Carpe Diem Extra December 18th 2017 Last Call For Submissions
Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,
As you all know I am busy with creating a special CDHK E-book for the holidays. "Christmas Stockings" is getting its form already, but there is still room for a few contributions. So this is the Last Call For Submissions for this special E-book.
I appreciate all your work and there will not be any kind of selection, except this one: the submissions have 'holidays' as theme and that means Christmas, New Year and all that has to do with it.
You can still submit your Japanese poetry until December 19th 10:00 PM (CET). Please send your contribution, your submissions to our e-mail-address: carpediemhaikukai@gmail.com Please write "holidays e-book" in the subject-line.
Namasté,
Chèvrefeuille, your host.

Carpe Diem Extra June 14th 2017 A New Exclusive CDHK E-Book creation
Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,
Next month July 2017 it is one year after the death of Jane Reichhold, as you all maybe know she ended her own life on July 28th 2016. It was a shock to the whole haiku and tanka world and also for us here at CDHK.
I have created several episodes in honor of and in tribute to Jane Reichhold and I have decided to create an all new CDHK E-book in honor of her ... the Queen of Haiku and Tanka. In this new CDHK E-book I will gather a selection of the posts dedicated to Jane Reichhold. I love to ask your permission to use your responses on these posts. I know we have a permission policy (at the foot of our Haiku Kai you can read that policy), but in this case I love to ask your permission to use your work, because of your connection with Jane Reichhold, maybe you love to keep them for yourselves, and of course I respect that.
Jane Reichhold (1937-2016) |
However I have made one exception. The haiku which were submitted for the Tribute to Jane Kukai I will include in this new exclusive CDHK E-book which I have titled "I Think Of Days Gone".
Please let me know if you are okay with using your haiku, tanka or other Japanese poetry form submitted for posts by and about Jane Reichhold.
You can email to our emailaddress: carpediemhaikukai@gmail.com Please write in the subject line Tribute to Jane E-book.
Namasté,
Chèvrefeuille, your host
PS. I have highlighted the tribute to Jane written by Jen. You can find it at the left side of our Kai.
PPS. As you maybe have noticed I have removed two links to our exclusive e-books. You can find them now in our Library.

Carpe Diem Extra June 12th 2017 New exclusive CDHK e-book "Furu Ike Ya"
Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,
A while ago I did a call for submissions of "frog"-haiku to create a new exclusive CDHK e-book. It is my pleasure to announce to you that "Furu Ike Ya" is now available for download at our Kai. You can find the link to the download at the right side of our Kai. The image used however is not the cover of this new exclusive e-book.
I have gathered your submitted haiku and tanka and have tried to bring it in a nice e-book. In this new CDHK e-book you will find not only haiku written by our family members, but also haiku by a few classical haiku poets, an article by Jane Reichhold and a small essay about frogs.
I hope you all like this new exclusive CDHK e-book.

Carpe Diem Extra May 16th 2017 a work in progress ... and more
Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,
I have a few things to tell you, no shocking news or something don't worry. Today I started creating our new and exclusive CDHK e-book "furu ike ya", a compilation of "frog"- haiku inspired on that beauty by Basho.
Several weeks ago I did a call for submissions for this new e-book and you all have responded in a nice way with beautiful haiku, tanka and even a tanaga (thank you Celestine). I have gathered all those beauties and now I am busy with the further progress of this new e-book. I will add several haiku on frogs by classical haiku poets and I found a nice (short) story about a monk in which frogs are playing a role too.
"Furu ike ya" will become an awesome CDHK e-book I think. I hope to publish it this week or short after the weekend. I will keep you posted.
Earlier this week I published a new episode of "My Gift ..." in which I introduced to you a new CDHK special feature "haiku puzzler". I loved to create that new feature and you responded in a nice way.
sunflower field |
Recently, after the announcement of the results of the "cherry blossom"-kukai I did a call to submit haiku for our new kukai "sunflower". Until now I have had only one submission, so to have a great kukai I need more submissions. So ... if you haven't submitted your "sunflower"-haiku than please submit them to our email-address: carpediemhaikukai@gmail.com Please write "sunflower"-kukai in the subject line.
To conclude this CDHK Extra episode I have another annoucement to make. Next month all the prompts will be themed Tibet. As you all know Tibet is one of the most spiritual countries in the world. One of my unfinished novels plays for a very big part in Tibet and I loved visiting that country virtually. I once wrote a haibun about Tibet and I enjoyed that in a great way. I love Tibet and I am sad that it is no longer a souverain country since 1951.

Carpe Diem Special #199 Hamish's 5th a teaser
Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,
First this: Yesterday I got an email by Georgia (a.k.a. Bastet). She told me that Jen (a.k.a. Paloma) is in the hospital. She couldn't tell me why, but Jen had said not to worry. So I wish to ask you all to pray for Jen's recovery. From my side "Get well soon Jen, I will send you my love and prayers".
Today we have the last CD-Special by Hamish Managua Gunn (a.k.a. Pirate) and for this CD-Special I have chosen a kikobun from his new CDHK e-book "Shinrin-Yoku (the Art of Forest Bathing)" which I hope to make available this weekend here at our Haiku Kai. You can see this kikobun from "Shinrin-Yoku" as a teaser.
[...] ‛The Japanese literary travel journal (kikôbun) has been closely related to poetry. It characteristically weaves poems and the introductory narratives in a sequential order. The travel journals that existed before Bashô were often written in a first-person voice, with the traveler's itinerary revolving around the classical poetic toponym (utamakura or meisho) and the narrative centering on poems composed about them. This fusion with poetry simultaneously enriched and limited the literary representation of the landscape of the kikôbun; when centering on classical poetic diction, the geographical imagination of the travel journal was often defined by conceptions and conventions that had been molded by classical poetry rather than by the physical qualities of landscape.’ [...]

and the young morning’s fresh rain
reach my words
A wonderful kikobun. Hamish is really a master in this Japanese genre of poetry. In his forest he finds his inspiration and that's why he has chosen "Shinrin-Yoku" as the title of his CDHK e-book.
I hope you will enjoy the read and of course ... Shinrin-Yoku can also be performed in your own neighborhood or a forest close by.
Shinrin-Yoku cover designed by Ese of Ese's Voice |
The goal of the CD-Specials is to write / compose a haiku, or maybe in this case, a kikobun in the same spirit as the featured poet.
pine trees reaching for heaven -
