Sunday Dress and Hair and Talk

The other day, Elle said she wished her hair looked like it does after we take her braids out.
So today, I used the triple barrel curling iron to make her wish come true!
It was cold and snowy out today, but Elle chose this outfit.
You probably can't see them, but she's wearing her cute little bumble bee earrings that her friend gave her, to complete the ensemble.

It took about a half an hour to do her thick hair!
Amazingly, we made it to church just before the opening hymn :)
And, Now I have to brag because Elle gave a talk in Primary today. I told her since the theme of this month is "The Scriptures Teach of Heavenly Father's Plan," she could give it on that.
We found an article in the friend all about the theme:

http://lds.org/friend/2011/02/the-scriptures-teach-of-heavenly-fathers-plan?lang=eng

I told her to do the activity, then write her talk from what she learned.
On her own, she came up with this! The only thing I did was type it up. When Chris came in to hear her talk, he leaned over and asked me, " Did she write this herself?!"

Yep. She's that amazing!

Elle's talk:

Our theme this month is: The scriptures teach of Heavenly Father’s plan. And that is true because in Moses 5:4 it says, “And Adam and Eve, his wife, called upon the name of the Lord, and they heard the voice of the Lord from the way toward the garden of Eden, speaking unto them, and they saw him not; for they were shut out from his presence.” That means they were on earth without being face to face with the Lord. But that was part of the plan.

They had children, their children had children, and so forth. But they all had to be taught the works of the Gospel, in other words, to be righteous. Like it says in 3rd Ne 22:13—parents should teach the Gospel to their children.

Since we need to get back to Heaven, Christ died, and was resurrected, and loosed the bands of death like it says in Alma 11:42.
I have a testimony that the church is true and that Christ made it possible for all of us to be an eternal family.
I hope you understand how helpful the scriptures are to us.
I say these things, in the name of Jesus Christ Amen.

Saturday Dress and Hair

I saw a cool hair style on a blog this morning, and I just HAD to try it out right away.
I'm spontaneous (OK impatient) like that :)
It's a little different from the blog 'cause I couldn't figure out how to do it the same way they did, but I still think it's cool!
Elle likes it because it doesn't look goofy in the front. It just looks like normal pig tails.
Everyone is happy!

And here's the "dress" portion:

Sunday Dress and Hair

Today, Elle picked her own dress, and did her own hair!

She's growing up so fast *sniff*

She came home SO excited today because her teacher remembered to bring her Score bar!
Her class has been trying memorize the Books of the New Testament song, and she finally did it!
Her teachers were tired of them all saying "Where is THAT?"
(I still sing it in my head when I'm looking for a particular book too :) )

Oh! the possibilities!

Nothing is more fun than a big box!
And two boxes are even better!!

Elle is still trying to decide WHAT to do with these awesome boxes!
It's more fun to decide with friends, so we might have to have an emergency play-date!

Where did we get such big boxes? you ask.

Well, you'd think I'd learned my lesson with the TV. . .

Chris blew out one of our speakers while he was watching Inception (the bass was really low), and he's been trying to decide if he should replace them not.
"You should TOTALLY get new speakers!" I told him "It's been years since you've bought some, and we really could use some better ones!"

So, while I was at the Dr. getting butchered, Chris somehow crammed two of these babies in the Mini:
They do sound awfully nice, and I'm sure Kung Fu Panda will sound even better now ;)

Happy Birthday Chris!

Getting old is a tiring thing

But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t celebrate!

The birthday gift highlights: a wheel and new racing game:

And a homemade cellphone holder from Elle

We had the traditional Jell-o Cake, then Chris and Elle enjoyed peeling out in the races!

Happy Birthday to my favorite guy!

And just in case you thought I forgot:

p.s. Elle and I are still waiting for good stories from the last post—we want to know your versions of why there was a piece of partially cooked, seasoned meat on the sidewalk!

Thursday, February 10, 2011

What is that?!

So, I was walking to pick up Elle from school today, when I saw something questionable on the sidewalk.
I don't usually walk on that side of the street, but it was in the sun, so I had to take advantage of every drop of Vit. D I could get.
"I'm not going to look, I'm not going to look, I'm not going to look" I told myself.
And I didn't.
Then, since it was such a beautiful sunny day, Elle and I walked home on that side too.
I had forgotten all about the "whatever-it-was" on the sidewalk.
We had to look.

This is what we saw:

No, it's not roadkill. It's meat. With the bone in.
Luckily, I had Chris' hand-me-down phone, so I could take a picture.

While we were staring and taking pictures, some people stopped to check it out too.
"What is that?!"
"I think it's chicken" I said.
Then one man said authoritatively , "No, it's meat. And it's been browned"
"And seasoned" another lady observed."
(you can see the little peppercorns if you look closely)
"The bears are going to love that tonight" someone else said.
We all just left it there and walked away.

All the way home, Elle and I came up with a story behind the meat on the sidewalk.

Here's what we came up with:

A woman was having a very bad day.
She was cooking the meat and had just browned and seasoned it when something tipped her over the edge.
She snapped.
She grabbed the piece of meat right off the pan mid-sizzle and started stomping around the house.
The door was wide open since it was so nice out, but she didn't even think about the weather as she hurled the meat outside and
*SPLAT*
it landed right on the sidewalk.
And there it lay.

Now, what's your story?

ps Elle is holding a "microphone" that she made herself.  I don't think she meant it too look like a chicken leg, but it's kind of funny that it does ;)
pps Here's Chris's two cents-- Don't worry, Elle didn't touch it, so she doesn't have "the meat touch." But Nanette did, so you'd better watch out when she comes near you.

Sunday Dress and hair

Since it was Fast Sunday, I decided we'd have time to do Sunday dress and hair!
Because it was Fast Sunday, Elle was super cooperative and very happy.

She was much better after church.

(which is kind of ironic since she'd been fasting since last night and we hadn't broken our fast yet!)

The back:

And because I always have her stand here in the hall, I thought I'd do a close up of the picture she stands under. My brother is amazing at calligraphy, and he did this "Families are Forever"
