Rattled but Still Humming

My jaw dropped when I heard this on my cassette walkman for the first time, those were the days :)

Can't believe it's 20 years ago that I bought this (on cassette tape and later vinyl during those days)... still a damn fine album and one of the best concert films ever!

1st World Nation versus 3rd World Mentality

Walking home after a long day last Sunday - 18 May 2006, I was really alarmed at the litter problems in my apartment block in Serangoon Ave 4...

Seems that a few of its residents are too lazy, they can't even bother to empty their rubbish properly into the rubbish bin nearby but chose to empty it onto the floor next to the lift instead... this is just terrible and I'm really disgusted! This is not the first time such incidents have happened, rather, they have happened numerous times and it's really disheartening.

What's the point of having 1st World facilities (airport, seaport, financial hub, etc...) when the mentality of our people is so "3rd World"?

That's not all, on the same day, it was reported in The New Paper about how a young and rich (and probably very spoilt!) 20 year old Chinese male who was driving a Mercedes Benz, caused the death of a seemingly nice and harmless lady named Madam Lee Bee Hua, 56, who was driving home in her family's BMW.

It started off as a minor collision (I'm sure that's common if you're driving on the roads) but led to a car chase - screaming rage from the 20 year old which caused the death of Madam Lee after she suffered from stress leading to a stoke and ultimately her death.

This 20 year old male, chased Madam Lee all the way to her home and when he was there, he kept hurling obscenities at her. Her son-in-law came out of the house to see what the racket was all about and soon learned about the minor accident. The son-in-law told the 20-year old man that it was not a problem for the family to compensate him for the damages (apparently just the side mirror was damaged), but that 20-year old man just continued to shout foul language and in the process, caused unnecessary stress to Madam Lee.

At that time Madam Lee, who had high blood pressure, didn't feel well and had to be admitted to the hospital. So the ambulance came but guess what, that 20-year old moron was still there hurling obscenities till kingdom come. The whole neighbourhood was disturbed by his moronic swear words, they all came out to witness the situation.

At the hospital, and as written in the news report, it seems that Madam Lee has gotten into a stoke and it was caused by this 20-year old egghead. It was not possible for Madam Lee to drive all the way home with a stoke so that happened later and why? All because of the insistent foul language of this 20-year old prick. And that's not all, it was also reported how this guy tried to cheat on his claims.

When I read this article, I was really angry. First of all, this person should not have been awarded the right to drive and get a license... besides passing the Driving Tests, shouldn't drivers also pass a personlity/character test as well? He doesn't respect others. It doesn't matter if that person were older or that it was a woman, he simply doesn't have resect for others. He doesn't have sympathy or mercy and so I don't think any should be accorded to him, he's obviously inhuman. I'm really sad to read all these stories in the news and also to see with my own eyes, the degradation of our society's moral fabric.

In today's paper... there's another story about 21-year old, Koh Kim Swee, whacking his mum's head with a hammer because she told him to off the fan! She almost died due to that but forgave him, but I really can't take it anymore...

New Genesis DVD out on May 26!

It's been a pretty busy past 12 months for band reunions, The Police, Led Zeppelin and one of my faves, Genesis.

Yeah, it's not the reunion that most fans had hoped for - one with Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett doing The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway - but a reunion with Phil Collins is better than nothing.

Another item to add to my shopping list and just in time for me birthday!

This is exciting! One of my favourite modern rock bands "Death Cab For Cutie" will be releasing their latest album "Narrow Stairs" on May 13! Hope it reaches our sunny shores soon. Here's the album cover... very nice!

And here's an edited version of their latest single "I Will Possess Your Heart"... nice bass line!

Steve Lukather Rocks!

I've always been a fan of Toto since my guitar welding days of yore - a group of super session players (not 4D betters...haha!), who have played for almost everyone in the universe! Recently, I've came across some YouTube videos of Steve Lukather... they were very inspiring and I can only dream to be 10% as good as him... enjoy!

Here's another with Joe Satriani, Joe's fantastic but I think Steve plays with more soul... his runs are crazy!

This is is from 1990, with Lee Ritenour... very nice! Great bass playing from Anthony Jackson as well!
