the other day and came upon this crazy car shaped like a roller skate. Of course we had to take a picture of it! Oh, the things you find in Kentucky!

Art Show

Anna had an art show at school. The theme was Fiesta and all the classes designed something different. Anna's class did somberos. She did a wonderful job and was quite proud of herself!
