Picnic Fried Chicken

This is our favorite fried chicken recipe.  It's always crispy, nicely seasoned and juicy inside.

Picnic Fried Chicken

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour, divided
  • 2 tablespoons garlic salt
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 3 teaspoons pepper, divided
  • 2-1/2 teaspoons poultry seasoning
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1-1/2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 broiler/fryer chickens (3-1/2 to 4 pounds each), cut up
  • Oil for deep-fat frying

Directions

  • 1. In a large resealable plastic bag, combine 2-2/3 cups flour, garlic salt, paprika, 2-1/2 teaspoons pepper and poultry seasoning. In a shallow bowl, beat eggs and water; add salt and the remaining flour and pepper. Dip chicken in egg mixture, then place in the bag, a few pieces at a time. Seal bag and shake to coat.
  • 2. In a deep-fat fryer, heat oil to 375°. Fry chicken, several pieces at a time, for 5-6 minutes on each side or until golden brown and juices run clear. Drain on paper towels. Yield: 8 servings.

Music and Arts

Last week, Miss M's school held an Arts and Music Festival.  Above is Miss M with her Silly Self Portrait.

Puppets introduced each musical performance.  Madison was the puppeteer of the pink puppet.

Then, she played 3 songs as part of a trio of flutists.  I can't believe how much she's grown musically!

Last night, the high school hosted their Spring concert.  Hunter and the chorus did a wonderful job.

Here we were able to get a photo of Hunter and his girlfriend singing.  She's third from the left in the first row.  He's the boy just beside the conductor's shoulder.

We are so blessed to be part of a public school system that supports the Arts.

Bowling Theme Birthday Party

On Saturday, we had a small 11th birthday party for Miss M at our local bowling alley.  The girls bowled for an hour, then ate pizza, nachos, popcorn and birthday cupcakes for dessert.
I ordered the party plates, cups and napkins from Birthday Direct.  All other items are from Dollar Tree or Dollar General.

 Cupcake Toppers
Favors...water bottles filled with socks and labeled with
"Thanks for SPARING time to come to my party".

Our Weekend

Our Weekend of Activities started early Friday morning when Miss M had to be at school by
6:20 am to go to the music festival.

173 fifth graders from 20 area school districts sang in perfect harmony!

Miss M had a great time!

On Saturday, Hunter and his girlfriend attended the Jr./Sr. Prom.  He looks so handsome.

Jocelyn's dad works part-time as a tow truck driver and H wanted a pic on the back of the truck.
We all indulged them!

Today is Mother's Day.  We went to late Mass, went to Lowe's to pick up my new fountain for the front bed.  I love it!  I can see it right outside my window.  We went out for lunch, visited my Mom and then came home to install the fountain.

Thanks for stopping by!

Take Your Child to Work Day

Thursday was Take Your Child to Work Day, so Miss M spent the day with me in First Grade.

Here she is with one of my fellow teacher's daughter.

Here are 3 of our first grade teacher's kiddos, too.

This was on my computer at the end of the day.  LOL  Then we headed to dance before going home for the day!  It was a long day!

Confirmations

Our son was confirmed on Tuesday, April 19th by Bishop Mark Barchak at St. John Gaulbert Catherdral.  It was beautiful ceremony.  The photo above is H with the Bishop and his sponsor, his Uncle Chris.   Hunter chose St. Isidore the Farmer as his saint.

Our god-daughter was also confirmed last month at St. Michael's Church.
Her saint was Maximilian  Kolbe.

Bridal Shower for my soon to be Sister-In-Law

Today we celebrated Ashley, the soon to be next Mrs. Dryzal.  She had a baseball themed shower.
Her family and friends did a spectacular job carrying out the baseball theme.

All the tables had the same vase with 2 balls and a pendant inside sitting on a baseball tray filled with peanuts.

I made a baseball mitt watermelon to hold the fruit salad.  I was so relieved that it turned out!

I stuffed a Thirty-One bag with baking pans, cookie and muffin mixes, a menu board with easel that I made (by request of the groom to be!), and a cookbook.

Here's our Maddie with her favorite "aunt" to be.

Coloring Easter Eggs

We tried a new Easter Egg Dye Kit this year.  It was called "Glittery Tye Die".  The eggs were put into bags and dye was added to create a tie dye effect when smooshed in the bag.

It was so quick and simple that the guys even joined in.

Once the eggs were colored, then M added the glitter.

They came out nicely!
