No Barriers

I seldom get the chance to talk to my friends and keep them up-to-date with what's going on with my life... well, this is it. My online journal. Yah, another personal blog, just exactly what the world needs now. Let's be realistic, it's cheaper than overseas calls. Less tiring than novel-like emails.

Takaw
After unpacking our things and changing into our swimwear, we headed out for lunch. [Yah, yah.. you can hand me the fighting spirit award for having the courage to wear a 2-pc swimsuit. Don't worry I still had white shorts to cover up my "baby?!" fats... hehehe]

After swimming on the beach in the afternoon, we hopped from one bar to another - more sight seeing. We had dinner at the Boracay Peninsula - Eat-all-you-can seafoods & pork for only Php390 (local tax & service charge not included) . You can choose from several trays from fresh seafoods and have it cooked any way you want. We had calames, grilled pork, sizzling squid, sweet and sour crab, buttered shrimp, fresh oyster in vinegar (kilawin ba tawag dun?). ;) Yum yum - I'm starting to feel hungry now.

First...
It's his first ever plane trip - and I while on the plane I kept on talking about the Superman movie, specifically the scene where the plane was about to crash into the baseball field (Hehehehe). He's actually afraid of heights, and I insisted that he take the window seat. :) Not that I'd like to torture him, but just because I'd want him to realize that there's nothing to be afraid of and that the sights are breathtaking.

It's my first time to go to Boracay. Yup. No kidding. Jp, Jhim, Glad and I arrived at the Kalibo, Aklan Airport at around 9:30am.

[Txt Msg of the Day] "Now"
"Funny how we try to convince ourselves to look forward to every milestone that life would be better... and we get frustrated everytime... The truth is there is no better time to be happy than NOW. If not, then when? Your life will always be full of challenges. It is better to admit as much and to decide to be happy, inspite of it all. There isn't any road to happiness. Happiness IS the road. Enjoy every moment."
- Forwarded text msg from Shellie, 11/6/2007 10:44AM

I find it difficult to embrace the "now". Either I am always looking forward, or always reminiscing. I sometimes find that my days slip easily into the past without having been lived with enthusiasm. Shame on me. I hope this is not true for you, but if it is, shame on you too. ;)

Who Wears What?
The Devil Wears Prada was shown in Star Movies last night, and I enjoyed watching it again. The nice thing about this movie is that is shows the kind of corporate culture that is out there. It's refreshing to find something different - something that workaholics can relate to. ;) The message it tries to convey isn't really something new. It's something that most people would remind us about how we balance our personal life and work. A good friend of mine (Grouchy Angel) would often remind me that we are all dispensable and I should not take people who matters most forgranted. At the end of the day, work is still just work. It will never love you back, and sometimes no matter how hard you try or how devoted you could be, it sometimes just ain't worth it. The work that you do should make you feel happy about yourself and a feeling of accomplishment.... irregardless of the issues or problems you have faced. I guess Maslow's Hierarcy of needs is right. People do not work only for the security or money. People work to reach that ultimate goal of self-actualization. The only sad thing is that we all get too absorbed at times that most people who excel at work or those who may seem as if the office is already their home or those whose work becomes a #1 priority, sucks in out-of-work relationships.

Some memorable lines from the movie:

Andrea Sachs: She hates me, Nigel.
Nigel: And that's my problem because... Oh, wait. No, it's not my problem.
Andrea Sachs: I don't know what else I can do because if I do something right, it's unacknowledged. She doesn't even say thank you. But if I do something wrong, she is vicious.
Nigel: So quit.
Andrea Sachs: What?
Nigel: Quit.
Andrea Sachs: Quit?
Nigel: I can get another girl to take your job in five minutes... one who really wants it.
Andrea Sachs: No, I don't want to quit. That's not fair. But, I, you know, I'm just saying that I would just like a little credit... for the fact that I'm killing myself trying.
Nigel: Andy, be serious. You are not trying. You are whining. What is it that you want me to say to you, huh? Do you want me to say, "Poor you. Miranda's picking on you. Poor you. Poor Andy"? Hmm? Wake up. She's just doing her job. Don't you know that you are working at the place that published some of the greatest artists of the century? Halston, Lagerfeld, de la Renta. And what they did, what they created was greater than art because you live your life in it. Well, not you, obviously, but some people. You think this is just a magazine, hmm? This is not just a magazine. This is a shining beacon of hope for... oh, I don't know... let's say a young boy growing up in Rhode Island with six brothers pretending to go to soccer practice when he was really going to sewing class and reading Runway under the covers at night with a flashlight. You have no idea how many legends have walked these halls. And what's worse, you don't care. Because this place, where so many people would die to work you only deign to work. And you want to know why she doesn't kiss you on the forehead and give you a gold star on your homework at the end of the day. Wake up, sweetheart.

***
Andrea Sachs: My personal life is coming apart.
Nigel: That's a sign that you're doing well at your job. When everything really goes to pieces, you're about to get promoted.
***
Nate: [as Andy takes a call from Miranda] You know, in case you were wondering - the person whose calls you always take? That's the relationship you're in. I hope you two are very happy together.

Mr. Ancaja's Day
Happy Birthday, Allan!!! :)

It's the 27th Birthday of a long-time college buddy. :) Good food, fun times, exciting games and many frustrated singers.
With Mary Rose, while Jp and Adrian were busy playing Wii.

Mr & Mrs. Viray, Munching green mangoes

I can't remember what we were singing - hmmmm..Thank God I found you?

Allan, Gil, Lai and Rose - waiting for their turn to sing

Allan, playing Fear in his PC

Round 1: Gil vs Johnston

Round 2: Gil vs JC (fair fight?!)

Wiiiii... JC won!!!

Round 3: Adrian vs Jp

Allan is one of my close friends from college. I consider him as my 2nd guy bestfriend (next to Johnston). I tried to match him before with my friend, Danielle, but sad to say, it was one of the my failed match-ups, cupid's arrow just didn't work(Someone must have intercepted the arrow hehe).

Allan is a nice guy, and we are happy to see him sooo much in love with his fiancee, Rhia. Too bad Rhia wasn't able to join us today (she's currently on an onshore assignment in UK), but thanks to the power of technology, she was still able to see what's going on in the party via webcam. ;)

I'm sure that for the next gathering (Lai & Gil's Baby Shower this December), Allan will already have Rhia with him in the pictures. :)
