29 Sept 2007 : The EYE

Early in the morning at 8.30am, YCY & CL picked us up for breakfast. We never thought that the dim sum could be nice but it turned out to be not bad.
After checking out, we went to Tasik Titiwangsa. The ride would not be so pleasant without little CY. It was actually nothing to be seen on top since the eye was not as tall as we thought. And the day was hazy.
We then headed to Keong's apartment nearby while YCY & CL went directly to KLCC. We went to take a look at Metro Wangsa. It was almost completed (80% ?).

It was almost 4 pm when we reached KLCC. Little CY was complaining as he was hungry. We had a whopper in Burger King. At the same time, PL fed little CY his milk since he refused to eat the bread. We did not have a good time in KLCC as we had limited time. Besides, it was always difficult to go window shopping with CC.

We arrived in Tgk at 7.30pm, just right for the dinner. Our belly was full with dishes from tgk assam ikan at 8.30pm.

28 Sept 2007 : Mid Valley

Yesterday, we had a simple prayer for mom on her death anniversary. Spent a night in tangkak and departed to KL this morning after breakfast.
We stayed over in Mid Valley. Coincidently, the Garden was opened last few days on 26th Sept.
But, we did not wander in the mall since we were not comfortable with the smell in the building, mostly due to those new finishing, wood and building material. (high VOC definitely) And, while we crossed the"tunnel" (made of cloth by canopy concept) from mid valley, the dust was blown towards us by the wind !
We turned our head back to the Mid Valley to have our lunch. It was difficult to make a choice on the lunch venue with the long list of food/beverages on the directory. We finally settled ourselves in Manhattan Fish Market. Little CY loves the dory that he had much of the fish.
It was 2.30 pm when our stomach was full. PL went on for an almost 3-hour shopping, spending most of her time in JJ; CC & little CY went back to the room. Little CY had a 2 hour nap just before PL knocked on the door.
The shopping added more clothes in PL & little CY's wardrobe - 1 t-shirt & 2 blouse for PL; 2 t-shirt & 1 pant for little CY.
We then met up with YCY & CL in the evening for dinner in Amarin. They were so reluctant to leave when it was time for little CY to sleep. Little CY enjoyed their company as well.

22 Sept 2007 : Lantern Festival

Little CY was invited for the lantern festival celebration. Yeah... it was for little CY. The people staying here knew him more than knowing who his parents are. We went down to the pool at around 7pm. The food was ready that we started to satisfy our taste bud. The big feast was prepared by an auntie alone ! The food : lontong, rendang chicken, bee hoon, mee, yam rice, dessert like tarts, agar-agar and many others. It was the first year that CY celebrated lantern festival. He was busy observing the lantern hanging at the trees and those that carried by the koko & cheche.

20 Sept 2007 : BK

BK Permas Jaya was reopened !
We were on our back from the local authorities to submit letter and get PL's green book when we spotted that BK was in business again.
Without hesitation, PL stepped in for her long waited Whoppersince it was lunch time. After filling up our stomach, WJ packed an apple pie back for a co-worker.
The day went off fast with paper work to be completed.
PL packed back some dishes and kuih from the cafeteria for dinner. Makcik cooked some great food for buka puasa.

15 Sept 2007 : Iris & Sia

It was the 2nd wedding dinner we attended together with little CY. His "god mother" finally found the opprotunity to meet him in person. He dozed off at 9pm in the noisy environment. The karaoke was loud and did not stop him from falling into his sweet dream.
We took a leave earlier before the last 2 dishes at 10pm.

10 Sept 2007 : Happy lantern festival

PL has been eyeing to take these photos since last week. Today, we had our late lunch in pizza hut that PL finally snapped the photos.

10 Sept 2007 : Time to say good bye

It was then the last day in Penang.
When blogging on our holidays in Penang, we could not help but talk more on food than others. ;p
We started our day by having breakfast in Seng Thor Coffee shop.
Our flight was at 11.40am that it would be too rushed for us to enjoy the home cook lunch. Anyhow, mom cooked some delicious dishes for the prayer that we got to drink the soup and eat the noodles before leaving.

The flight did not delay and we arrived earlier in fact. We reached home at around 2pm.

09 Sept 2007 : 3rd day in Penang

Today was basically family day. PL did go for a massage at 3pm - 5pm. Other than that, we spent the day with family.Morning :
The day started off with a walk at Explanade, followed by breakfast in Chowraster market. We visited the kopitiam as usual for PL's favourite kuoy teow tng, PL's mom favourite chee cheong fun and CC's favourite curry mee.
Aunt GI & grandmother arrived at around 10.30am. Matthew & Amanda did not follow Aunt GI because they thought we might need to squeeze into one car. After unloading toys for CY, we went to Giant.

Afternoon : Lunch was at the Ribs. PL's mom suggested a Nyonya restaurant in Abu Siti Lane but we could not find the restaurant. Suspected that it was closed down. The electricity went off when our appertizer arrived. Luckily, the day was not hot with rain dropping. If not, we would be suffocated in the supposed-to-be-air-conditioned restaurant. Throughout the lunch, the electricity supplies was not resumed. Accordingly, the TNB was hanging those lanterns and connecting the cable that it tripped off the area.

Ribs by its name was popular with its ribs. However, we could not eat more than 2 pieces of the ribs with the thick bbq sauce and the portion was large per pax. To our relief, we only ordered 4 main courses.

Evening : After the massage session together with Carolyn, PL was back just in time for our dinner. Hong & PL had the same idea of visiting the Hai Nan town. (Brother-Sister-in-thinking) Tanjung City Marina was indeed a scenic tourist spot. There were 2 restaurants - Hai Nan Town and another was a Western restaurant.

We left only half day tomorrow in Penang. Our trip was too short due to the little one. PL did not get to meet up most of her friends, visit her favourite shopping mall and fill her stomach with most of the hawker food. Thus, we should plan for 1 week stay in Penang if possible.

08 Sept 2007 : Good morning..

We woke up early as usual on the Saturday morning.

The sky was still dark when we hopped into the car. Mom suggested to have our breakfast in Leong Kee Tea Garden. The dim sum was average but we loved the century egg porridge.

After filling up our stomach, we visited PL's grandmother (little CY's great grandmother).

KE fetched us at 11am at home, leaving behind the dark chocolate she bought in Belgium. TT was back home from the State. We have not met for years. We spent an hour or more at her house, chatting, viewing photos and "entertaining" little CY. It was almost 1 pm when we finally decided what to have for our lunch - cendol (all except CY), penang laksa (PL) , loh bak (All except CY that could only taste on the beancurb), loh mee (CC) and char kuoy teow (KE). Up for you to imagine how delicious of the food since we did not take any photos.

07 Sept 2007 : Arrival

We departed from home at 8.30am, after packing up 2 luggages, 1 laptop, 1 baby bag and the stroller. We were in the taxi for 45 minutes and glad that little CY was well behaved.
At the check in line, we came across Chee. And, he broke the news that the flight was going to be delayed for 3 hours ! What a shock ! We were given a refreshment at Marry brown. Little CY got his share on the chicken burger and pepsi. (suprisingly ! But how could a baby consume these ? So, he finished off the bun but the chicken and topping were in mommy & daddy's stomach, not forgettting the pepsi as well)We touched down at around 3 pm. Throughout the 45-minute flight, little CY played with the baby fan, drank his milk, ate his bread, smiled to the passengers at the back, played with his little fingers, but never stopped and took a nap at all.Hong fetched us up. And little CY dozed off in the car. Upon arrival, we were greeted with home cook dishes prepared by PL's mom.

06 Sept 2007 : Gifts

Have been looking for some goodies to bring back to Penang.
The final decision was : mooncake (specially selected from those brands that originated from Johor)

And, PL also found the sea salt at the organic corner in JJ for mom.

06 Sept 2007 : Logo in our hands

PL & her co-workers came out this idea. Orh... initially, it should be the roof top photo session..But we used that idea for ERT yesterday, thus we ended up with "logo in our hands"...
A few of us was / were :
1. on shift
2. on leave
3. late for the session
4. in production
5. MIA due to the poor photographer skill (one of us was cut into half and another was totally not captured in the frame !)
So, the cut & paste was done at the 2nd slide by PL to include everyone.

Yeah... We were always crazy.....during playtime..

04 Sept 2007 : Hungry Ghosts Prayer

"On 15th day of the seventh moon in the Chinese Lunar calendar, the Chinese believe the gates of Hell are opened and the spirits of the dead are let loose to wander among the living. This marks the beginning of the Hungry Ghost Festival and is the climax of a month long celebration. This festival celebrates a connection between the living and the dead, earth and heaven as well as body and soul.
Prayers are offered to the dead and offerings of food such as chicken, vegetables, fruits, bean curd, white rice, bowls of noodles, sweetmeats, cakes and other treats are placed at street corners and along roadsides to appease the spirits. The Chinese leave these offerings to discourage the Ghosts from entering their homes and causing trouble or bringing bad luck.
Shrines are filled with offerings to the dead, Hell money is burned to provide ancestors with means to purchase comforts.

The 30th day of the seventh moon is the last day of the festival. At midnight, the ghosts return to Hell and the gates are shut after them. Paper offerings and other goods are burnt in a giant bonfire as a final gift. " -Suzette Toms

PL and her colleagues had a prayer in the plant. PL was not religious but would normally join this event.
They have more Chinese colleagues this year. Still remember the first year we had the Hungry Ghost Prayer, we only had 15 persons. Since the prayer was not a culture for the company, we set up the altar along the roadside which was extremely hazardous with vehicles passing by.
On the second year, we have a few more person with a better setup.
This was the third year and we still enjoyed the fun of doing things together.

In the mid of swallowing the chicken (*yummy*), Amer came to bid good bye to us. Ai....
