woodstock 5K

I'm doing it. Running (i hope the whole way) a 5K. On Saturday.
It's the Woodstock. And there is a Pre-race Pasta Pigout on Friday night at Classic on the Noble that is INCLUDED in the race fee. And I'm gonna get a shirt. A dri-fit one.
I have to wear a number and am gonna be timed by a chip.
EeeeeK!
Brian is running too, but will finish in probably half the time I do.
But that's OKAY.
I'm transitioning from walking to running and I don't like to run cause it hurts and you can't breath so well. But I'm gonna do it and run the whole 3.1 miles.
I also just finished reading Killer Angels (see side bar). I loved it. It's all just so emotional. A crazy war. Brothers, friends fighting each other.
I've been looking at maps and eating up anything I can learn about that Battle of Gettysburg. Tragic.
So! When the rain stops I can go for my last practice run.
Brian says I have to take Friday off. To rest.
Sure thing. No Problem.

who turned eight?

It's Carter!

I told him to go outside for a birthday picture.
He chose to sit on the front steps and to my astonishment
without any coaching at all - executed a PERFECT arm shelf!

He insisted on it.

I caught him off guard for the second photo.
But when he realized I was still taking pictures the arm shelf reappeared in a flash.
He just KNOWS what makes for a good picture.

Welcome to the accountability club, second son of a second son.
Welcome to the club.

we did something!

Ready for this?

First, we gathered up the supplies...

of which we had plenty lying around in the woods.

Then I set up the table I bought at the beginning of the summer so we could do all sorts of fun messy projects and 'crafts' outside.

I told them I wanted them to look like Easter eggs.

Then we could put them around the yard in the trees and stuff for a visual suprise of color where there wouldn't normally be any.

You know...

"Oh, look at the lovely trees and bushes

and woodland nature out there in the yard, but wait!

What is this unexpected delight of color there next to that glorious tree?"

Right!
Cool, I know.

and here they are in all their glory.

Painted Rocks!

it's a good thing.
(It's a good thing we finally got off the couch and did something else!)

Plums are in season

So I read in my Southern Living Magazine.
I read that now cause I live in the south.
What do you do with plums when they are in season?
Well!
I tore out a page from my magazine and declared to my family that
"Tomorrow I am making Plum Crumble."
"You don't scare me." said Brian
"Oh yeah? You just wait."
I went to the store and bought a bag full of plums along with all my other groceries.
And that night I didn't make plum crumble.
BUT the next morning it was made and I called BIG B at work and told him he might just want to come home for lunch and some delicious crumbly plum stuff.
At least I hoped it was delicious because I hadn't tasted it yet.
No worries. It WAS delicious.
"Yum. I didn't think you'd do it."
"Whatever! Didn't you see me tear out the page and everything?"
"Yes, but I've seen you tear out quite a number of pages from magazines and..."
Whatever.
Thanks Southern Living.
Thanks plums in season.
It was delicious.

guess what?

I was wiping off the counters quickly so I could sweep and then clean the floors and got a little too close to a stack of magazines and WOOSH!
(you know - woosh - when you wipe your hand passed that sharp paper edge that has no business being sharp!)
I got myself a stingy ouchy papercut underneath the fingernail of my left hand middle finger.
Man, that smarts.
just thought I'd let you know
back to cleanin'
