I watched Avatar by James Cameron last night with my bb..
I could say that I walked into the theatre with mixed feelings as reviews of the movie by surrounding friends differed. Some said it was the best movie of the year while others said the storyline wasnt exactly great.
The animation was FANTASTIC i can tell you.. it was hard to differentiate the difference and reality of The People of Na’vi and the Skywalkers. Each Va’vi is lifelike and have a character of their own.. They resembled the tribal villages of the ancient world where nature was the heart and soul of the People, before technology became the new god.
The contrast of the type of gods that were worshipped by the Na’vi and the Skywalker was interesting. The Na’vi believed in Nature, Eywa and the flow of life.. Believed in the necessary killing for survival and grieved for the needless loss of lives.. be it the creatures of Pandora, or the lives of their very own Na’vi. The flow of life of how each living creatures, plants, animals and Na’vi are in a certain flow of life and all that came from the soil, will go back to the soil, a beautiful cycle that will never end.
Yet, there comes the Skywalkers whose mother planet produces no more greens.. for the skywalkers themselves have ruined and killed their own mother planet. it draws an uncanny familiar distant emotion of how close we are to the skywalkers. of how possibly close that our future is that of described in that of Avatar. the Skywalkers are the ones who are greedy, who does needless killings and mining, destroying everything in their paths so that they can obtain what they viewed as important, money.
The setting of Pandora as a planet with not-so-distant neighbouring planets with illuminated plants in the night was a fantastic setting. it was one of the many times in the movie when bb whispered to me “can you imagine how this would looked like in 3D?”
The Na’vi also believes in the link that bonds everything together. It was fascinating to see how the Na’vi forms bonds with the wildlife of Pandora using a certain connection from the ends of their hair. Although it was like a super quick bond to subdue the animal, it was a cool idea of how the Na’vi controlled the flying and the running..
The animation was terrific, however, i felt that i was watching another “The Last Samurai” happening in Pandora instead of Japan.. However, i still think that this movie is worth 5 stars for the fact that it touches my emotions much better than the Last Samurai. do watch it! :D
anyway, due to all the intense action in the show, i was unable to free my hand from the grasp of my bb, and ended up with a overly-cramped hand at the end of the movie.. lol!
