I thought I'd play with the SLR around Lucy's yard while waiting for Thanksgiving dinner. This was my favorite.

Betrothed
You all have probably heard, but yes, Lucy and I are engaged. This weekend we headed up the coast to go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and drive down through the Big Sur California costal area. It was kind of my trip for my birthday this past week.
After the aquarium we started our way down the coast, pulling off occasionally to see the sights. I was looking forward to seeing the Bixby bridge which is a pretty cool landmark in the Big Sur area, and had expressed this to Lucy. We pulled off a little before it and hiked down to the cliffs. We had a spectacular view of the coast and the bridge (as you can see below).
As we were enjoying the view I pulled out a a plastic engagement ring that I've had forever and showed it to Lucy. I asked her how she felt about taking this ring for now, getting engaged, and figuring out a real ring for her soon. She was very shocked and asked me if we were really getting engaged.
I then proceeded to pull out the real ring I'd had made for her and told her she could instead have this one. I took a knee and proposed properly. At first she didn't know if this next ring was fake too but I assured her it was real and she of course said yes.
We then got back in the car and went down to the bridge in the distance, only to realize it was the Rocky Creek bridge. I guess it is commonly confused with the Bixby bridge but is just before the Bixby bridge and a little smaller. We both had a good laugh when we realized this.
PS the Big Sur area is amazing, you all need to drive it and do a few hikes there...

Starship Enterprise
Thanks to Lucy, Verizon Wireless, and Nokia I got to go see a pre-screening of the new Star Trek movie tonight. Lucy works in Verizon's marketing department so she is able to get tickets to a lot of Verizon sponsored events. She knew of my families Trekkie history so she jumped at the chance to go to this premiere.
The movie was really good. It certainly had aspects of it that were very much akin to your typical Star Trek movie (certain catch phrases and such) but it was also very atypical. This is a Star Trek made for the general public, not just the old Trekkies.
Enjoy my red carpet photo:

She asked for it
You all now know from my previous post of my new Glocks I am waiting to pick up. In the meantime I had a picture of them on my phone's back ground to remind me they exist. The other day Lucy was jokingly hasseling me that I set guns as the background but never any pictures of her. As you can see, I came up with a solution that satisfies all parties....

Catch Up Time
It's been quite a while since I've written a blog so I am sure I have missed out recording a lot but let me post about some of the important updates.
First of all, I am now Scuba certified thanks to Lucy. For Christmas she bought me the beginner Scuba certification class which we both went through during February. It involved a few classroom sessions, a few pool sessions, and a couple of Ocean dives. Other than the fact the ocean is kind of cold in the winter, it was really cool. We did our final dives out by Catalina which was just awesome because by that point you are pretty comfortable with all your gear and being underwater so you can get down to the swimming around and exploring. As far as my Scuba future goes, Lucy and I plan to definitely do some tropical diving sometime soonish and possibly enroll in the Advanced Scuba certification class.
My Next update involves Hanz and Franz, as my dad has named them. Ever since I was old enough to watch action movies I have dreamed of having two identical handguns so I can be my own action hero. Well that dream has become a reality. Well, almost... My dad picked up 2 Glock 17's for me a couple weeks ago, along with a Glock 17 of his own. These are Glock's full size 9mm handguns. They are paid for in full but I don't get them till I make my next trip out to Utah in May :( Now I just need to install laser sights on both of them....
Finally, I may be labled as a heretic and traitor by some, but let it be known that this blog is being posted through a Mac. I made the leap and bought an Apple Mac Mini a couple weeks ago. I have to admit I really like it. It's like taking the advantages of Linux, which I use at work and the user friendliness of Windows into one. I was able to easily set up all my work programs, as well as some really neat music and video programs. So far there is little if anything to complain about, sorry Bill Gates. Plus now I can think up a million dollar iPhone application and develop it (since you can only write iPhone apps on a Mac). I still have my Windows laptop too...for now.
