Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge--Smitten and a Farewell

Happy New Year!  I'm looking forward to a wonderful 2014, how about you?

To help ring in the new year, we have a new challenge at the Curtain Call that I know you're going to love.  Say hello to this week's challenge photo:  Smitten.

We also have a fantastic new sponsor for our challenge:  Linnie Blooms.  Not only did Linnie Blooms provide the Faber-Castell Gelatos the designers used on their projects today, but they are providing a gift certificate to the LEAD for this week's challenge.

I chose the Faber-Castell Gelatos 50's Diner collection for my card today.  The colors were so perfect for the inspiration photo.  First I stamped a cozy pattern using WPlus9's Fair Isle Backgrounds with Versamark on white cardstock and heat embossed it in white.

Using the blending tool included with the gelatos, I added the red pigment to one end of the stamped panel and the yellow to the other and blended each color toward the middle.  I just kept reapplying the color until I had the effect I wanted, then rubbed a baby wipe over the embossed pattern to remove any excess pigment.

The sentiment, from Uniko Studio's Stunning Snowflakes, is stamped in Basic Gray and adorned with a few gray gems.

Cardstock:  Papertrey Ink (Smokey Shadow), WPlus9 (White)
Stamps:  WPlus9 (Fair Isle Backgrounds), Uniko Studio (Stunning Snowflakes)
Ink:  Stampin' Up! (Basic Gray), Versamark
Tool:  corner rounder
Other:  Faber-Castell Gelatos (50's Diner), Filigree (white embossing powder), gems

As you may have seen on the Curtain Call Challenge blog, this will be my last post as a Design Team member.  It was a difficult decision to step away, but it's the right one for me at this time as I try to balance my new responsibilities at work and the activities of my busy young family.

Never fear, though, the talented ladies of the Design Team will continue to wow you twice a month over at the Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge blog!  I wish them all continued success and many thanks for letting me be a part of the reopening of the Curtain Call.

Thanks to you, my readers, for visiting today!  I hope you have a wonderful start to the New Year!

25 Days of Christmas Tags with Tracey McNeely

I'm feeling very honored today to be taking part in a fun event with my friend, Tracey McNeely.  This is the third year for her popular "25 Days of Christmas Tags", and this year is even more special because she has invited guest designers to join her each day of the month.

I'm sure Tracey needs no introduction for most of you, but not only is she one of my teammates in The 12 Kits of Occasions and at the Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge, she is also one my favorite designers.  I am always drawn to Tracey's ultra-CAS, fresh designs and her beautifully balanced use of color.  But more than that, she is one of the sweetest people I know in blogland, and she always leaves the most genuine and encouraging comments on my posts.

For my tag, I had actually planned to use the more recent holiday set from WPlus9, Merry & Bright.  Then I looked back at Tracey's previous tag posts and saw that Kara had used it for her gorgeous design.  There's no way I'm competing with that beauty, so I pulled out one of last year's Christmas sets, Iconic Christmas.

The tag and frame, patterned paper strip, twine, and gems are leftover supplies from The 12 Kits for November.  I stamped the tree on the solid tag, then layered the frame, silhouette image, and paper strip on top with foam tape.  The sentiment is from WPlus9's Silver Bells.

Cardstock:  Papertrey Ink (White)
Patterned paper:  Echo Park (Tis the Season)
Stamps:  WPlus9 (Iconic Christmas, Silver Bells)
Ink:  Stampin' Up! (Garden Green), Memento (Tuxedo Black), Sakura (silver gel pen)
Tools:  Papertrey Ink (Tag Sale #8), WPlus9 (Iconic Christmas die set)
Other:  rhinestones, baker's twine

I can't wait to see the tag Tracey created for today, and rumor has it there's a prize up for grabs at the end of the month.  Stop by her blog, In My Creative Opinion, to get the details!

Thanks to Tracey for letting me join her today.  And thanks to you for stopping by!

Curtain Call Inspiration Challenge--Welcome Home

Wow, how did it get to be November?!  The weeks are just flying by, and it's already time for a new challenge at the Curtain Call.  Check out our lovely inspiration photo:

Our sponsor for this challenge is Paper Issues, and they are offering a $20 gift certificate to the LEAD for the Welcome Home challenge.  Thank you, Paper Issues!

I was drawn to the soft blue, weathered wooden door in the background and the placement of the wreath off the edge of the photo.

To create this card, I first stamped the woodgrain pattern with white ink onto blue cardstock.  I ran my finger over the ink while it was still wet to soften it and remove any excess ink.

I don't have a wreath stamp large enough for the design I had in mind, so I created one using the single pine bough stamp from WPlus9's Merry & Bright.  I traced a circle in pencil where I wanted the wreath to go, then stamped the pine sprig repeatedly along that line.

The pine cone stamp is also from Merry & Bright.  The berries, sentiment, and ribbon are from WPlus9's Silver Bells.

Cardstock:  WPlus9 (Lake House, White)
Stamps:  WPlus9 (Merry & Bright, Silver Bells, Woodgrain Silhouettes)
Ink:  WPlus9 (White), Stampin' Up! (Old Olive, Chocolate Chip, Raspberry Ripple)
Tools:  WPlus9 (Silver Bells companion dies), corner rounder
Other:  Zig (Wink of Stella glitter brush)

I'm sorry if the colors seem a little washed out in my photos.  My computer is one that was issued by the college where I work, and it was recently upgraded to a newer version.  Unfortunately, the screen resolution is not as good and I will have to get used to editing my photos on it.

There's more inspiration from the talented Curtain Call Crew to help you get started!  I look forward to seeing all of the beautiful entries in the gallery this week.

Thanks for stopping by today!  I hope you have a wonderful start to your weekend.

Happy Birthday Sharron!

I have a special card today for a special lady and blog friend!  Sharron, the talented designer behind the blog, On Papillon Wings, and a teammate of mine at The 12 Kits of Occasions, is having a birthday today, and several of her friends have come together to help her celebrate with a blog hop.

Since Sharron's birthday is on the first day of autumn, I chose some warm fall colors to create a card just for her.  I used WPlus9's Written On Ribbon and Fresh Cut Florals, adding a stitched border and some glitter accents to the flowers with a Wink of Stella glitter brush.

Cardstock:  WPlus9 Design Studio (Oatmeal), Stampin' Up! (Rich Razzleberry)
Stamps:  WPlus9 Design Studio (Fresh Cut Florals, Written on Ribbon)
Ink:  Stampin' Up! (Chocolate Chip, Tangerine Tango, More Mustard, So Saffron, Rich Razzleberry, Old Olive)
Tools:  WPlus9 Design Studio (ribbon, flower dies), corner rounder
Other:  Zig Wink of Stella clear glitter brush, thread

Sharron, I hope you have a fantastic birthday and enjoy your blog hop!  Here's the full list of designers wishing you well today:

Christina (that's me!)

Stop by and wish Sharron a happy birthday, too!

Happy Fall, everyone!

Happy Birthday Kara!

I have a special card today for a sweet friend who is celebrating a birthday!  You probably already know Kara from the 12 Kits group, her Friday Inspiration File, and her beautiful creations on her blog, K and R Designs.  Some of Kara's friends organized a blog hop to wish her a wonderful day, so be sure to scroll down to see the full list of links.

For this card, I wanted to try my hand at a skewed panel, as they seem to be very popular at the moment.  I chose some festive paper from My Mind's Eye, cut it at an angle, and used a circle punch to make a negative space in one corner.

I knew I had to use a bird in my design, as Kara loves all things bird-related.  This one is from WPlus9.  I stamped the feet on the sentiment banner, then stamped the bird's body onto scrap white cardstock and cut it out to pop up in the negative space.

Cardstock:  Papertrey Ink (Hawaiian Shores), WPlus9 Design Studio (White)
Patterned paper:  My Mind's Eye
Stamps:  WPlus9 Design Studio (Woodgrain Silhouettes Additions), Mama Elephant (Soiree)
Ink:  Hero Arts (Ocean)
Tool:  circle punch
Other:  Michaels (sequins)

Here's the list of designers who have special posts today to wish Kara a happy birthday!

Tracey

Be sure to stop by and leave some love for Kara, too!

Have a great day!

Happy Belated Birthday Marybeth!

Hello!  I have a special post to share today celebrating the recent birthday of a sweet friend, Marybeth.  Several of her friends have gotten together to surprise her with a belated birthday blog hop, and I'm delighted to be participating.  I hope you had a fantastic birthday, Marybeth!

The inspiration for my card came from this photo collage I recently pinned:

Photo collage from Flights of Fancy
See that amazing dress on the upper right?  I wanted to recreate the look of the lattice pattern overlaid with bright orange and pink flowers.  I started with a Soft Stone base and stamped the stripes with Hero Arts Soft Granite.  Just a tip:  it helps to lightly mark where you want the lines to intersect with a pencil before stamping.

I welcomed the opportunity to pull out WPlus9's Fresh Cut Florals, using the coordinating dies to quickly cut, stamp, and layer a little bouquet, adding some glitter to the flower centers with a Wink of Stella clear brush.

Cardstock:  Papertrey Ink (Soft Stone), WPlus9 Design Studio (White)
Stamps:  WPlus9 Design Studio (Fresh Cut Florals, Strictly Sentiments 1), Avery Elle (Knotty)
Ink:  Stampin' Up! (Melon Mambo, Tangerine Tango, Garden Green), Hero Arts (Soft Granite), Memento (Tuxedo Black)
Tools:  WPlus9 Design Studio (Fresh Cut Florals dies), corner rounder
Other:  Wink of Stella clear glitter brush, rhinestones

Here's the full list of designers participating in this special blog hop for Marybeth:

And don't forget to stop by to wish Marybeth a happy belated birthday!

The 12 Kits of Occasions--July 2013

Hello there!  I have so much to share with you today!  It's the last day of the month, which means it's time for another edition of the 12 Kits, a monthly event where 12 designers work with the same supplies to create cards and projects with a particular theme.

This month we are debuting a new 12 Kits blog where you can learn more about our group and how it started, see sneak peeks of each month's kit, and enjoy bonus posts as we continue to create projects with our "leftover" supplies throughout the month.  It will also be your go-to source for links to each designer, supply lists, and links to our Pinterest board and new Facebook page.  These are all great places to connect with us and find inspiration every day!

To celebrate all of the new features we're bringing you this month, I'm offering a giveaway on The 12 Kits of Occasions blog!  Head on over to check it out and leave a comment on the July kit post for your chance to win.

Now on to my cards for this month.  I was our hostess this month, working with the theme of birthdays.  I had so much fun creating this kit, and you can check out the full supply list on the 12 Kits blog.  I've made 6 cards so far, and I'm sharing 4 of them with you today.

My first card uses the cake and banner topper from Mama Elephant's Soiree, a gold embossed sentiment from Hero Arts, and some fabulous metallic gold twine.

My second card today is my favorite.  The row of cupcakes is colored with Copics and highlighted with a glitter pen, and I placed the sentiment banner at an angle just for fun.

Next up is a simple card using the die cut cupcakes on an embossed label with just a strip of patterned paper and a few wood veneer stars.

For today's last card, I couldn't resist using this cute takeout box from Lawn Fawn.  I stamped the top of the box a few times, cut apart the pieces of the lid, and glued them back on the top to make an open box (inspired by Yainea's card HERE).  Then I arranged the balloons to look like they've just come out of the container.  I pierced small holes for stringing thread behind each balloon.

Thanks for sticking with me to the end!  I'd love it if you'd visit the new 12 Kits blog, leave a comment there, and pay a visit to the rest of the designers if you haven't already.

Have a fantastic day!

Moxie Fab World Birthday Sketch Challenge

It's a birthday celebration over at Moxie Fab World, with lots of fun challenges in honor of their latest special issue.  I'm away from home this week and next, but I had a chance to work on a few of the challenges before I hit the road.

First up is this great sketch by Betsy Veldman, with the added challenge of making a card with either all stamping or no stamping.

Not surprisingly, I chose the stamping option and kept things very CAS.  I stamped three of the cupcakes from WPlus9's Sweets & Treats in colors inspired by the magazine cover.  A brush of glitter on the frosting adds interest in the absence of embellishments.

Cardstock:  Stampin' Up! (Melon Mambo), WPlus9 Design Studio (White)
Stamps:  WPlus9 Design Studio (Sweets & Treats, Sweets & Treats Fillers, Strictly Sentiments 1)
Ink:  Stampin' Up! (Melon Mambo, Pink Pirouette, Gumball Green, Certainly Celery, Daffodil Delight, So Saffron), Memento (Tuxedo Black)
Other:  Zig Wink of Stella clear glitter brush

Have a fantastic weekend!

The 12 Kits of Holidays--June (2 more cards)

Cardstock:  Papertrey Ink (Vintage Cream)
Patterned paper:  Basic Grey (Aspen Frost)
Stamps:  WPlus9 Design Studio (Iconic Christmas)
Tools:  WPlus9 Design Studio (Iconic Christmas dies), Papertrey Ink (Tag Sale #3 die)
Other:  May Arts (ribbon, twine), thread, gem

As promised, I'm back with two more cards for this month's 12 Kits of Holidays.  You can scroll down to my last post to see the first two.  :)

We spent the day hiking and bird watching along the salt marshes on Plum Island, a low-key but wonderful way to spend an anniversary.  I had a few minutes to photograph my last two cards before dinner and thought I'd pop in to share them quickly tonight before the week gets away from me.

The first card makes use of the lovely silhouette images from WPlus9 and one of my favorite layouts for using different patterned papers.  Just lay down a few strips and stitch them together.

Even though I normally shy away from large patterns, I managed to make use of the one below for a quick and easy card.

Cardstock:  Papertrey Ink (Vintage Cream)
Patterned paper:  Basic Grey (Aspen Frost)
Stamps:  WPlus9 Design Studio (Iconic Christmas)
Tool:  Spellbinders (Grommet Tags)
Other:  May Arts (twine), Michaels (bell)

That's it for tonight!  Off to enjoy the last few moments of June...

The 12 Kits of Holidays--June

It's time for another edition of The 12 Kits of Holidays, and this month has a Christmas theme.  Our hostess, Jeanne, sent a box overflowing with beautiful supplies:

I have two cards to share today, but I'll be back with a couple more later in the week once I get them photographed.

The papers in this kit from Basic Grey were so lovely, I wanted them to be the star of the show.  Isn't this intricate die cut beautiful, too?

Cardstock:  Papertrey Ink (Pure Poppy, Ripe Avocado, Aqua Mist)
Patterned paper:  Basic Grey (Aspen Frost)
Stamp:  Stampin' Up! (Tags 'til Christmas)
Ink:  Stampin' Up! (Real Red)
Tools:  Spellbinders (Fancy Tags Two die), Stampin' Up! (label punch)
Other:  gems, thread

My second card is also clean and simple, which makes it great for mailing.  The tips of the tree branches have been dusted with a glitter pen.  I adore the look of the birch patterned paper!

Patterned paper:  Basic Grey (Aspen Frost)

More Fresh Cut Florals (2 cards)

Cardstock:  WPlus9 Design Studio (White)
Stamps:  WPlus9 Design Studio (Fresh Cut Florals, Very Vintage Florals)
Ink:  Stampin' Up! (Pink Pirouette, Regal Rose, Tangerine Tango, So Saffron, Certainly Celery), Memento (Tuxedo Black)
Tools:  Papertrey Ink (Linen & Canvas impression plate), corner rounder
Other:  Zig Wink of Stella clear glitter brush

Today was (finally) my daughter's last day of school.  She asked if I could make a set of cards as a gift for her teacher, and when she spotted a card I made previously with WPlus9's Fresh Cut Florals, she wanted me to use it for this set.

The hardest part of designing this set was deciding on the colors.  I finally settled on making three each of the two designs you see here:  a birthday version using warm pinks, oranges, and yellows, and a thank you version with aqua, purple, and yellow.  I added some glitter to the flower centers and used the linen & canvas impression plate from PTI to give the panel some subtle texture.

Cardstock:  WPlus9 Design Studio (White)
Stamps:  WPlus9 Design Studio (Fresh Cut Florals, Very Vintage Florals)
Ink:  Stampin' Up! (Wisteria Wonder, Pool Party, So Saffron, Certainly Celery), Hero Arts (Ocean), Memento (Tuxedo Black)
Tools:  Papertrey Ink (Linen & Canvas impression plate), corner rounder
Other:  Zig Wink of Stella clear glitter brush

I have several projects keeping me busy at the moment, but I hope to be back soon!  Thanks for stopping by.

Little girl's stationery set--Sweets & Treats

Cardstock:  Stampin' Up! (Wisteria Wonder), WPlus9 Design Studio (White)
Stamps:  WPlus9 Design Studio (Sweets & Treats, Sweets & Treats Fillers), Papertrey Ink (Just for You)
Ink:  Stampin' Up! (Pool Party, Wisteria Wonder, Calypso Coral), Memento (Tuxedo Black)
Tools:  Papertrey Ink (Tag Sale #3 die), WPlus9 Design Studio (Sweets & Treats dies)
Other:  ribbon, baker's twine

One of my daughter's best friends moved to our street last summer from California.  She's headed back to southern CA for most of the summer to visit family, and I know she and my daughter will miss playing together.  So I decided to make a simple stationery set to help them keep in touch.

Using WPlus9's Sweets & Treats, I stamped the cupcakes in aqua, coral, and purple on flat notecards, rounding the corners to give them a polished look.  The sentiments are from Paper Smooches' Chit Chat.

Cardstock:  Michaels (White)
Stamps:  WPlus9 Design Studio (Sweets & Treats), Paper Smooches (Chit Chat)
Ink:  Stampin' Up! (Pool Party, Wisteria Wonder, Calypso Coral), Memento (Tuxedo Black)
Tools:  corner rounder

I came up with 5 simple designs and made 4 of each for a set of 20 cards.

Cardstock:  Michaels (White)
Stamps:  WPlus9 Design Studio (Sweets & Treats), Paper Smooches (Chit Chat)
Ink:  Stampin' Up! (Pool Party, Wisteria Wonder, Calypso Coral), Memento (Tuxedo Black)
Tools:  corner rounder

Since the girls are only 7, I thought it would help to label the envelopes so they know where everything should go.

Cardstock:  Michaels (White)
Stamps:  WPlus9 Design Studio (Sweets & Treats), Paper Smooches (Chit Chat), Papertrey Ink (Label Basics, Boxes, Bags, & Tags, Postmarks)
Ink:  Stampin' Up! (Pool Party, Wisteria Wonder), Memento (Tuxedo Black)
Tools:  corner rounder

I bought sheets of blank address labels, printed the return address, and stamped each with a cupcake.  I also included a sheet of postage stamps and a purple gel pen.

Address labels:  Avery
Stamps:  WPlus9 Design Studio (Sweets & Treats)
Ink:  Stampin' Up! (Pool Party, Wisteria Wonder, Calypso Coral)

This turned out so cute, and now my daughter is asking for her own set.  I have some ideas for making hers unique, so I'll be sure to share it when it's finished!

Thanks for visiting!  Have a wonderful start to your weekend!

June Cloud9 Blog Hop

I was saddened to learn that the Cloud9 Blog Hop is being discontinued after one fantastic year of challenges.  I was lucky enough to be a part of the Inspiration Team at Cloud9 for 8 of those months, and I have continued to be inspired by the creations posted there by WPlus9 fans each month.

This month's theme is Anything Goes, and I couldn't miss the chance to link up a new card using the recently released Fresh Cut Florals.  I have quite a few projects that require my attention over the next few weeks, and it's going to be hard to set these stamps aside to work on other things!  They are just so much fun to use.

I stamped the images onto Oatmeal cardstock, added some Diamond Stickles to the flower centers, and stacked two of the sentiments on this easy, flat-for-mailing card.

Cardstock:  WPlus9 Design Studio (Oatmeal)
Stamps:  WPlus9 Design Studio (Fresh Cut Florals)
Ink:  Stampin' Up! (Pool Party, Wisteria Wonder, So Saffron, Certainly Celery, Chocolate Chip), Hero Arts (Ocean)
Tool:  corner rounder
Other:  Diamond Stickles

Many thanks to Suzanne and the rest of the Team at Cloud9 for their hard work and beautiful creations over the past year!

Monday Mood Board #14 with Fresh Cut Florals

I picked up a few new stamp sets recently, hoping they would coax my creativity out of hiding. I'm determined to get back into the stamping groove, and the pretty little Fresh Cut Florals set from WPlus9 may be just the thing to get me back into my craft room.

I'm playing along with Dawn's Monday Mood Board for the first time:

In lieu of the ikat pattern in the graphic, I chose some dots and stripes from Echo Park and used shades of yellow, hot pink, and chartreuse.  Stamping and cutting these little flowers couldn't have been any easier, and I can see them getting a lot of use.

Cardstock:  Papertrey Ink (Harvest Gold), WPlus9 Design Studio (White)
Patterned paper:  Echo Park (Dots & Stripes: Soda Fountain)
Stamps:  WPlus9 Design Studio (Fresh Cut Florals)
Ink:  Stampin' Up! (Regal Rose, Melon Mambo, Lucky Limeade, So Saffron), Memento (Tuxedo Black)
Tools:  WPlus9 Design Studio (Fresh Cut Florals dies), My Favorite Things (InstaFrame die)
Other:  sequins, thread

That's it for today!  I'm off to my LSS today to pick up some goodies for an upcoming project.  Hope you have a wonderful Friday!
