Inter musical groups soccer: RISE vs RIGE

On a Saturday 2 weeks ago, RIGE played RV and trashed them 10-0. Then, feeling so pro, they sent 10+ emails regarding their victory on their e groups.

I heard the news on the Sunday after the match while talking to dennis on msn, and therefore decided to join in the fun too by challenging RIGE to a soccer match.

The match was held today, 30th of January, Wednesday. After a warm up session at the Astroturf before the hockers took over the place, we settled in the Raffles Square for the match.

The clock tower showed 9am as the ball kicked off. The start was quite intense, with a strong attack from RIGE. Fortunately the 3 man cellists defence which consists of jon lee, john shin and enzhao, coupled with a few good saves from our star keeper chentian, totally stopped the guitar ensem side from advancing any further.

The match continues to remain in a deadlock until our dear conductor Mr. Trevor Sze turns up. Oh man, that totally boosted our morale such that shortly after the first goal was scored.

First half ended with the score 3-0, with playmaker Daniel scoring 2 and captain JingHui scoring 1.

At this point, we all basically know what the outcome will be, so the second half is really just for fun. As the RIGE keeper was injured, our dear referee started playing for them, and his clownish performance allowed RISE to score 2 more goals. Jinghui scored again, bringing his tally to 2 goals, while Jon Koh shot in another.

Without a real referee around, the game was quite chaotic. RIGE managed to “score” 2 goals when the ball bobbed over the bags (which were used as goal posts) and therefore even though the RISE defence was indignant that there was no goal, the “referee” could only give the benefit of the doubt to RIGE.

At least their guitar ensem’s last goal was undisputable. One member took a shot, which keeper chentian parried away. The rebound was taken promptly, but chentian’s quick reflexes seemed to save the day when he caught the ball, only to be knocked down on the floor when fellow teamate Benjamin lee attempted to clear the ball and banged into him. As a result, the keeper was helpless under the weight of Benji while RIGE took the “cleared” ball and scored.

Nevertheless, it was fun. 5-3 ownage.
