the short trip to china was good fun. tho most of the time was spent having to help my mom n sis with the kids, i still had a lil time to go ard for a look see. the place we stayed at, anpou, borders the provinces of fujian and guangdong (i tink). and never in my life have i met soooo many people the spoke teochew. :P
with the confusing village layout, horried traffic and reckless driving, i would indeed have had difficulty if not for the many cousins that were ard. as they were having their new year holidays, most were with us the whole day (which included them helping look after the kids.. heh).
time there also made me realise the importance of chinese education back then in school. tho i was still able to converse in teochew to a certain extent, with pu tong hua being used in instances when my spoken dialect fell short, there were certain words that i could not articulate other than in english. :S
i should get an english- chinese electronic translator. hmmm.. with hanyu pinyin of course. :)
i wanna go back. soon.
