Emily and Julia started school August 19th. It was an exciting day for all of us. Emily started 5th grade and Julia started 2nd grade. With as much school as they have had, they have always been driven to school. Meaning, my girls have never ridden a school bus to school. So this was a particularly exciting experience. Not only was it the first day of school, at a brand new school, but also the first time they got to ride a bus to and from school. I have to admit that I was pretty sad as I put them on the bus. I had to give up some control there as the bus driver drove off with my children. We have gotten used to it now after 2 weeks.
These photos show the girls excited about the first day and getting on the bus. Then getting bored as they wait for the bus, then finally getting on the bus. The last photo is a fuzzy one as I ran out the front door trying to get a photo of them getting off of the bus for the first time.
The transition back to school has been interesting. We have more time in the morning (bus picks them up at 8:25), but less time in the afternoon (bus drops them off at 4:20). They used to get home at 3 in Galveston so they had a lot more time for snack, play and homework. Now, with less afternoon time we have a short snack, right to homework, and if there is time, then a little play before bedtime routine.
And, next week the girls start their first singing lessons. They both decided they wanted to try singing this year. So we are going to try it. With the bus coming so late, I will be picking them up from school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays so that we can make it to singing class without too much rushing. This will be another transition to get used to. The start of school is always an adventure in managing schedules.
