Color Theory Class for the Modern Quilter - in March!
Mark your calendars now! On Saturday, March 23 from 1-4, our president Jessica Levitt is teaching a Color Theory class for the modern quilter (at Pennington Quilt Works, Pennington, NJ - our meeting place).
Description: An introduction to the principles of color theory and how they apply to modern quilting. This is a hands-on lecture where you will learn to use color as a tool in your quilt designing process. Online tools will be discussed and there will be hands-on practicing with actual fabrics. There is no sewing during this class, and you don't need to bring anything with you, however if you have a particular fabric or pattern that you are finding difficult to work with, you may bring it to discuss briefly at the end of class.
Please RSVP here: http://www.bigtent.com/home/ calendar/event/75682788

January Meeting Recap
*Pictures from the December meeting have been posted here, and can also be seen in our Flickr group!*
First, we unanimously voted in our new 2013 officers! They are:
President: Jessica Levitt
Vice President: Jessica Skultety
Secretary: Kathy Stanish
Treasurer: Kristina Bobo
Cheers to the 2nd year of the Central Jersey Modern Quilt Guild! We've already had a board meeting and are excited to start another year of events, swaps, challenges, and lots and lots of fabric... who are we kidding?
General Announcements:
- Dues ($50 for the year) must be paid ASAP. You may send them to Kristina - if you don't have her address, email the account.
- Come to the February meeting with more ideas for the rest of the year - and think about if you want to teach a short demo lesson at a meeting.
- QuiltCon, the first convention of the Modern Quilt Guild, is only a month away!
- The charity blocks will be available to take home at the next meeting, if you'd like to make a large lap quilt.
- We had our Sewcial at Jess L.'s house last Saturday - we ate, sewed, and chatted - AND gave mini lessons to each other on random sewing techniques. Join us for our next one, in either February or March!
---------------------------------------------
We had our Secret Quilter Handmade Gift Exchange! All who wanted to be included received another member of the guild and made them a present based on their suggestions. It's safe to say this was a resounding success - we really do have an amazingly talented group of quilters! (pictures to come)
Spotlight
Spotlight this month was on Myra Corbett. She shared many of her quilts with us and the stories behind them (here are just a few):
Presented by the Modern Quilt Guild, this challenge is to make anything out of the Madrona Road fabrics by Violet Craft. The current international entries are here, and the FINISHED entries for consideration are here. Our guild's individual challenge was "detail" - however you want to interpret that. Our guild can share their work at the January or February meetings. More to come in another blog post.
Finally, we had show and tell. (more pictures to come!)
----------------------------------------------
February 12 Meeting Preview:
Discussion: Labels. Bring a quilt to show how you label it, or come ready to talk about your technique!

Madrona Road Challenge Update
Hi all,
A quick update: if you're doing the Madrona Road Challenge and would like to be considered for the Michael Miller booth, you need to post your picture in THIS Flickr group. The other, original Flickr group, which has all of the projects so far, is here. Two of our members have gained a lof of attention with their gorgeous mini quilts!
I'll be doing a post this week on the January meeting, as well as the Madrona Road projects that have already been posted. If you'd like me to submit your finished project on Flickr (ie you don't have your own account and don't want to get one), please email me.
The deadline for the international Modern Quilt Guild is still January 31. You may bring your project to our February meeting.
*PS: In the new Flickr group for Madrona Road, each account can only submit one photo. I asked the administrators about changing that for guild flickr accounts, but who knows. The point is, I'm going to try to post all of the ones I get!
Thanks!

Flickr How-To
I found a great video tutorial for Flickr - the photo sharing site - today, at the blog Pile O' Fabric. It's in three parts: setting up your account, uploading photos, and understanding Flickr groups. The tutorial is on this page. This is what you need to sign up for if you want to submit your pictures to the Madrona Road Challenge.
Check it out! If you upload pictures of your projects to Flickr, it's just like having a blog but without all of the maintenance and writing (trust me ;)). You can interact with other quilters, post your photos to big groups like Fresh Modern Quilts, the Modern Quilt Guild, and our own guild page (the links are all under the "Links" page at the top of the blog), ask for help on projects, get feedback, and participate in swaps and bees. Might I suggest Modernista Homemade?
If you have any questions about Flickr, I'd be happy to answer them! Send an email or comment here.
