Grandma Mee Mee came into town to meet Addie and to help out while Nate was gone on his high adventure scout camp. It was so wonderful to have her here. She is the baby whisperer and could always get Addie to stop crying, or at least would hold her when she was. I hate that it was so hot here, because I dont even think she left the house once. Nate had a great time on his camp and I am thankful Mom was here to help. Thanks for a great week.

Welcome to Reality
Well Grandma Jo went home on Thursday and it was time for us to get use to what reality had in store for us. We were all concerned about me getting up during the night and then having to wake with Carter at 5am. We got Carter to bed at a reasonable time and then got Addie fed and in bed. Around 1:00 I woke up because Addison was fussing and as I sat up I say Carter's little head climbing up on to our bed. He was buck naked and said that his pants were wet. Now if any of you know Nate, you know that he does not do well with out sleep, so I have been doing the night shifts 100%, so it took a lot for me to ask him for help. He got up with Carter to see what was going on and I took care of Addie. Carter had thrown up everywhere. Nate and him cleaned up and got him back to bed, and I got Addie changed and back down. Then around 3 I don't know if i heard something or just had mommy intuition, but I sat up and Carter is at our bedroom door saying he has to go to the bathroom, however he was already going. So I got him cleaned up and back in bed. Lucky for us Carter slept in until 7:45, but it was quite a "first night" for all of us.
Thank you Grandma Jo
We were so blessed to have Grandma Jo come and spend a week with us when Addie was born. She took over with Carter and helped make the adjustment a little easier. They were constantly doing things. Carter is a morning person and usually wakes in the 5am hour. They went and rode his jeep, bikes, and even went swimming at 6am in the morning. Carter also loves him a moving and Grandma Jo tolerated watching Toy Story 2 at least twice a day. Carter had a blast and they were both exhausted by nap time and the end of the day. It was just a blessing to have her here so that I could concentrate on Addie and not have to worry about Carter not getting any attention, cleaning, food or laundry. I was also able to have some fun Carter mommy time too. Thanks so much Grandma Jo for taking time away from your horses, Steve and work to be with us. We love you and are so thankful for you!!!

Our Baby Girl (sorry it's a long one)
This pregnancy has been pretty different from my first. Not in a bad way, just different. We did not have to use fertility, I got sicker with this one, had a 2 1/2 year old to chase after, my hormones seemed to be more out of wack and the pregnancy seemed to drag on and on. I was so done being pregnant. With Carter I just remember loving the entire pregnancy and was so happy. This time I just wanted the end result.
From the time my water broke to the time that I delivered with Carter was 6 hours. Through my Doctor's experience he said that I would most likely be faster with this pregnancy, so we decided to get induced a week before my due date. This was nice in more than one way. We did not have to worry about who we were going to call at whatever hour to take Carter while we dashed to the hospital and hoped Nate did not have to deliver in the car. We were able to arrange for Grandma Jo to come into town to watch Carter and help out. I was able to clean the house and get everything ready. Nate and I did admit that we kind of missed the adrenalin and excitement of the rush to the hospital.
So Friday June 4th Nate and I headed to the Banner Desert Hospital for our 8am induction. Grandma Jo and Carter had a day of adventure planned, so Carter did not seem to care that we were leaving. We got all checked in and put in our small room (i guess they were busy and we got stuck with the small room). I answered all the questions and one of the last was if I wanted an epidural. To be totally honest, I was deciding not to get one just to save us some money. I figured if I was going to be so fast, that I could handle it. So I told the nurse that I was going to try without one. (Nate laughed at me because he knew with Carter I only lasted through like 5 contraction before I got one...). My doctor came in to check me out and break my water around 9:00am / 9:15. He got the "crochet hook" and "attempted" to break my water. I did not feel a gush or any water for that matter. He said he would be back around noon to check on me. The nurse said that the baby's head could be sealing off the hole, so that is why no gush yet. They gave me pitocin and the contractions started to increase, but they were not very strong at all. Nate and I watched the Today Show, Regus and Kelly and the French Open. Nate mastered Texas Holdem on his phone and we just waited. Nurses checked me out along the way, but I had not changed much, still dilated to a 4.
Around noon, Nate was getting hunger, so he left to the cafeteria to get some food. I of course was not hunger because I had been munching on Ice chips the whole time! While Nate was gone, I heard what I thought was a child crying in the hall. I muted the TV to listen better. I could not hear it anymore so I put the volume back on. Then a few seconds later I heard it again. When I turned the volume down I heard the most horrific screaming I have ever heard in my life. It was coming from the DELIVERY room next door. At that moment Nate walked into the room with the most horrified look on his face I had ever seen. We both could not believe what we were hearing. It was way worse than you would ever hear in a movie. That scared me into the decision to get an epidural.
Around 1:45 / 2:00pm my Dr. came in to see what was going on. He checked me out and asked for another hook. He said there was a big pocket in there and he hooked it and "gush" came out the water. The first time he must have just snagged it or something. So he said that he would probably see us around dinner time. My very next contraction after my water broke was very intense. I tolerated a few more while I mold over the pros and cons of a epidural and with the echos of that ladies screams, I pressed my nurse button requesting a epidural. My nurse got me all prepped while we waited for the anesthesiologist. He could have come a little faster in my mind, but he actually got there pretty quick. As I got the epidural Nate was holding my hand as I sat on the edge of the bed. The anesthesiologist was explaining what he was doing. Nate knelt down. I just thought his legs were tired (you know, from all his hard work :)) so he was resting, but the nurse asked him if he was ok and he said he felt like he was going to faint. I looked up and his face was a little yellow. The nurse brought him some juice and he gained his composer. He had told himself not to look at what the dr was doing, but he looked and the HUGE needle got him. He said that he just kind of blacked out. The second the epidural was in place I felt much better and so did Nate.
My Dr. came back in around 3 to see if it was safe for him to leave and go to the gym. He checked me out and I was dilated to a 8 and 100% thinned. He said that he would be sticking around. The nurses got me all ready and he came back in. After about 4 or 5 sets of pushes, our sweet baby girl was born at 3:26pm. The Dr. had to tickle her foot for a second and then she let us know she was here. She definitely has an intense cry. I held her for along time until they took her to get weighed and cleaned up. She weighed in at 6lb 13oz and was 19.5in long. She is just perfect and has lots of dark hair.
After the Dr. and Nurses did their thing, we nursed and just held her. She did great and is just so tiny. Grandma Jo could not wait any longer so they were on their way to the hospital. When they got there Carter could not see that I was holding Baby girl (we had not named her yet) and kept asking where she was. The first thing that he wanted to see was her feet. He just loves her little feet. He held her and was so excited to see her. He also loved the ample supply of juice boxes he could get. After about 30 minutes he was done and ready to go back home and play.
Now Nate and I finally had the time to talk about a name. We have always loved Addison and felt that was a good fit, but wanted her middle name to have some meaning. So we decided on Marie, which is Nate's mom's middle name. So it is Addison Marie.
We were finally able to make it up to our recovery room (even smaller than the delivery room) and settled in. We slept pretty good through the night with only waking once to feed her. If all was well with Addison and me we could go home after she has been alive for 24 hours. So after a day of on and off sleeping, check ups, pain meds, yucky foods and 2 "good to goes" we were in the car by 4pm heading home.
Carter was so excited to see us and wanted to hold baby R (that is what he has called her all through the pregnancy and continues to call her). It was nice to be home!
