Lilly's First Dance Recital

Lilly's taking a combo dance class. She does ballet, tap, and jazz. This was just the Holiday recital and she'll have a Spring Recital too! Lilly likes to dance, especially with her friends!

Dave Turns 30!!!

Dave turned 30 on December 5th. It was a packed day!

- Church in the morning
- Birthday lunch with Andy, Kelly and kids at Red Robin
- Played ping pong with Andy and friends from church
- Birthday dinner at home with old friends and family and ate a humongous platter of sushi, chicken lo mein, dumplings, and a birthday apple pie with ice cream for dessert
- Played his new birthday present, the game Settlers of Catan, until 11:30 at night

Dave, we are so grateful for you! You are my loving husband and best friend, and you're our girls' playful and loving daddy. We love you so much! Happy 30th Birthday!

Thanksgiving in Maryland

Just a quick update on Thanksgiving.

This was our first Thanksgiving not in the Detroit area. Although we missed having multiple turkey dinners with our parents and family back in Michigan, we were able to celebrate Thanksgiving with Kelly and Andy and Andy's side of the family. We haven't celebrated Thanksgiving with them since they moved out to MD!

Kelly made a perfectly browned and juicy turkey, gravy to go with it, and soft, buttery pumpkin rolls. Other relatives brought tasty dishes to share and some desserts too. Mmm everything was really good. I contributed by making 2 or actually 3 pies/tarts. I found these recipes in the Food Network magazine. Both recipes were like a twist off of the tradition apple pie and pecan pie. I made an apple-walnut galette and a chocolate-toffee pecan tart. Yes, those are two pies but I ended up making 3 because I burned the chocolate crust on the pecan tart! I followed the exact steps on the recipe but the bake time was just too long! If anyone tries the recipe, I advise you to bake the crust in 1/2 the time that it says and cook the tart with the filling in the tart tin. Also line the edge of the crust with foil. It saves those thin edges from burning!

The apple galette was good, not too sweet, which I like. The pecan tart was a little more rich. In addition to shortening the bake time on the crust, I also put in 1/4 cup of granulated white sugar + 1/4 cup confectioners sugar instead of 1/2 cup of confectioners sugar. This pecan tart was definitely a hit. Andy's dad said it was his favorite and brought some home with him (the good tart and the burnt tart too)! Here are the recipes if anyone cares to check them out or try them sometime:

Apple-walnut galette

Chocolate-toffee pecan tart

This year, Kelly and I did a turkey craft with the kids. We cut out feathers from construction paper and the kids each had to tell us 6 things they were thankful for. Here were Lilly's 6 things she's thankful for:

1. Mommy, Daddy, and Mia
2. All my ... friends in Michigan and Maryland
3. Mama Tio (I love her so much and God loves you!)
4. My bed with hearts on it.
5. God
6. God has given us himself! AND raspberries, blueberries, flowers, milk, and toys.

We have so much to be thankful this year. Thank God for his faithfulness to us in providing for all of our needs and so much more! We have a warm house to live in (thank you Kelly and Andy!) and a church we can learn and grow with. Our hearts are full of thankfulness for our girls and our little family. Thank you God for your kindness to us. We are so blessed!

'N Stink

Dave was reading the Bible with Lilly this morning. They were reading about the birth of Jesus. Dave asked Lilly if she thought baby Jesus was going to be born in a big home or a clean hotel? Dave said that Jesus was born in the stable where animals live and reminded Lilly that sometimes when we go see animals at a farm or zoo it's kind of stinky. Then Lilly said, "Like 'n stink." Then Dave asked, "Lilly did mommy tell you that?" Dave thought Lilly was talking about the boyband 'N Sync, whose nickname is 'N Stink according to loyal Backstreet Boys fans. Haha After a hard laugh I realized Lilly must have been thinking of the word "extinct." Although I'm a BSB fan, I haven't trained my children to dislike the group 'N Sync.

Mia's Few Words

Mia's words at 15 months old:

- Mama
- Dada
- quack quack
- neigh
- woof woof (sounds like "woe woe")
- binky (sounds like "buh-buh")
- bear (sounds like "beh")
- shoes and socks (sounds like "shhhhhh")
- water (sounds like "wah wah")
- princess Aurora (sounds like "a-ra-rah")

Lilly's favorite Disney princess is princess Aurora from the movie Sleeping Beauty. I guess Mia has heard that name often enough to learn it!

First 2 Weeks of School Completed!

Lilly completed her first 2 weeks of school. I'm so glad she enjoys school and she's the one asking to do school each day. Most mornings, when we haven't even gone downstairs to eat breakfast, she'll ask if we can do school. She motivates me to be consistent with doing school during the week. Lilly calls me "teacher" during our school time. That's all her! I didn't tell her to call me teacher! I don't mind. I suppose it makes it our school time more official.

The schedule now is to have school Monday-Thursday. I've been trying to do it in the morning but this week was also Mia's first week of dropping her morning nap. Mia in the room during school time does not work very well. She grabs at everything and tends to get fussy between 9-11am if she's not engaged in doing something. So school time will probably change to after lunch, when Mia naps, and before Lilly naps. That's probably only a 30 minute window there. 30 minutes is enough time for our Bible time and preschool activities.

I'm planning our school curriculum around the alphabet. We go through 1-2 letters per week and I base the lesson and activities around the letter of the day. Last week we did letters A and B, and we learned about ants, airplanes, bananas, and the Bible. We learned ants have 6 legs and observed them with a magnifying glass on the sidewalk. We also flew paper airplanes off the front porch. This week was dedicated to the letter C. We learned the hard c sound like cake, clouds, and castle and the ch- sound like Cheng, Chinese, cheese, and chicken. We counted from 1-10 in Chinese (I hope to keep this up so she'll be learning a little bit of Chinese). We also ate string cheese as a snack and did the Chicken Dance. My goal was to get to the soft c sound like circus, circle, and Cinderella but we didn't get to that this week.

Here's a video of Lilly sharing about what we did at school that day:

And another video showing how proud I am of Lilly writing letters: I was completely surprised by Lilly writing those letters. She told me she wanted to write Evangeline's name "Nange" on her "Favorite Things" collage because Nange likes piggies, princesses, and the color pink. I was expecting her to write some scribbled lines, like she usually does when she pretends to write, but I was totally blown away. I hadn't worked with her very much on writing letters. A while ago, sometime in the winter, I tried pushing her to write the letter A, but she couldn't do it. I thought she just wasn't ready then and didn't want to push anymore. I didn't practice writing any letters with her other than her name L-I-L-L-Y. Now here she is, simply writing letters as I say them! She's writing the letters from right to left instead of left to right, but I'm still very impressed! Yes, I'm a proud mama.

And lastly, a video of Lilly reciting the Bible verses she's memorized (with some help):

Sweet Lilly is all grown up. She's become school-aged! Well preschool-aged at least.

Happy 1st Birthday Mia!!!

Mia turned 1 year old today. Wow. Our little girl is 1! We've enjoyed every bit of Mia's first year.

At 1 year old, Mia is now walking everywhere she wants to go. She tries to climb chairs and stairs. She loves jumping and rolling around on the bed. Mia likes to read books but only when she can flip the pages herself. She loves music, especially when Daddy plays music on the guitar.

Mia knows how to communicate hi, bye, and night night by waving her arm/hand. She also rubs her hands together I say, "Mia, let's wash your hands." or whenever she sees someone washing their hands in the sink or with hand sanitizer. Mia is often found playing with the shoes by the front door (that's no no!) or holding two toys, one in each hand.

Mia still has one tooth, but thankfully she sprouted one tooth by the time she turned 1 year old! Mia loves most food and fruit. More times than not, she's screaming at the dinner table for us to give her food, but if she spots any fruit on the table she'll push everything else aside and demand the fruit.

Last week we tried putting Mia in the church nursery. There was a lady holding Mia to sleep. She called her "Mia la nina", which means "my little girl" in Spanish. We love our Mia girl so much.

Dave worked hard to put together a video of Mia's first year. Lilly has a first year and second year video. We still like to watch them! It's nice to have short video clips and favorite pictures together in one video/slideshow.

Growing Up

I know I just posted a video of Mia walking, but that video was taken last month. Here's a video of her walking today.

Mia 11 months old

Mia looks too little to be walking around!

Mia can say "mama" and "dada" pretty clearly. Today she talked baby nonsense and said, "jiggaba jiggaba." Dave and I were excited because it reminded us of when Lilly babbled as a baby. Here's a funny video of Lilly babbling at 14 months old:

Lilly's grown up so much in the last year. She was our little baby but then suddenly got so much bigger once Mia was born. She's grown taller and older. Lilly's now a big girl!

Lilly

She still loves to play pretend. Most of her pretend play revolves around food (cooking, serving, and eating), but lately she's really been into castles, princesses, knights, and fighting the dragon! It's fun to see Ethan and Evangeline participating more in the pretend play games too.

Lilly loves to sing and make up songs. She sings very loudly! Her favorite color is pink. Actually she's quite passionate about the color pink. We're working on NOT always getting the things that are pink. Evangeline's also quite fond of the color pink and we often hear, "I want the pink one!" at home.

The girls are growing up. Dave and I want them to stay little because we're enjoying them so much! We thank God for our two healthy, funny, and beautiful little girls.

Mia Walking! And A TOOTH!

Video taken in June:

After we took this video, we thought Mia would start walking around on her own, but her preferred mode of transportation is still crawling. Although lately she's been cruising along furniture and even walking from point A to point B if it's something she's able to hold on to.

Mia walking to me today. Her cute outfit is from Auntie Joyce! Thanks Joyce!
Walking!

OH!!! And there is a bottom tooth coming in! It's Mia's first tooth! Our pediatrician told us the goal is to get one tooth by one year old. She barely made it! Mia turns 1 on July 26th.

Happy Birthday ... to me!

My birthday was on July 4th. I'm 27!
Happy Birthday ...

Kelly made a fabulous American Flag cake with blueberries and strawberries. It was delicious! Fresh fruit on cake has gotta be my favorite kind of cake. Thank you, Kelly, for making my birthday special with cake, a yummy lasagna dinner, and sharing such kind words and honoring me at dinner. I feel so blessed!

After dinner we went to Gaithersburg to see their fireworks show. It was Lilly's second time going to see fireworks but it was Ethan, Evangeline and obviously the babies first time watching fireworks. Lilly thought they were too loud at first but then she seemed to have gotten used to it and enjoyed the show. Of course the pink fireworks were her favorite! Mia seemed interested. At least she didn't cry!

The kids had fun playing with glow sticks, bracelets and glow toys before the fireworks actually started.
Fireworks in Gaithersburg

Mia's a little fussy in this pic but she did pretty well considering we stayed up so late.
Cheng Family At Fireworks Show

I really like ending my birthday with fireworks. It reminds me of childhood and doing sparklers in the backyard. I hope to make fireworks and sparklers a tradition for my kids now!

Hi From Maryland! Part 2

Our favorite picture of the babies, Addy and Mia:
Happy Babies!

Here's more of an update of how we're doing now:

- Dave's work - He has his home office set up in the unfinished basement amongst all of our boxes and other storage items. We bought a good office desk the first week we arrived. Dave says that he's able to get more work done because he has fewer interruptions and meetings. The downside is he misses some of that friendship interaction with his coworkers and it's a little harder to communicate over the phone. Overall, he really enjoys working from home. His morning commute is just walking down the stairs. We get to see him for lunch and then he's right back upstairs for dinner at around 5:30pm. We're so thankful he's able to work from home!

- Lilly - She loves having playmates around all the time. Lilly wants to do everything that her cousins are doing. This is great because the kids have a lot of fun and can entertain each other during the day, but then it's hard to pull her away if we need to go somewhere or even if I need to talk with her. The kids mostly play well together, but they also fight and pester one another like siblings do. Lilly loves her cousins so much, it's like they are her brother and sister!

Lilly and Mia are sharing a room. They've done surprisingly well with adjusting to sleeping in the same room. I'm VERY thankful for that! Sometimes Lilly will talk or sing before she falls asleep but I think Mia has gotten used to that. Mia stands up to watch what her big sister is doing or she'll lay down and tilt her head so she can see Lilly. When Lilly comes into our room in the morning we can ask her, "Is Mia awake or asleep?" Lilly's like our baby monitor in the morning.

- Mia - Her stranger anxiety has gotten better! She doesn't immediately begin to scream or cry when new people enter our home. She's also more at ease when she's in a room with large groups of people. I think it's because she had to get used to having a lot of people around (9 people total in the house)! It only took a few days for her to warm up to Uncle Andy and Auntie Kelly! :)

Mia's still little and petite. We don't have a doctors visit set up for 12 month appointment but I'm sure she won't be 20 lbs. by her first birthday. Mia still prefers to crawl but she's cruising along the furniture and can walk when we stand her up to walk to one of us. Mia eats what we eat, and she a lot of it too! Poor girl still has no teeth though!

- Lindsay - So far moving to MD has turned out to be a great move. I get to live with my sister. We talk throughout the day, help watch each others kids, take turns cooking, and share clean up duties! I think the days go by faster for me because the kids are occupied and I have someone to chat with during the day while Dave is at work. I used to be counting down those last few hours and minutes in the afternoon before Dave came home from work. Kelly's also my shopping buddy and she likes to bake yummy desserts! :D

Since there are two sets of parents/more adults in the house, we have more opportunities to go out to run errands or have date night. Dave and I didn't have a regular date night scheduled while we were in Michigan but now it's so convenient! We're free to go out on a date after the kids are tucked in bed. Our favorite place for date night is CaliYogurt. We each fill a cup of frozen yogurt and top it with delicious fresh fruit. Yummmm!

Dave and I like Maryland. There seems to be so much to do here and in DC! I don't think we'll ever run out of things to do, places to see. We celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary on June 26th. Dave planned a surprise date and arranged a segway tour through downtown DC (segways were a blast to ride and the tour was pretty good) and scrumptious tapas dinner at a restaurant called Zaytinya. There are so many more unique restaurants that we want to try. Dave's really been into finding and trying good Chinese or Asian restaurants. We've found a few so far!

Maryland seems like a great place to live, but it is more crowded and the housing is so much more expensive than small town Okemos. Our thinking has changed and we're beginning to say, "A townhouse doesn't seem too bad." Well the plan for now is to stay with Kelly and Andy for about a year to save up money and figure out exactly where we want to be. We really enjoy living with Kelly and Andy right now so I think it'll be hard to move any further than down the street from their house. We trust that God has a home for us. We just don't know if it's stay in the finished basement for longer or buy a townhouse or single-family house.

Ah! There's too much to say. Well more to come later!

Hi From Maryland! Part 1

Whoa! So I think I'm going to have to write this blog entry in bullet point style because there's too much to update. A lot has happened since I last blogged on April 7th!

- March - Dave and I were talking more seriously about moving to Maryland. We prayed and talked with friends but still felt unsure. Then we decided to just do something! We decided to go for it! Haha (Even though there are 3 votes for "Nooooo!" on our "Should we move to Maryland" poll).

- End of March - Dave asked work if he could keep his same job but work remotely from MD. Work said it shouldn't be a problem! There's already a guy in sales who works remotely from MD. Then we put our house up for sale.

- April - We were busy keeping the house in showing condition and working on simplifying our stuff. I sold a lot of baby items on Craigslist. We had many house showings with good feedback but no offers on the house. The tax credit incentive expires on April 30th. Dave and I considered staying in MI, taking the house off the market and waiting a bit if we can't sell the house before the incentive expires.

- April 25th - We got our first offer on the house! The buyers are a young couple and are very excited about the house.

- April 29th - Buyers signed the papers to get the tax credit after home inspections passed. The inspector reported no issues! They also ask if we're selling our furniture. Yes! It'd be great not to move all our big furniture. The couple asks to close on May 28th. Ah! That's just a month away! Okay God, we see you're making a way for us to move to Maryland!

- May - Dave and I set a goal to pack something each day. This helped so much. When the end of May rolled around we felt like everything was manageable so we weren't stressed out. We held a successful garage sale, sold items on Craigslist and donated stuff to Goodwill.

- May 27th - Doing laundry for the last time. I step close to the washer to put clothes in but I feel something squishy on my foot. No way, really? Did I just step on a dead mouse!?! Sick, there's a dead mouse stuck in a trap and I just stepped on it with my bare feet. :P I'm totally grossed out and glad we're moving out of this house! Thankfully, Dave took the day off of work. He got rid of the mouse and trap.

- May 28th - Closing Day! All went smoothly. The couple buying the house came from Gaithersburg, MD! We live in Clarksburg, MD but go to church at Covenant Life Church in Gaithersburg, MD! The buyers do not have kids but they have a dog. We handed over the house keys but we were still given 3 days to move out of the house.

- May 29th - Moving Day! Dave's mom and dad generously paid for us to hire movers. The movers arrived at 8:00 that Saturday morning. We find out that everything that goes on the truck is supposed to be a box. The moving company would charge double or more for boxes, so we get charged for a few wardrobe boxes. Lilly is very interested in what the movers are doing. She wants to help but I try to keep her occupied and out of the way. This ends up being a long morning and afternoon for all of us! And little did we know it would end up being a long night too. Haha ...

3:00pm The movers finish. The truck is completely packed, totally stuffed. There were a few things they weren't able to put on the truck like sleds and the kids wagon. Dave tucked the sleds in the back of the Civic, and then he looked at me and said there's no room for the wagon. I look him in the eye and say, "We're taking the wagon with us." I really wanted that wagon for the kids when we bought it so I really didn't want to just give it away. Dave had to take things out and rearrange the back of the van. Yay! The wagon fits!

3:30pm The kids are strapped in their car seats and I do a final walk through of the house. I cry as I walk through the empty house. I'm not all that sad to leave the house but it's the memories that were made in that house. This was our first house together as a married couple and family. When Dave and I returned from our honeymoon the living room was filled with wedding presents waiting to be unwrapped. This was the house where we brought our daughters home to from the hospital. Dave and I have such good memories of playing with Lilly in this house - playing hide and seek, having dance parties, blowing bubbles in the driveway, and riding bikes on the sidewalks. I cried again as we drove away from the house. Dave cried too!

3:30pm We drop the Civic off at Dave's coworkers house. We decided to pay for car movers so we could drive in the van together to Maryland.

4:00pm Get gas at BP on Jolly and Okemos Rd. and then we're off! We start the 10 hour drive to Maryland! We made two stops during the trip. The second stop was at a gas station where we saw our moving truck and movers! At least we knew they were driving straight from MI to MD! The kids did great on the trip but adults were tired!

-May 30th- 2:00am we arrive at Kelly and Andy's house. We're exhausted but glad we made it!

The first few weeks of living with Kelly and Andy and staying in their guest room really felt like a vacation. It's fun to see the kids play together. Lilly is so happy to have playmates living with her all the time! One time she told Dave, "Thank you for driving to Ethan and Girlie's house!" The babies are so cute together! We were able to celebrate Addy's first birthday! And Kelly and Andy were able to witness Mia's first few steps and attempts at walking. It's great to share these big moments together!

It looks like this will have to be part 1. The kids are up from their naps, but part 2 will hopefully come soon!

Crawling!

Last night, Mia took her first crawling ... movements. She's been moving her hands forward for a while but has quite gotten her knees to move along with her hands. Last week she started propping herself up on all fours. She'll stick her butt up in the air and hold herself up on her hands and feet. So now I think she's got the moving hands and knees at the same time! Although when she did this last night, she was very upset. Mommy was trying to pump milk and Mia was a ways away playing with toys. She wanted mommy and milk so she was crying and crawling at the same time! It was cute but sad. :)

Happy Easter!!!

Jesus is risen!

It's been a good weekend of reflecting on the death and resurrection of Jesus. On Saturday we read the Easter story from Lilly's children's Bible. Dave taught Lilly that Jesus died on the cross for our sins but then 3 days later he rose from the dead. jesus is ALIVE! This is why we celebrate Easter!

For fun we decorated eggs and did a little egg hunt inside. This was our first year painting eggs and decorating them with stickers. Lilly dyed all of her eggs pink, of course! I stuffed plastic eggs with jelly beans, dark chocolate M&Ms and a few little baby puffs for Mia. We also gave the girls little Easter bags with some toys and goodies.

Lilly was excited to say, "Happy Easter!" to everyone today. She even said it to us as we were tucking her into bed tonight. She said, "Good night. I love you. Happy Easter!"

Nursing Has Never Been Easy

I've concluded that my body has a difficult time with breastfeeding. The milk is there, but boy, do I have trouble with the whole breastfeeding process! It seems as though I've experienced every type of nursing issue out there. Currently, I'm dealing with reoccurring plugged milk ducts and milk pores and an unexplainable sharp pain, sometimes a burning feeling after feedings. Nursing wasn't a walk in the park with Lilly but it's been quite a battle with Mia. I made it 13 months breastfeeding Lilly but have only been able to survive 8 months (and still trying to continue) with Mia.

Breastfeeding has been a trial in my life. It's taught me perseverance and complete dependance on God. When I'm in pain it reminds me of my weakness and what I am without Christ. I'm very much aware of my physical needs. I want to be relieved from the pain! I'm also aware of my spiritual need for a savior. As a sinner, only Christ can save me.
Ephesians 2: 4-5 says,
"4But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ— by grace you have been saved—"

And Ephesians 2:8-9
"8For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast."

So what am I doing now with feedings? The plan is to gradually transition from breast milk to formula. I went out to buy my first can of formula and baby bottles. There are so many different types of baby formula and bottles! I'm entering a world that is completely foreign to me! Formula is SOOOO expensive! Thankfully we only have a few more months to go before she's 1 year old, and then we can start whole milk.

I'm a little nervous about transitioning to formula. I'm praying for a smooth transition for me and my milk supply and that Mia will take it well. I know formula is still good and Mia will continue to grow as a healthy baby. I don't want to look down upon feeding babies with formula AT ALL. I tried hard to feed my babies breast milk because it's supposed to be the most nutritious and I was able to produce enough, but formula is a really good alternative, especially considering the circumstances.

I'm pretty sure I'll be a happier mom with this change to formula. I hope Mia will still be a happy baby too! :D

Membery

Lilly likes to play board games and card games. We've been playing a lot of Memory lately, and she's pretty good at it! Lilly calls it "Membery".

Mia standing against the wall

She's got strong legs for a little baby:

Mia Standing Against the Wall from Dave Cheng on Vimeo.

Da Da Da ... Na Na

We love listening to little Mia babble. Right now she's just saying two consonants - Da and Na. She'll say it really sweetly, "Da da da da." And then she'll say it with an angry tone, like when she's hungry, "NA NA NA NA!!!"

Big Lilly, Little Mia

Or Large Lilly, Mini Mia.

I forgot to schedule a 3 year old well check up appointment close to Lilly's birthday so we just went in last week. We knew she was a sturdy girl and always seemed pretty tall around other 3, even 4 year old girls. It turns out Lilly is pretty tall for her age! She's in the 75th percentile for both height and weight at 38.5 inches and 34 pounds. Lilly's always been above the 50th percentile for height and weight ... haha and head size since she was a baby.

Lilly likes going to the doctor. She's interested in all the tools and procedures the nurses and doctors have to go through. This 3 year old visit was the first time they took her blood pressure. When the nurse got the stuff out she knew exactly what to do! She stuck her arm out and said, "I have one of those at home." Heehee She does have one of those blood pressure things in her doctor set. Then at the end of the visit she had to get a shot. I wasn't sure if she was going to be as brave as the time she got her flu shot and didn't cry, but sure enough she was brave and didn't cry again! She looked really worried though and then said, "Ouwah. It hurts." Lilly was fine after that and then was ready to pick out a big sticker for doing a good job.

Lilly is our tall, sturdy girl, while Mia is our mini Mia. She looks so petite. Some people are surprised when I tell them Mia is 7 months old because she looks smaller than their chubby 3 month old babies! Don't let her size fool you because this little girl can eat! She drinks milk 4-5 times a day and goes through about 2 baby food containers (sometimes more, breakfast sometimes less) at each meal. Mia will cry or scream between spoonfuls of food if you're not feeding her fast enough. Heehe although she's pretty quiet when you give her some of her least favorite foods like green beans. Mia must have a fast metabolism because just as quickly as she takes in food, she cranks it out. We're pretty much guaranteed to find something extra in her diaper at every diaper change.

We thank God for our two healthy girls!

Stranger Anxiety

Mia has had stranger anxiety since she was 3 months old! That seems a little early, doesn't it? I know it's typical for a 7 month old baby to be a little anxious around people they don't know because they're more aware of their surroundings and people, but Mia's been crying at strangers and even grandparents since she was just a few months old.

Mia's usually found sitting close to mommy or on mommy's hip, but thankfully there have been times when she'll let other people hold her or care for her. I've dropped her off in the nursery twice and she's also had 2 babysitters. I'm hoping to get her more used to going to the nursery and staying with sitters! She's definitely at a stage where she wants to play and explore.

Little Mia is always so smiley at home! We can just look at her and she'll smile. I wish this was the case everywhere we went!

Girl Scout Cookies

Just yesterday we received our two boxes of Girl Scout cookies. We bought one orange box (Do-si-dos) and one purple box (Samoas). I asked Lilly which one we should open first and she said the purple one. I think she chose that one because she likes the color purple and she saw the picture of the cookie with chocolate on it.

Tonight after dinner I said we could all have a Girl Scout cookie. Lilly went on to explain that the orange box were the "man cookies".

Craigslist

I put 9 items up for sale on Craigslist. I don't think I'll do that again. I've been getting so many emails! I'm too nice and feel obligated to reply to each email ... "Thanks for your interest", "Someone has already claimed it but I'll let you know if it falls through." It takes up a lot of time and is pretty stressful! Next time I'm going to do it in waves, smaller waves. It's hard to keep track of everything. Last night Dave said this was my part-time job because I was on the computer, on the phone, and looking out for people at the door.

It is a good feeling to get rid of things that we're not using. There's a sigh of relief and a sense of accomplishment when a sale is completed.

March Already?

It's hard to believe it's already March! Daylight savings is in 2 weeks! It doesn't feel like spring is just around the corner, but we are having some 40 degree weather here this week. It was so refreshing to walk with just a fleece jacket and the sun shining.

It seems like we just celebrated Lilly's birthday but that was in the beginning of February. She had a good birthday. She turned 3 on the 3rd of February! Lilly's grown up so much this past year or even just these past couple of months! Dave was away this past weekend and when he returned he said Lilly's saying more complex things, like using different words and making longer sentences. She's more interested in learning letters and writing. I think she can recognize all of the letters. She'll say, "A is for apple!" and "D is for daddy and donut!!!" and "Q has a tail. Q is for queen!" It's also neat to see how her drawings change as her fine motor skills develop. She likes to draw happy faces. Heehe the eyes are usually far apart and the mouth is a straight-across line. I've seen her saw a sun, kitty cat, and ice cream cones.

Lilly's into princesses, ballet, cooking/baking, and the color pink. PINK! She thinks anything pink belongs to her. I've said a few times, "Lilly, just because it's pink doesn't mean it's yours."

Last night, Dave and I went on a date to see the comedian Brian Reagan. He's a funny guy and it was an entertaining show! There was one segment where he was explaining how he has said things to his kids that he never thought he would say to another human being. I think all parents can relate to this! I thought of this because of my pink statement to LIlly.

Mia is 7 months old right now. She's our little petite baby but eats about 5 baby food jars a day. She loves fruit but sometimes cries through eating her veggies. You can never feed her fruit fast enough. It's like she wants to drink it up! Mia still has no teeth but she's chewing on everything and still our drool baby. She wants to get places and gets in crawling position but hasn't figured out how to move from there. Mia's favorite toy is this small plastic chicken that makes a soft rattling sound. She's such a jolly little baby. Well I guess she's mostly jolly around home and people she knows. Sometimes she cries when strangers look at her or when it looks like they're going to pick her up. She's silly.

I guess this blog entry will just be a mix of random thoughts and updates. I'm hoping this will be a jumpstart to blogging more regularly.

The next post will have to be about putting our house on the market ...
