Nobleton-King City Garden Tour a joy

 Photos by Barry Wallace
The 2015 Nobleton & King City Garden Show had excellent weather and appreciative visitors on Sunday.   There were nine properties to visit: three in Fairfields Estates on Dufferin Street, across from Seneca College; one on Keele Street, across from Black Forest Garden Centre; two in the village of King City; one in Nobleton and two on the 16th Sideroad, north of Nobleton.   All nine properties are represented in the photos here.

New Country Day School building impresses

 Photos by Barry Wallace
While driving along the King road, east of King City, one can see, in the distance to the north, the new Country Day School addition rising amidst the surrounding green fields, farmland and woodlots of King.   But it's not until you drive onto the grounds and see the new college building up close, that one appreciates its size and presence.   The scope of the project no doubt has some influence on the length of time it is taking to complete the impressive structure.   The large plastic billboard (below) in front of the new building shows how it will look when completed.

Shiny fire trucks often give me a pang of guilt

 Photos by Barry Wallace

Whenever I drive by the firehalls in King Township and see the trucks out front gleaming in the sunlight, I always have a twinge of guilt because my fire-engine-red Jeep Liberty never seems to be as clean as the big red beauties often on display for the township's residents (and taxpayers) to admire as they drive by the stations.   My home is only 3 or four blocks away from the King City station, which I must pass three or four times a day.   Whenever I get home, I look at my 13-year-old Jeep and think, yeah, I should probably get it washed.   Whenever I get it washed however, I always think it  pales in comparison to the shiny, scarlet behemoths, pictured above.

Nobleton's Davis Park ~ a world apart

                                                                                       Photos by Barry Wallace

The walking trail around the swamp in the centre of Nobleton's Davis Park, which lies between Sheardown Drive and Mactaggert Avenue, west of Hwy. 27, continues to be another world in the village where residential and commercial development offers little in the way of natural quietude and escape from the demands of our modern-day hectic lifestyle.

Busy times at the museum in Kinghorn

 Photos by Barry Wallace
The museum is a busy spot these days as construction of a large new patio behind the museum (photo above) is well underway.   At the same time, the museum's Pan Am Games horse statue has been painted by King children (photo below) and returned to the museum where it will be on permanent display.   Also taking place is Arts Society King's summer painting exhibition and sale (see photo at bottom).

More of King City's daily auto show

 Photos by Barry Wallace
Here is another trio of intriguing rides photographed in front of Hogan's Inn in King City.   At top is a 'Black Beauty' late-model Jaguar XJ 4-door sedan.   Below is a classic Daimler convertible from the mid-50s.   At bottom is a 1973 Dodge Tradesman van called "The Steam Weaver" from Steam Whistle Brewery.   The Steam Weaver is one of several older vehicles, in company colours, owned and operated for mainly promotional purposes by the brewery.   They are frequent visitors to King City.

Sitting still the whole day long

TREE FROG
Can you see me in the trees?
Bright and green like springtime leaves.
Eyes like glass so shiny bright,
I can see you in the night.
                                        reebit...reebit
                                        I am here.
My sticky tongue is made for bugs,
Bugs that bite and bugs that buzz
Do you like bugs?   Well I do too.
So eat your bugs and stay in school.
                                        eerbit...eerbit
                                        You can hear.
                                        reebit...reebit
                                        I am here.
