So our new ward we're in puts on a Sprint Triathlon every year (for the last 4 years) and I decided to go ahead and sign up for it. I am on the committee helping out with some of the techie stuff so after awhile I felt it was my duty to compete in it. Lucy is doing it as well.
I am not an aerobic (run, bike, swim) type person so it will be interesting. Luckily, it's the babiest of all the triathlons you can do so I think I can manage. It is a 750 meter swim, 13 mile bike ride, and a 5k run.
As far as these kinda things go, I've only ever ran in a 5k. I have started running with Lucy more though, and biking with a guy in my ward. My weakest part though is the swimming, so I'm really hoping to get decent at that in the next month and a half. The triathlon is on Memorial Day.
Here is my cool new bike. It is an old school 1986 Trek frame, but it has some pretty new and nice components and wheels. Consequently it runs really smooth but has a cool retro look. Got it on craigslist.... Click it to see it's full glory.

Travel Time
So it seems that this year will be full of travels for Lucy and me. In May we're going to spend a week scuba diving in Cozumel. Then in August we're going to a diving resort in Fiji. Lucy and I got scuba certified at the beginning of last year and have been antsy to go use our new skill at some exotic location.
When we were in Mexico last year for our honeymoon we planned to do some diving but because Lucy was sick when we got there and I got sick while we were there, we were barely able to go on one dive. That one dive was awesome though, warm clear tropical waters teeming with fish and such.
So when we heard that some of Lucy's friends were heading there in May, we jumped on board with them. They apparently go diving in Cozumel yearly and know all the best places to dive and how to keep the trip within a small budget. Cozumel has a world renown coral reef that is known as one of the best diving locations in the world so we are pretty excited.
Shortly after we had bought our tickets for Cozumel, friends of ours here told us about the "once in a lifetime" type trip they had just signed up for to go diving in Fiji and told us we could sign up too. We were kinda bummed we couldn't go, but then we looked at how much vacation time we had left for the year and determined we could barely squeeze in the Fiji trip. It's at an exclusive dive resort, Beqa Lagoon Resort, on a small island off Fiji near it's giant coral reef. No roads, no phones, beach front cottages, all inclusive gourmet meals, tons of diving, plus a shark dive!

Betrothed
You all have probably heard, but yes, Lucy and I are engaged. This weekend we headed up the coast to go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and drive down through the Big Sur California costal area. It was kind of my trip for my birthday this past week.
After the aquarium we started our way down the coast, pulling off occasionally to see the sights. I was looking forward to seeing the Bixby bridge which is a pretty cool landmark in the Big Sur area, and had expressed this to Lucy. We pulled off a little before it and hiked down to the cliffs. We had a spectacular view of the coast and the bridge (as you can see below).
As we were enjoying the view I pulled out a a plastic engagement ring that I've had forever and showed it to Lucy. I asked her how she felt about taking this ring for now, getting engaged, and figuring out a real ring for her soon. She was very shocked and asked me if we were really getting engaged.
I then proceeded to pull out the real ring I'd had made for her and told her she could instead have this one. I took a knee and proposed properly. At first she didn't know if this next ring was fake too but I assured her it was real and she of course said yes.
We then got back in the car and went down to the bridge in the distance, only to realize it was the Rocky Creek bridge. I guess it is commonly confused with the Bixby bridge but is just before the Bixby bridge and a little smaller. We both had a good laugh when we realized this.
PS the Big Sur area is amazing, you all need to drive it and do a few hikes there...

Starship Enterprise
Thanks to Lucy, Verizon Wireless, and Nokia I got to go see a pre-screening of the new Star Trek movie tonight. Lucy works in Verizon's marketing department so she is able to get tickets to a lot of Verizon sponsored events. She knew of my families Trekkie history so she jumped at the chance to go to this premiere.
The movie was really good. It certainly had aspects of it that were very much akin to your typical Star Trek movie (certain catch phrases and such) but it was also very atypical. This is a Star Trek made for the general public, not just the old Trekkies.
Enjoy my red carpet photo:
