De Ja View?

This scene looks all too familiar for Southern Utah!  We had a severe flood situation in 2005 and last week when it rained and rained and rained my "all-knowing" daughter made the comment, "This looks just like it did in 2005 before it flooded.  I think it's going to flood again!".  She was right, it was like de ja vu.

The photo above is a picture of the Southgate golf bridge lodged in the middle of the swollen
Santa Clara River.  This was when the river was peaking.
The photo below shows some pretty big roller rapids in the Santa Clara River.
This photo below is of the Virgin River from the Bloomington bridge.  The water is very swift and there is so much of it.  Because of all the recovery efforts from the 2005 flood the river banks were built up and  improved and this time it held all the water.  I heard on the news that there is actually more water volume in the river this time than there was last time.  I am just so grateful it held.
The feeling around town this time was much more controlled and calm.  The emergency agencies were prepared and instead of panic and disorder there was a sense of organization and control.

The banks of the Virgin River looking north towards the freeway from Bloomington.  The water came very close to the top of the river banks and it was amazing to see so much water flowing so swiftly.
Unfortunately, a small community downstream, Beaver Dam, lost a few homes in this disaster.
It is estimated that Southern Utah saved nearly $179 MILLION in damages due all the preparations that were made after the last flood.

We are so grateful to be safe, warm and dry this holiday season.

Thanksgiving 2010 in Phoenix

We went to Phoenix this year for Thanksgiving to celebrate Guy's parents' upcoming
50th wedding anniversary!
Both Guy's brother and sister were going to be there also.  It was a fun holiday reunion with everyone.  We went to the Mesa temple to take family pictures.  Guy IV took the photos for us and then he had some fun with them.  Look what kind of talent this kid has!  He fooled all of us when he brought it back to show us the "final" photo.  We were all confused and speechless for a minute before we could figure out what he did to us! We really aren't that SCARY looking!
(You may want to double click on these two photos to see them close up, it is entertaining)

the "GUYS" II, III, & IV!

Not only does Guy IV have photography editing talent, he sketched this photo of Grandma and Grandpa when they were young and presented it to them for their anniversary.  Yes, he was trying to suck up to them and win "the favorite grandchild" title.  I think it just might have worked too!
Sorry about the sideways photo:(

I have heard some say that this looks like a photo of Elvis and Meryl Streep!
Either way, he did a fabulous job.
Taylor, Sadie and I met up with some dear friends of ours that we do not get to see often enough.  The kids had a great time with the Parrott's:  Steffan, Allec & Makkel.  Lynae and I went shopping and then enjoyed a "not long enough" visit to catch up on old times.
The kids and I went to the Zoo to see the Christmas lights with Gwen and her kids.
Sadie went on a camel ride too.
We had a great holiday together.  We look forward to our holidays next year when Grant will be here to enjoy them with us.  Chanel had to work so she stayed home for this holiday but we will all (except Grant) be together soon for Christmas.  It was nice to get to know our extended family better too.  We do not see each other often enough.

Not in the mood to Blog......................all summer

Well, I just couldn't bring myself, as hard as I would try, to blog our summer activities.  I either felt really busy, too tired, or just didn't feel like getting into the details.  So, in review here is our summer in a nutshell.

Camp, camp, and more camps!
The kids were busy all summer long going to soccer camp, scout camp, dance camp, girl's camp and EFY.  I think there was one, maybe two weeks that we were all actually at home all at once this whole summer.
Sadie went to UofU for EFY with her besties Annie, Hayley & Amy and ran into a childhood (elementary school) friend, Justin Manning, that moved away several years ago.  They are now pen pals and talk all the time.  She loves getting to know him better.  They are planning to meet at EFY together again this summer.

This year was a crazy year for all of us in a medical sense.  We are ALL generally very healthy and do not go to the doctor hardly ever.  Well, not this summer!  I had a random incident while on vacation in Jackson Hole, WY in July.  I was riding my bike (no, I didn't fall!) and my lung spontaneously collapsed.  Without going into the details, it hurt like crazy and we went to the ER.  I was admitted into the hospital for two nights after I had a chest tube inserted in my ribs to inflate the lung.  It took several weeks before I felt normal again.  I hope that NEVER happens again.

In August Sadie had her tailbone removed.  She broke it almost two years ago and it never healed right.  It was a very long and painful recovery.  She had some complications with an allergic reaction to the interior stitches which set her back about three weeks.  She is doing great now and back to dance.  She is getting ready to travel to Florida with her dance team for the National Dance Championship Competition in February of 2011.  It should be aired on ESPN, so guys, if you are watching sports and you are interrupted by a dance program, watch for Sadie!

Since Sadie was already down and I had to stay home from work to care for her I decided to kill two birds with one stone.  Taylor needed his wisdom teeth out and this was a good time, I thought.  He got so swollen and I felt so bad for him.  He was down for about five days.  I was getting worn out.  I didn't really think it would be that big of a deal to care for them both.  I was definitely WRONG!  We all got though it but it was a tough month for everyone.

We are all very healthy now and looking forward to a new year of better health.

PIZAZZ Dance Trip - California May 2010

Sadie and I went to Disneyland and Catalina Island with her dance team, PIZAZZ in May.  We had a great time with all her teammates at Disneyland.  They performed on Catalina Island and then we enjoyed the rest of the afternoon on the island.  After three days of Disneyland I was worn out and couldn't keep up with the girls anymore.
