Life’s Purpose and Pain

Laughter and tears, rejoicing and fears
Are just a few emotions that appear.
By loving so deeply our souls are attached,
A gift giv'n to man that remains unmatched.

But loving so deeply is so hard to do,
It leaves the heart open to wound.
For this mortal life is short and fragile,
Weak and vulnerable we seem for a while.

Please give us, Dear Lord, a way to see
Past the pain loves emptiness leaves.
Show us the wisdom how a wounded soul
Allows an injured heart to grow.

How is it, Dear Lord, that pain can increase
But the ability to love never does cease?
The need to love courses through our veins
And others happiness is the goal that remains.

Those around us that we love cause us pain
Because their happiness is so often maimed.
Is it a charitable heart, the gift we are to find?
Through loving others, do our lives mirror thine?

Life’s purpose is a gift given through love and pain
Without love what joy in life would remain?
So love deeply, give freely, no regrets you will find
Because by loving others are lives are divine!
