Anatomy According to Heidi

Tonight at dinner we had a pretty funny conversation with Heidi. I was feeding Corbin some applesauce and he stopped for a second and then started coughing like he had swallowed wrong. I said, "Uh oh! Did it go down the wrong pipe?" After referring to my comment about going down the wrong pipe we got into a funny conversation about what "pipes" there are and which pipe was right and which ones were wrong. We found out from Heidi that there are apparently 3 pipes. The right one is the middle pipe which goes down to the belly button. The right pipe goes (can't remember what she said?)and the left pipe goes down to the leg and foot. The right and left pipes are the wrong pipes. Then Clint asked if she thought one of the pipes might go to the lungs and she said, "Oh, yeah that's right!"

She has quite the imagination! :)

In Love

Quite possibly the cutest quote of the day and possibly month/ year/ century!

Heidi: "I think Daddy and I are felled in love!"

I think Daddy's heart melted when I told her what she said. :-)

Heidi strikes again

This morning I was going to get Corbin out of bed so I could take Heidi to school and I told her to be quiet because she insisted on following me in there. I picked him up but he was still asleep. I was gently rocking him and trying to gently wake him so he wouldn't be startled. Then Heidi starts talking loudly.

Heidi: Good morning baby brother!!
Me: (quietly) Didn't I ask you to be quiet?
H: But I can't breathe if I'm quiet!
M: Then you need to go blow your nose.
H: No! I don't have any nostrils up there!

I think she was actually looking for the word boogers. :) she makes me laugh!

Barbecue Sauce

Tonight at dinner we were eating and I was telling Heidi that Daddy was going to a work party tonight so he wasn't eating with us. She asked if he was going to eat there and he said yes. She asked what he was going to eat and he said barbecue. She looked at him for a minute and then asked if he was going to drink all the barbecue sauce. We laughed and then she said, "Do you know what would be awesome? If he squirted barbecue sauce out of his face!" Ha ha ha... laughter erupted from us and there was a lot of it. There were also tears on my part. A lot of times we try to control our laughter from what she says but I couldn't hold it in this time. Too funny!

Prayers Before School

The other day, probably the 3rd or 4th day of school, Heidi was saying a prayer at breakfast. She said, "Dear God, thank you for this day that it is the last day of school. In Jesus' name, Amen." I smiled to myself and then explained to her that it was not her last day of school but that she would be going every day now except for weekends. Ha ha... you have a ways to go, kid! But she wasn't upset about this, she just said "OK" when I told her. Not sure how she got that in her head. :-)

On the way to school today we were saying a prayer in the drop off line. I had prayed for her to have a good day at school and for Corbin and I to have a good day and for Daddy to have a good day. I asked that God be with us and look over us. After I was done, Heidi asked how God could be with all of us. This question surprised me, but I was glad she was thinking about it and asked. I just explained how God can do anything and even though we are all in different places, He can be with us all. Easy, right? Well, I told her that I didn't really understand how it worked, but that I knew he takes care of us all and is always with us. She seemed satisfied at that answer, for now anyway. :-)

Berenstain Bears

Upon finding her two new Berenstain Bears books Heidi said:

"Oh! Berenstain Bears! I've been waiting for more my whole life! You're my sweetest Mommy in the whole world!"

I'm glad she is so excited about new books! :-)

My opinionated daughter

I put on my Thunder t-shirt today mainly because it's comfortable and it just felt like a t-shirt day. Heidi asked me what we are doing today and I said we are going to get our hair cut. She looked at me and said "That shirt doesn't say you're getting a hair cut." Wow, apparently I'm not dressed nice enough for that.

Disciplining... Not the Most Joyous Part of Parenting

This past weekend Clint and I decided we would take the kids to the pool. We were kind of excited. We haven't been hardly at all this summer. It would be Corbin's first time in the pool and we know Heidi loves going so we were looking forward to it. We planned on going in the evening when it was a little bit shadier and it wasn't as crowded. We were eating dinner and then we were going to get ready and go over to the pool. Heidi was playing around more than she was eating and it was already starting to get on our nerves. We tried telling her that if she played instead of eating we would not have time to do something fun after dinner. She took her time, but she finally finished so we told her to go wash her hands and face. Thinking this would take a minute and then we would be able to surprise her and tell her that we were going to get ready for the pool. Well, a few minutes went by and she finally came out and her clothes were soaking wet. I knew what this meant... she had been playing in the sink which also meant the bathroom was probably drenched as well. Ugh.... Clint went in to check and our suspicions were correct. There was water on the counter, mirror, floor and even the blinds... it was everywhere. The first thing we did was to give her a towel and tell her she had to help clean it up. Then we told her to go to her room for time out while we discussed what the punishment would be. The outcome was actually obvious to us, but not at all what we wanted to do. There would be no swimming that evening after all. It was as much of a punishment for us as it was for her but we could not let her go swimming after that and make her feel like we were patting her on the back. Bummer. At least we felt good about our decision and felt it was the right thing to do. This is definitely my least favorite part of parenting. There are so many joyous times of parenting, but this is not one of them.

More Heidi Quotes

On the 4th of July, we were getting ready to go to the Liberty Fest Parade and Heidi came out of her room and excitedly said, "I got my pledge allegiance flag!"

Today she asked me if I wanted to be a scientist when I grow up. :) I said, "I think I'll be a Mommy." She said, "But when you get Papa's number (aka age) you can be a scientist. I just said I didn't know about that but asked if that's what she wanted to be. She said no, she wants to be an animal rescuer like Diego. Ha ha!

Heidi's Lesson in How NOT To Play With Baby Brother

I was in the laundry room and the kids were in the living room. Corbin was content in his swing and Heidi was watching a video. The next thing I hear is a loud, "Roooooooaaaaaaarrrrr!" and then Corbin started crying and screaming. So I go in there and he has the saddest look on his face and I ask Heidi what she is doing. She turns around with a shocked look on her face and starts crying, saying that she was just playing with him. I explain that she can't be loud like that, especially in his face because it scares him. It was so sad yet a little bit funny at the same time. I picked Corbin up and Heidi kissed him and told him she was sorry. Hopefully she learned a lesson from that. :)

Elasticity

Heidi watched an episode of Sid the Science Kid and when it was over she ran up to me and said, "My bed has elasticity so that I can bounce on it!" Ha ha! At least she is learning something from an educational show! :)

God's Taking Care of Me

Tonight we were having quite a hail storm so I went in to check on Heidi since we had just put her to bed right before the storm hit. She looked pretty calm but she let me know she didn't like the noise. Before I could even say anything reassuring she said, "I know God is taking care of me, but can I have my monkey?" :) How could I say no to that? It was so sweet to hear her say that!

Corbin Neal Everhart

I guess it's about time I post about our sweet baby boy, Corbin!

He was born on Sunday, March 25th at 12:54 p.m. (Heidi was born on a Sunday at 12:55 p.m.) :)

He weighed 8 lb. 10 oz. and was 21 in. long... a big boy!

He is now 7 weeks old. It's hard to believe. He's doing great! He sleeps pretty well, occasionally all night.

He has started to give us some really sweet smiles! I have yet to catch a good one in a photo though.

Here are some photos from the past several weeks.

If a Mom Cleans a Kitchen

This evening I think I came up with a good book idea that moms can relate to. It's a spinoff of the books like "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie".

If a mom cleans a kitchen she will find trash that needs to go in the recycling bin. If she throws that trash in the recycling bin she will remember she wanted to put some paper shopping bags in the recycling bin. She will go to the laundry room to get the paper bags and see the piles of laundry on the floor and remember she wanted to do some laundry. If she puts some clothes in the washer she will remember there is more dirty laundry in the bedrooms. She will get the laundry and put it in the washer and start a load. She will remember to get the paper bags and put them in recycling which reminds her she was cleaning the kitchen. If she cleans the kitchen she remembers she needs to cook dinner. If she looks in the refrigerator she notices she needs to clean it out and throw out some old food. When she finishes cleaning the refrigerator she realizes it is too late to cook something and decides to just have sandwiches for dinner.

It's a never ending job, isn't it? I guess I could just say homeowner just as easily as mom.

A Girl After Her Daddy's Heart

Before dinner last night, Heidi said a prayer and just as we were about to start eating, she said, "Wait, I forgot to say something!" So we bowed our heads and she said, "Dear God, thank you for our daily bread and for ketchup. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Her Daddy is very proud. :)

A 4-year-old's prayer

Heidi's prayer before dinner tonight:

Dear God,
Thank you that we can all be together, that we can all get our party started, that we can move, that we can get exercise. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Restaurant

Heidi was playing restaurant the other day. This is how the conversation went:

Heidi- Do you want some food?
Me- Sure, what do you have?
H- Chicken a la King pie
M- That sounds good. I'll take some of that.
H- I'm sorry, we runned out of that.
M- Oh, ok
H- Do you want peanut butter and jelly?
M- Sure

Heidi went to her play kitchen and dug around for awhile and came back.

H- I'm sorry, all we have is barbecue, ketchup and mustard. We runned out of peanut butter and jelly.

Ha ha!

Daddy is weird

Last night I overheard my husband whispering to our newborn son.

"I'm probably the weirdest guy you'll ever meet and you're gonna love it!"

He makes me laugh! You gotta love sleep deprivation! :)

Heidi turned 4! On her birthday we had a new swing set installed. She was so excited and said, "It's a park!" when she first saw it. :) We also took her to see Beauty and the Beast in 3D that day and she loved it.

Heidi got to have a little party at school and I brought cookies. Then she had a tea party at home! The girls all dressed up and drank lemonade in real tea cups. I think they had a fun time.

Heidi got a new big girl bed and she was so excited! It was a little sad to see her little bed go, but it was time.

Heidi had her first Christmas program at Day School. Her class sang a song and then all the kids at Day School sang a couple of songs. It was pretty cute. Heidi was one of the wise men and held up her gift of oil. :)

The week before Christmas my sister and her family came to visit and celebrate Christmas early. The 4 cousins had a blast (as always) getting to play together and it was a really nice time together with all my family. I wish we had more times like that all together.

Christmas morning we opened our stockings at home and then went to Yukon for church with my parents and brother's family. Then we had lunch with my parents and enjoyed a quiet afternoon and evening at home.

My friend April got to visit right after Christmas and so I got to enjoy some girl time with her and Amanda and April's sister and a couple others.
