first book out
They say that the first bookout will be the best, how true :D
BW owned MF last night :D We clinched best performance and solo performer, just like what MR did last year. It was a really solid performance put up by my juniors; I am immensely impressed (((: I think BW just did everything right this time (: They had greater instrumental range both in terms of tone colour and register as compared to HH, and better transitions and connectivity than BB, who had some awkward moments of silence in the music.
And i don't know if it was a coincidence, but the harp was placed right smack in the middle of the stage, so it was the very first thing the audience saw when the curtains were drawn. I heard so many gasps of "wow, harp!!" :))
The African opening was just mind blasting. Really powerful beginning, compared to the rest of the houses who started sparsely. Sabre Dance wasn't very effective, but everything else was awesome. John single-handedly carried two piece (i.e. Libertango and Simple Gifts), but it was really a pity that the violin was a tad soft in the Tambourin piece. Matador was refreshing, due to the the coolness of the pipa playing a Spanish piece, and Singapura was just fantastic. Really excellent use of instruments overall :DD I heard a lot of people commenting on the beautiful harp and cello passages :)
I'm also really amazed by HH's arrangement as well. Really really beautiful writing, especially the wind passages. It takes one heck of a genius composer to put them all together. *kowtows in admiration* BB put up a great performance as well, with several nice bits. The part where the drummer taps on the soundbox was quite cool i think.
Whatever haha, I'm soooo sooooooo glad that BW won this year :D I thought I might go back to watch them get second again, but thankfully that didn't happen. So extremely proud of my juniors, they put in so much hard work and they absolutely deserved it :D Continue the legacy BWMFians! Let the challenge shield bear the name BW every year starting from now!
Okay on to NS. Actually NS has been treating me well in my opinion. Some days are pretty slack in fact, where we just stone around watching movies in the lecture room. I've got some cuts, plus a slightly nasty abrasion on my elbow, but overall life's been quite good (: Silver for my first IPPT, so hopefully the next one onwards will always be a gold. Btw, NS food is really quite good, and my platoon has the best sergeant in the entire SAF :DD My bunkmates are quite cool as well, so NS has been quite enjoyable.
Anw, I changed my blog skin again, since the last one had some imageshack problem and i cannot be bothered to keep meddling with it everytime it happens. So that's it, it will be just normal Blogger Templates from now on.
Woohoo Field camp next week! :D Exciting stuff. Then after we bookout on Thursday, more exciting stuff awaits the next day :D
