Singapore's 48th National Day

Today is Singapore's 48th birthday. As it's a public holiday in Singapore, we had a day filled with fun & activities.

In the morning, after our breakfast, Kel & I brought the kids & Natalie (whom stayed over last night) to the NTUC at Tampines Mall for grocery shopping to prepare for our BBQ in the evening. After our grocery shopping, we went back home & I cooked a simple lunch of yong tau foo mee for our lunch.

After lunch, Zephan came over & the kids started playing with playdoh. (Note to self : Do not let the kids play with playdoh anymore coz they created a huge mess which I had to clean up) While the kids were playing, Kel & I prepared the food for the BBQ. At about 2.30pm, I got the kids to pack up the playdoh & changed into their swimming costumes. Natalie & Zephan had to wear Daryl & Dawn's swimming costumes as they didn't bring along theirs. Then we went down to the swimming pool where Daryl & Dawn had their swimming lesson from 3 to 4pm while Natalie & Zephan played alongside.

I couldn't get a decent pic of Daryl as he was too quick for me. Thus his pics were all very blur.

Natalie 'suntanning' in the pool while Zephan played beside her

After the lesson, the kids ran over to the children's fun pool to play for a while. When they got bored playing, they ran over to the hydro therapy pool & continued their play. 1st, they relaxed themselves in the jacuzzis, then they did a bit of 'exercise' in the aqua gym.

After about 2 hours in the pool, I chased all of them up to shower & get ready for the BBQ.

By then, Mum, Pris & family, Kat had arrived at our place already. Pris, KP & Kat brought Ethan down for a short swim while the rest of the kids showered in our place. At about 5pm, we came down again for the BBQ. While Kel, Pris & KP were busy setting up the pit, I looked after the kids.

Me : Ethan say cheese...

Ethan : Hmm... Can I think about it??

Ethan : Okie, don't say I don't give you face... Cheese

My poor nephew having bread for dinner coz I didn't prepare his share. I thought that Pris will bring his dinner along while Pris thought that I'll prepare for him. Sorry darling, I promised that I'll prepare a sumptuous 1 for you the next time okie...

Aurelia playing on the iPad surrounded by some of the kids. She's the most popular kid at that time.

Ethan & Aurelia 'chatting' with each other. It's so cute to see the 2 of them...

Ethan got bored & crawled away...

At about 9pm, we had to pack up coz some of the kids were tired already. Trina, Zephan & Ariel then went back home. Pauline, Natalie & Aurelia came back with us coz Natalie had to pick up her stuff from our place. Afterwhich they went back too.

Mum, Pris, KP & Kat stayed for a while more at our place. Pris & KP had to shower Ethan before going home coz there's a very high possibility that he'll fall asleep on the way home. While waiting, they had desserts!! Kel had bought some durians for me previously which I can't finish. Thus, he brought them out to share with my family members. All of them agreed that the durians are indeed very nice!!

After Ethan's shower, they left for home coz the little boy is starting to be a bit cranky. Then I chased the kids to shower & changed into their pyjamas while I cleaned up the house to the best of my ability.

It had been a great day today. Spending time with my family & some friends. Though there were some incidents which marred my day, I'm thankful for the rest of it. Happy 48th birthday Singapore!!

Dawn's School's 48th National Day Celebration & Sports Day

Dawn's school is celebrating National Day & Sports Day today. The kids are to be dressed in red & white sports attire & sports shoes. In addition, as they are having a potluck session during the celebration, the kids are encouraged to bring food to share amongst themselves.

I wasn't sure that Dawn can attend the celebration today as she had been sick since Sun. She was down with a persistent cough & ear infection. It pains me to hear / see her coughing & in pain due to the ear infection. Luckily she felt better today, thus, I let her go to school.

As I was too tired due to the late nights that I had been keeping (coz Dawn kept waking up in the night due to the pain from her ear infection), Kel helped me to prepare the mini chicken sausages that Dawn wanted to bring for the celebration.

Here's her outfit for the celebration which she had chosen herself.

Before leaving the school, I told Teacher Joyce to call me should she feel unwell so that I can pick her up earlier.

Hope that she enjoys herself during the celebration.

The Sun Goes Down

After watching the play - "In the Ocean with Gloobaloo", Dawn likes 1 of the songs - "When the Sun Goes Down" a lot. She likes it so much that she actually learnt the whole song by herself, courtesy of Youtube.

Today, while on our drive to Tampines Mall for dinner, Class 95 played this song & she started singing to it.

Daryl's P1 Learning Journey to the Zoo

Today all the P1 pupils in Daryl's school will be embarking on a Learning Journey to the Zoo.

According to the letter that was given to us, the objective of this Learning Journey is for the pupils to research on various animals in order to complete a class writing activity.

For the Learning Journey, he has to wear his P.E. attire & bring the following items :

1. Water bottle
2. An English storybook for silent reading
3. Healthy snacks
4. Ponchos / Raincoats / Umbrellas
5. A cap
6. Pencils & erasers for writing
7. Clip board for writing (optional)

He was so excited about this outing that he went to bed very early last night.

When we picked him up after school, we asked him about his maiden primary school outing. To our surprise, he 'complained' that the outing was very boring. Reason being, he has to follow his class & walked. Thus, he can't run about as freely as our previous outings to the zoo. When we asked him what did he do during the outing, he said that they only looked at animals & do worksheets. Well, I guessed the outing is not as fun as what he had expected.

A class group photo which a parent volunteer posted in the Parent Support Group's facebook page.

Hopefully his next school outing will be more fun for him.

Puzzle Time

I was browsing through the SingaporeMotherhood forum the other day when I chanced upon a mummy who is selling 4 brand new Barney puzzles at a bargain. Since Dawn had been pestering me for the longest time that she wanted 1, I decided to buy them for her.

The parcel came 2 days ago via registered mail. However, I was not home to receive it. Thus, after picking up Daryl from school today, I went to the post office to pick up the parcel.

Dawn was sooo thrilled to see the puzzles when she got home from school. She insisted that she wants to do the puzzles now. I refused & told her that she can do them before her bedtime.

After her shower, Dawn kept pestering me to unwrap the puzzles for her. Once I had done so, she started doing them. I wanted to see how much she can do by herself, thus I didn't help her. To my surprise, she managed to do about 1/2 of the puzzle before she gave up & asked me for help.

The 1/2 finished puzzle.

I helped her to finish the rest of the puzzle.

Dawn with the finished puzzle.

After she was done, we started on the 2nd puzzle.

Dawn with the 2 finished puzzles.

She had such fun doing them that she kept re-doing them. As for the other 2, I'll keep them for the time being & bring them out only when she's bored with the current 2. :p

Daryl

Teacher Joyce smsed me yesterday night asking me for some of Daryl's baby photos. As I don't have them in hard copy, I asked whether I can email the soft copies to her. She said yes. Then my next question is, how many do you need? She replied that she needs at least 5. So I was cracking my head on how to choose 5 photos out of the thousands that I have. Then it hit me... I can choose them based on every 6 months of his life. So here are my selections...
