Happy Belated Christmas and a pre-Happy 2008 too, for those who are reading :)
What should I write about? Hmmmm... well, what about the Loudness War? Have you heard about it? Well, being a music lover for many years, it's really quite disheartening for me to hear lots of music (new and old) being destroyed by poor mastering.
Clueless about what I'm taking about? Well, check out this YouTube video about the loudness war:
Because of this "war", I'm more willing to listen to vinyl and unremastered CDs nowadays, where things sound much better. Sometimes I wish I was ignorant... it would probably be bliss... but with knowledge, comes responsibility!
I've also learnt a lot from the Steve Hoffman Music Forums (visit site) about the quality of music recordings today, and also about audio and hi-fi equipment. It's a great resource!
Also, being the end of the year, I've decided to post my favourite albums of 2007 (in no particular order):
- Wilco - Sky Blue Sky
"Wilco returms to its alt-country roots... Beautiful melodies with exquisite musicianship" - Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
"Is there light at the end of the tunnel? Just keep the car running!" - Clientele - God Save The Clientele
"Pastoral... English... One of my favourite bands of the moment" - Crowded House - Time On Earth
"Another decent set of tunes which are great live, looking forward to the next album..." - Ryan Adams - Easy Tiger
"Felt this is another fine collection of tunes... a bit of a throwback to the Heartbreaker-era" - The National - Boxer
"Reminds me of Nick Cave meets the Arcade Fire, gets better with each listen" - Suzanne Vega - Crime and Beauty
"Been a fan since Luka... think she's hit a new peak in her career with this" - Lucinda Williams - West
"Another fine document from America's finest songwriter at this juncture" - Iron & Wine - The Shepherd's Dog
"After hearing the sample track on a Paste magazine sampler, I knew this artist was special, when I got the album, I wasn't dissapointed" - Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
"Just a fun album of pop tunes... reminds me a little bit of Blur but in the American sense"
Till the next time...
