IICF Fundraising for Poor Kids Education in Indonesia

We helped to pack $9,000 worth of orders for home cooked Indonesian food as part of the fundraising campaign for poor kids education in Indonesia at the St.Andrews Episcopal Church in La Mesa. Amongst the food - nasi kuning with rendang, bak mi campur, cendol, empek-empek, bistik jawa etc. Most ingredients are brought from Indonesia, preparation and cooking started since Monday and they have been cooking in stages. Packing of all the food was today before the pre-ordered food was picked up or delivered if above $50. It was fun to help out for a good cause and to enjoy some good food as well. Was helping with packing the ju hu salad with bumbu sauce. Thank you to Uncle Kami for the invite.

Del Mar

Joined Grace bright and early at Del Mar Beach for a morning walk. 630am, no sunrise unfortunately as it was cloudy. Good work out, got in 11,500 steps, found fresh calamari on the beach and good brunch at Americana.

Good start to the weekend...

Impromptu dinner @ The Zonce's. Glad to see Arturo and Miwa after a long time. And after some wine, piano sessions took place (gosh me and my rusty fingers). Amazing how Steve can play by ear! Guess I've got a lot of practice needed. Thanks Aya for having me over. Enjoyed the chatter and laughter till midnight. It was a very longggggg day.

Sea N Smoke

Good catch up over lunch on the patio @ Sea & Smoke, Del Mar in a warm afternoon. The 'Un-leaded' concoctions of Ginger Sparkler and Cuke Refresher were definitely refreshing and the Niman Ranch Pork Belly Cast Iron Benedict over corn bread was good. That Pecan Banana Split Choc Brownie was a meal in itself! 年末休暇前に会いましょう ね

Tanglung Festival

First ever potluck organized by the newly created 'Malaysians in San Diego' group, and what better timing but to have it for the Mid Autumn / Lantern / Tanglung Festival. Surprising to see quite a few Malaysians whom I've not met before, especially after the Bersih 4.0 gathering in San Diego. We met up under a shady tree at Playa Pacifica in Mission Bay. Everyone brought home cooked food to makan. When it started to get dark, time to light up the lanterns (LED lit) and eat mooncake :) Moon was definitely very bright before the bloody super moon tomorrow.

Fried noodles, chicken rice, gula melaka agar-agar, yong tau fu, home made satay, cucur udang, beef rendang, sushi roll, red bean soup and mooncake amongst the food

Lovely cool day at the bay

Lovely!

Nutmeg Cafe, my new favourite breakfast place!

After the 5 mile walk around Lake Miramar (it was soooooo hot at 730am), off to Nutmeg Cafe in Sabre Springs. What used to be a hole-in-the-wall type local place, it's expanded to next door and has a big breakfast crowd. Good food for sure, coming back for sure.

NOK Thai

Thanks to Jenna and Samuel, enjoyed a good Thai dinner at NOK Thai (next to Gyu-kaku in Mira Mesa). Groupon has a $30 offer for $17. Make sure to make reservations as this place can get packed! Not the typical Thai decor, it's more of a modern contemporary cafe. Highly recommended Grapow Chicken. We also tried the Mango curry and Drunken Noodle. Was good to catch up with Yumi after she got back from Italy. Will definitely be back. Too bad they ran out of mango sticky rice :(

Poway Farmers Market

It's only 10min drive away, but my first time there. The Poway Farmers Market is there every Saturday with good selection of veggies, fruits and food. Also situated in the Old Poway District, the old steam train that runs though it is just so neat! My new stop for local produce!
