Life of Christ Day 1

Day 1
Anna and Simeon
Simeon: Luke 2: 21-30
Anna:Luke 2:36-38

There was a man named Simeon who was promised that he would not die before he saw the Lord Christ.
When Jesus was eight days old, Mary and Joseph took him to the temple to present him to the Lord and offer a sacrifice of turtle doves.  Simeon saw them and help Jesus “and blessed God, and said, Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
Anna, the prophetess was also at the temple when she  saw Mary, Joseph, and Jesus. “And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem."

Life of Christ Day 2

Day 2
Wise men
Luke 2
Wise men (how many is not recorded), guided by a new star, came to Bethlehem to worship Jesus sometime after His birth. Who these men were we are not told, but it is certain they were not ordinary men. That they were privileged to search out the Son of God and give Him gifts, and that they were spiritually sensitive and knowledgeable, suggests that they were actually prophets on a divine errand. The customary identification of them as astrologers is a gross misrepresentation. They evidently were holy men from a land east of Palestine. (Bible Dictionary)

Life of Christ Day 3

Day 3
Young Jesus in the temple
GAP 205
Luke 2: 41-45
Jesus and His parents went to Jerusalem for Passover.  Unbeknownst to Mary and Joseph, Jesus stayed in Jerusalem and sat “in the midst of the doctors, and they were hearing him and asking him questions” (see footnote 46c
“It was no unusual thing for a twelve year old boy to be questioned by priests, scribes, or rabbis,
nor to be permitted to ask questions of these professional expounders of the law, for such procedure was part of the educational training of Jewish youths”. . .
“the mother said: Thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.”. . .Said He: “How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?”. . .His reply was to Mary a reminder of what she seems to have forgotten for the moment—the facts in the matter of her Son’s paternity. . . She appears to have been astonished that One so young should so thoroughly understand His position with respect to herself.” (Jesus the Christ p.113-116)

Life of Christ Day 4

Day 4
Jesus Christ is Baptized
GAP 208

Matt. 3:13-17  ¶Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
43 And Jesus, answering, said unto him, Suffer me to be baptized of thee, for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered him
JST Matthew 3:44-46: 44 And John went down into the water and baptized him.
45 And Jesus when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water; and John saw, and
lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting upon Jesus.   46 And lo, he heard a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear ye him.
Sign of the Dove: ‘The sign of the dove was instituted before the creation of the world, a witness for the Holy Ghost, and the devil cannot come in the sign of a dove. The Holy Ghost is a personage, and is in the form of a personage. It does not confine itself to the form of the dove, but in sign of the dove. The Holy Ghost cannot be transformed into a dove; but the sign of a dove was given to John to signify the truth of the deed, as the dove is an emblem or token of truth and innocence.” (Smith, Teachings, pp. 275–76. Italics added.)

It thus appears that John witnessed the sign of the dove, that he saw the Holy Ghost descend in the ‘bodily shape’ of the personage that he is, and that the descent was ‘like a dove.’” (McConkie, DNTC, 1:123–24.)

Life of Christ Day 5

Day 5
The Twelve Apostles
GAP# 209 (fishers of men)
Matt 4:18-22, 10:1-42
Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw Peter, and Andrew his brother, fishing. He said,  “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.  And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.”He also called James and John. They also immediately left the shi and followed him.
Now the names of the twelve apostles are these;  Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphæus, and Lebbæus, whose surname was Thaddæus;  Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

BD “Apostle: The word means “one sent forth.” It was the title Jesus gave to the Twelve whom He chose and ordained to be His closest disciples during His ministry on earth and whom He sent forth to represent Him after His Ascension into heaven. The calling of an Apostle is to be a special witness of the name of Jesus Christ in all the world, particularly of His divinity and of His bodily resurrection from the dead.

Life of Christ Day 6

Day 6
Sermon on the Mount
GAP # 212
Sitting on a mountainside, Jesus gave His disciples teachings called the Sermon on the Mount.  He taught the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-12)
He taught the higher law about how we should love our enemies and do good to them.
He taught the pattern for prayer (Matthew 6:9-13)
He taught us to build on a solid foundation like a wise man (Matthew 7:24-25)
After Jesus finished teaching, the people were astonished because He taught them with the authority and power of God.

Life of Christ Day 7

Day 7
Miracles of Jesus
Woman with an issue of Blood
Luke 8:43-48

A woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, Came behind [Jesus], and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched. . . Jesus said, Who touched me?. . . They that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?. . . Jesus said. . . I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.   And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.   And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.
