Home and doing well....

Waiting to go in, in his cute hospital pajamas.

Right after the surgery, he just wanted mommy.
We got to come home this morning. Zach was on oxygen all day yesterday and last night but this morning did pretty well. The nurses were great and we really appreciate all they did. Except for some annoying worker at 1:30 in the morning when they brought another baby into our shared room (Grrrr), even though there were other empty rooms, and the worker had no consideration for the fact that we were sleeping. He was chatting loudly away and banging things and in general putting himself at risk for a tongue lashing from me, especially when he woke Zach up. We finally SSHHHushed him very loudly and it finally clicked that he was being a jerk. Other than that, they were all great.

Getting some much needed rest.
We got home just before noon and headed straight to the doctor for Jaiden and Austin because they were sick. Then we went to Wal-Mart for the cough medicine and other "necessities" then came home and everyone had a nap. Thanks so much to Carlos' mom and my parents for all of their help, we really appreciate it.

Getting ready to go home.

I should be sleeping...

I really need to go to bed! Zach is doing well but is still on the oxygen. He's just having a hard time keeping his oxygen levels up on his own. He hates the thing in his nose! He's sleeping right now and we hope that we have a peaceful night but should be getting another baby in the other side of the room soon so we'll see how that goes. I almost had a panic attack at the thought of sharing the room with someone. I went and walked around and went up and down the stairs a few times to try and calm down. We're on the fourth floor so I was definitely out of breath if nothing else. The RN was really nice and was going to try and see if there was a private room for us but I told her it was okay and I'm sorry I'm such a psycho freak when it comes to people and privacy. She was very understanding and just having someone validate those feelings helped me to calm down enough. I'm hoping the just don't wake Zach up!
Thanks for the prayers and the thoughts, we really appreciate them. He should be able to go home tomorrow but I don't know what they'll do if he is still needing the oxygen. Okay, now I'm falling asleep...............zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

In the Hospital

We decided that it was best to replace Zach's shunt so they operated early this morning. Things went well and he will hopefully just have to stay overnight. He was a really sad boy when he woke up and all he wanted was food and his mommy. He was in quite a bit of pain so they ended up giving him morphine and he's sleeping now. He also has a little bit of oxygen because his saturation has had a hard time staying up. Overall, he's doing well. He was actually pretty "happy" after they first gave him the morphine! ;)

Happy Birthday Austin!

Austin is 2!
We'll celebrate on Saturday but I was able to get some cute pictures of him today.

He is such a sweet, thoughtful little boy.
He can play quietly by himself for a long time.
He likes to sit and read books by himself and he loves to dance and sing.
He gives great mmmuuuaas (kisses) and has the sweetest little voice.

He is such a little guy and about as stubborn as they come.
He can be very serious or very silly and everything in between.
We love you Austin!

What?!?!

There was recently a recall for the type of shunt Zach has because the tube that goes into the ventricles in the brain can become disconnected. They offered a free CT scan to check the shunt. I finally called a couple of weeks ago and they got us in on the 10th. They said the neurosurgeon would call us back in a few days but he actually called barely an hour later, just as we were getting ready to pull out of the garage to head to Vernal for the weekend. He said that of the dozen (or two- I don't remember exactly) scans that they've done, his was the first one to actually be disconnected. So we are meeting with him this Thursday to decide what the best course of action is at this point. We'll just have to wait and see... This is how Zach feels about another possible operation:

Easter

Here's a slideshow of our Easter pictures. We went out to Vernal on Friday afternoon and came home Sunday afternoon. We also have the Easter Bunny come on Saturday and then had an Easter Egg Hunt later tha afternoon. It rained most of the day so it was inside. The kids had a lot of fun and so did the adults!

More posts below!

There are three new posts! Don't forget to comment or I'll feel really bad and will probably cry! Okay, not really, but it's always fun to get comments!

Dear Mommy,

We wanted so badly to pull an April Fool's joke on you but we couldn't think of what to do. We had already thrown all of our toys all over and taken all of the cushions off the couch, among other things that are really daily occurances. But we felt like today really deserved a special treat. After lots and lots of scheming, we came up with the perfect plan. As soon as you went upstairs for a few minutes, we sprang into action. This was going to be great!

Uh-oh! We think that dropping the glass 9x13 baking dish on the floor gave us away because that big crash, which luckily didn't break anything, tipped you off. Oh no, you hadn't been gone long enough to finish!

Although this is what you found;

Our plan was to mix up the flour, sugar and powdered sugar so that when you went to make something, everything would be mixed together. We promise that we were going to clean up the mess before you came so that you wouldn't know something was up. We shouldn't have dropped that dish and then the execution of our plan would have been perfect!

Love,

Your sons

p.s. We're very sorry about the static shock you got when you were trying to use the shop-vac to clean up. You and Daddy should know by now that vacuums and powders (flour, baking soda, etc) don't mix.

p.s.s. At least you got to clean the stove and oven really well!

Haircuts

I trimmed Zach's hair around the edges a month ago, it was his first haircut. I've never been good about saving my babies' hair from their first cut. I would probably lose it anyway. Here are some before, during and after shots.

Okay, so a little blurry, but look how cute!
No! Not my ear!
So handsome!

Now, a month later, I'm afraid he needs all of his hair trimmed, not just the edges!

Whatd'ya think?!?!

I think I may have a new addiction

I have really been enjoying food blogs. I can't say it's a bad thing because for those of you who know how much I dislike cooking, it's inspiring me to try new things and to *try* to enjoy the old. I do, however, love to bake and I'm finding lots of evil recipes. Check out some of the links on my sidebar.

This was from Phemomenom, the Coconut Loaf Cake with Thick Lime Glaze. I baked it in a small pan and baked the rest in a silicone muffin mold. I needed some for dinner the next day when we were having people over but didn't want to wait until then to try it. So I divided it up. I liked the muffins better because I over-baked the cake just a little and so it was a little drier. But they were so good! My glaze wasn't as thick as hers either, so I'll have to experiment next time. I think I would double the glaze too, because it was so good.

Yummers!
