Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #42 "Amazing Grace"

This week Requirement is to take your inspiration from the song "Amazing Grace"

In 1797, William Wilberforce, the great crusader for the British abolition of slavery, is taking a vacation for his health even while he is sicker at heart for his frustrated cause. However, meeting the charming Barbara Spooner, Wilberforce finds a soulmate to share the story of his struggle. With few allies such as his mentor, John Newton, a slave ship captain turned repentant priest who penned the great hymn, "Amazing Grace," Prime William Pitt, and Olaudah Equiano, the erudite former slave turned author, Wilberforce fruitlessly fights both public indifference and moneyed opposition determined to keep their exploitation safe. Nevertheless, Wilberforce finds the inspiration in newfound love to rejuvenate the fight with new ideas that would lead to a great victory for social justice.

Brooke inspiration for "Amazing Grace"

This is my favorite verse from the Hymn "Amazing Grace" but how do you really pick a favorite. All the words from this Hymn are so powerful.... I love these words because it expresses the love that the Lord has for us.. This movie is so powerful... Over 200 hundred years ago there were people all over the world trying to make this world a better place.. William Wilberforce was a man who made history.. He spoke for those who could not. He made the blind see. He lead a movement that would change the world.. Wilberforce helped to bring to pass the abolishment of slave trading in Great Britain.. While he was working hard to come about the abolishment of slavery he met a man who shared his life and his shame of the slave trading. In the movie he shared the words that became the song "Amazing Grace"

If you get a chance click on this link and read the true story behind the words of "AMAZING GRACE" it's worth the read.. I found this while I was researching this movie and Hymn.
I hope you enjoyed the movie..

Maureen's Card inspired by "Amazing Grace"

When I read the words to this well loved hymn, the theme of hope and promise for the future really spoke to me. I looked at all my inspirational stamps and this one seemed to fit perfectly. Though the hymn is old, my card is modern and cheery...I like that contrast. No matter how many years have passed, these words still hold true...."The Lord has promised good to me, His word my hope secures....Bright shining as the sun."

My new blog is: http://buttonsandbling.blogspot.com/
(Don't forget to visit Maureen and leave her loads of comments this is her first post on her new blog.. We are so excited for her. Thanks for being out guest this week Maureen. What an honor to have you.)

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #41 Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Welcome Everyone to the 41st Challenge where in honor of the newest Harry Potter movie that is being released this week - we thought we would feature the second Harry Potter movie: The Chamber of Secrets (The first Harry Potter movie: The Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone was a movie that we did for the Cinema Challenge #10). For this challenge you can do create something specifically from this movie or any of the HP movies. Here is an interesting bit of trivia - did you know that the part of Dobby, the house elf who makes his appearance in this book, was played by a ball on a stick during filming and was later digitally added in! For more fun facts like this check out the trivia behind this movie here.

We are excited to welcome our Audrey recipient from the movie: To Kill a Mockingbird, Yvonne (here is her darling card) as our guest designer this week! Yvonne chose the challenge requirement for this week to have an unexpected element in your creation - just as in the movie there are unexpected twists and turns and surprises ... this can be left up to your creative juices and whatever you think the unexpected element is for your creation!

I am up north at DH's cabin - no internet and didn't have time to get a card in :( so can't wait to see what you all have created!!! Wish me luck as I spend 4 days without internet!

Brooke's Card Inspired by the movie: Harry Potter

I was discussing what I should make with my DH this evening and he suggested so many things.. Anything from a lightning bolt, Giants, Remember-al, to every creature I have know Idea how to even spell... And the though of a Book came to mind.. I got the patten Idea from a wall hanging in my DS room.. I will post a pic on my blog.. You have to just love the "Harry Potter" Books they open up an whole new generation of readers to the world.. Every where you looked around everyone had a volume in hand... How cool is that.. All ages alike.
(p.s. I just noticed a little something I forgot so I will need to post a new photo later I will post the surprise on my blog later in the day it's already 3:00 a.m. just normal Cinema Saturday Girls hours LOL)
For one ONE of my unexpected twists and turns and surprises I decided to transform a discarded object.. for my SECOND surprise you will have to check out my blog...
Enjoy!!!

Yvonne's Card Inspired by the movie: Harry Potter

I love the Harry Potter series of movies because they are always shrouded in deep mystery and involve some form of time travel. In this movie, I love the enchanted Ford Anglia they got to ride in. Don't we all want to travel via a flying car? How exciting! And what's more mysterious than what's contained in a box? Thus, I was inspired by the movie to create a travel box. The unexpected element to the piece is the clasp I used for the box - it is actually a belt buckle.

Cheers, Yvonne

CInema Saturday Creative Challenge #40 - National Treasure (1 or 2)

Welcome to our 40th Cinema Challenge!

We can't believe that we are at number 4-0 already! And for our 40th challenge we are featuring the movie: National Treasure (either 1 or 2). This is a movie starring Nicolas Cage who is a treasure hunter who uncovers the mysteries of the great symbols of the nation and also in the process - who uncovers the mysteries of his own family and discovers the treasures of family loyalty, family name and fame and sacrifice.

So for our Challenge requirement this week -
we thought it would be fun to see
what is your treasure?

You can create anything that you treasure - from something quite literal and actual treasure cards to something more abstract -
 anything that you treasure... :)

Brooke's project inspired by ~ "National Treasure"

I know you are all thinking... What is this? And what does this have to do with the movie. Well let me tell you... Believe it or not there is a central theme in this movie about "FAMILY". Nicolas Cage's character "Ben Gates" is a multi generational treasure hunter... They all share the same obsession of finding the next clue while trying to prove the innocence of there ancestor. Who does "Ben Gates" go to for help.. "FAMILY" his father in the first and both his parents in the second movie..

When I was in University my favorite class ever was "American Civilizations". The colonial period is my favorite time in history... I actually really crave all history not just American history.. My girlfriend from England is always amazed at the history I can tell her.. She even stated one time " I think you know more about my country's history that I do" In the U.S.A. We take World History in Grade school, Jr High School, High School and University. Our Final for "American Civilizations" was a Biography about a family member.. I wrote it on my Maternal Grand Mother.. My Grandmother is a very private person so I treasure the memories that she shared with me for this paper back in 1990 .. My grandmother passed away June 28, 2009.. LOVE you Grandma..

My "FAMILY" is my greatest "TREASURE"

Sankari's Card Inspired by the movie: National Treasure

I have to say that I am a Nicolas Cage fan - maybe its because he and Johnny Depp were friends back in the day (yes - it all does come back to Johnny Depp!) I had fun watching both of these two movies (although I re-watched the second again the other day) and wanted to create a card with a  treasurey sort of feel to it...

I created an anniversary card for some dear dear friends of ours who are going to celebrate their anniversary this week. I wanted to make a treasure box of sorts and so tried to make one that had an accordian folder thing to it.
Inside these I have marked two wishes and then tied these into tbe scroll (the wishes are: "treasure each day" and "treasure each other")

I tried to make the embellishment like a compass and used more gold tones as the main theme of the second movie is to find the lost city of gold.
I had fun making it and for more card details check out my blog !
Hugs!
Sankari :)

Thank you to all of you who played along with our last challenge To Kill a Mockingbird! The movie is simply lovely and all of your cards brought out that movie! We loved everyone's cards and it is so hard to pick - but one card that caught our attention was Yvonne's beautiful card: My Darling - with the sentiment in small letters: "Love Knows No Bounds" - that is such a part of the movie - from the way Scout tries to protect her brother at the end, the way Boo protects Scout, the unbounded love of a father for his children -etc.  We hope you will join us next week Yvonne and hope that you will display your Audrey in your blog :) Also Ann had some yummy blog candy that she did random.org with and the winner is: Deb from Creative Heart Designs! Yay! Congratulations to both of you and a HUGE thank you to all those who played along or left comments! You guys are simply the best!

Cinema Saturday Creative Challenge #39 - To Kill a Mockingbird

Happy 4th of July to all our American friends! According to the
Arts and Entertainment site - the 7th movie that is most symbolic of Independence Day is the 1962 Oscar winning movie: To Kill a Mockingbird - which is a movie based on the Pulitzer Award winning book of the same title by Harper Lee. If you haven't seen this movie before - you must! along with reading the book - it is such a timeless classic!

This is one of the rare instances where the movie does justice to the book. The author of this award winning novel Harper Lee was pleased with the movie and according to Wikipedia writes this: "In that film, the man and the part met...I've had many, many offers to turn it into musicals, into TV or stage plays, but I have always refused. That film is a work of art." Gergory Peck who plays the lead role of Atticus Finch became great friends with the novelist - and even met her father (who the character was molded after) and he named his grandson Harper after the author. You can check out this link from Wikipedia for more about this wonderful book and film.

Early on - during our first few challenges that we did here at Cinema Saturday, our friend Ann of Creative Antics had asked us to feature the movie To Kill a Mockingbird which she has taught as a teacher to her students and so we wanted her to join Meredith (our Audrey recipient from High School Musical) as our guest designer for this movie (and we are so glad that they both said yes! :)

The challenge requirement for this week is to add a little bit of black and white in your card (you can any colors - just a touch of black and white - or a whole lot of black and white is fine too :)

Brooke card inspired by: "To Kill a Mockingbird"

So because this movie is rated as one of the Must see movies for the "Fourth of July" I tried to incorporate both the Movie "To Kill a Mockingbird" and the "Fourth of July"... I think this is a weird card.. But what the hay... "God Bless America" always and forever... I hope you all have a great weekend where ever you live. Have a roof over your head, a warm bed to sleep in, food to eat, can read this post, have a computer in your home, have friends and loved one to hug tight etc... you are truly blessed where ever you live.

Off to hug my family and celebrate....

Hugs
Brooke

Sankari's Card Inspired by the movie: To Kill a Mockingbird

I love this movie - it is one my favorites because of Gregory Peck's portrayal of Atticus Finch - who is just as I imagined him when I read the book. I remember my father reading this book when I was 8 years old and thinking that it mustn't be a very good book based on the title - little did I know what a great book this was and it was so wonderful when later on we read this book in highschool and I was able to talk to my dad about this book and we were able to discuss the themes, the characters and importance of integrity and honesty and the sense of duty and justice. So my card is dedicated to my father - who changed my life by introducing me to this book and ton of other classics and for all of the discussions of those books which have shaped my thinking, my ideas and self.

When I saw this sentiment - it just immediately reminded me of Atticus Finch - that he dared to do the thing that other people could not do at the time - and at the same time - people expected that him to do it along with respected him because of it. I adore the way he is with his children - and how he holds them close, as well as lets them go as they grow up. The little flower is a symbol of when Jem beat Mrs. Duboses flower bushes to a pulp and the subsequent lesson on life that he received from Atticus - and what true bravery is - seriously - this book is simply AMAZING! I love it and re-reading it always feels new.

A big thank you to our guest designers (and thank you Ann for the yummy blog candy!) - a big apology for not having mr. linky fixed yet (my computer crashing is wrecking havoc in all areas of my life right now). Hope you all enjoy the celebrations of the 4th and that everyday is a celebration!

Lots of hugs and happy wishes!
Sankari :)

Anne's project inspired by: "To Kill a Mockingbird"

I'm SO thrilled to be guest designing again for such a special movie. To Kill a Mockingbird is one of those rare films where the movie is (almost) as good as the book. I have the privilege of teaching both the novel and film to my ninth-graders every year, so I wanted to make something special to keep in my classroom. I chose to focus on one of my favorite quotes from the film to create this

For more details, check out Ann's blog:

This Week Anne would like to offer some Blog Candy to the challenge winner...
Check out Ann's blog for more details of this yummy blog candy!

Meredith's Card Inspired by the movie: To Kill a Mockingbird

First I must say that I am so honored to be a guest designer this week! Being someone who worked in the criminal justice field, I can truely appreciate the quest for justice in this film. I wanted to showcase "blind justice" and the document that spurred our country's freedom. I located a picture fo the Declaration of Independence and converted it to black and white. Then I found an image of Lady Justice and embossed it with black embossing powder to form a silhoutte. I was trying to show how justice and freedom go hand in hand, the way racial equality and justice go hand in hand in the movie. Human freedome and justic... what a great way to celebrate the Fourth of July!"

Check out Meredith's blog for more details!

-----------------------------------
