my popo very hiong today (description is coined by shuping). LOL. keep making me laugh and laugh.
i'm at her house now - today my mission was to accompany her and help in any way needed in bao-ing ba zhang (wrapping dumplings)
Heheh! i got to wrap one bunch myself! but i only get to wrap once a year and today my po po think so highly of me (coz my first time wrapping last year produced quite beautiful ones) that she left me completely on my own... HAHAHAHAHAHAHA bad idea man...
in the end got to snip away FOUR out of 15 (est.) - couldn't passs the test. and my hands too small can only wrap small sized Ba Zhang.. hehehe :P
anw, why say she hiong leh?
today my young cousin is also here. Popo called her a fan shu becoz she kept taking the wrong things for her... it's the way she says it that makes it so farni. you know the way old cantonese people speak right?
She went like, "zhen hai faaan suuu ah lei..." (really sweet potato ar youuu)
and for the whole day she kept saying my cousin Chun (dumb). hahahahahaha but she's just making fun. coz my cousin is like many other kids, whatever u ask her to do she wont; whatever u ask her not to do she will freaking do it.
the last straw came went her mom was mopping the floor and asked her to stay put. so needless to say she intentionally goes and walk back and forth somemore. Anyone see liao also du lan. ending up got scolding from evryone... finally popo said something that landed me in stitches.
"Lei zi mh zi ju hai dim sei ga?!"
(do you know how pigs die?)
waaaaa biiiang i ji tao burst out laughing man!!!
Sunday 2pm
today's my second day bao-ing. but only got to wrap five only. BUT this time much much much nice than yesterday! the shape is much nicer and i got to put slightly more liao inside too! hehehe... here's popo in action!
First, she selects the leaves...
then she stuffs in the liao...
and fills it up ith rice
This is how much she wraps in one morning
then she boils them in this big pot
after a few hours, she take sone out for me to try =D
the ones i wrap only 2/3 of this size...
hehe so fun!
and while i wrap my ba zhang, she'll sit beside and tell me alot of stories! like yesterday, a childhood friend of HERS CALLED! Den while she chatted, i listened and smiled along as she laughed. After that, she told me about her kampong days while she was a KID! imagine leh, a Popo 70+ liao still able to tell me stuff about her childhood.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaa...
then she suddenly recalled - the person who called her was the one who taught her how to wrap ba zhang!
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAa...
my goodness, this tradition really went back a long long long way. and i'm so blessed and honoured to be under my popo's wing learning the ropes (or shud i say rafia strings)!
