Dream

I dreamt last night that on the way home from school, I ran into my army friends who just returned from outfield.

They stank like a mixture of rotten toenails and crushed snails. They were all like " eh!! you Chao keng ah!" And they "hugged" me.

I burst awake to hear the garbage truck moving out. shaking the smell throughout the neighbourhood, and taking with it, half a week's trash.

And we start another day.

At Everything with fries!

After dinner, we trooped to holland, and there's this new place! Just desserts and fries!
We had the nutella tart, which was too rich for me, but steph and jamie were lapping it up. I liked the crepe cake! very rich vanila cream.. mmmmh mmmh..
But overall, everything there got the girls very excited. Haha..

Steph's run was all wasted.

Had 2 rehearsals today, and yeah, for once both were very fruitful. I think what jamie says is right, I should be more positive about things that I've chosen. No point dragging my feet through it. After all, it doesn't help anyone, not even myself.

It kinda makes me look bad to keep bashing my own choices. What would people say?

Which is also the reason I should not complain about the math from my major. I chose it, not society or my parents. But I did have the fight with them with regards to my major. Most kids win. I kinda didn't, there was no conclusion, and there were just a lot of political science and history bashing, and me trying to defend those disciplines with my retarded army brain.

But ultimately, the decision was mine, and I made the choice. I have come to really love it. A real sucker for every little but of economic trivia and new information.

So.. Yeah. Let's not complain.

Now, a lesson in rhythm management

School today has got to be one of the most fun ever.

Firstly, Public finance tutorial was not as tense nor as intimidating as the rest of the other EC modules. Why can't every lecturer be as encouraging as prof Chia?

Yes yes, I know; mollycoddling does more bad than good at the university level, and that we should be taught to overcome slightly more rigorous problems on our own without the lecturer's help. It's just comforting to know that you won't get cut down by some of your fellow coursemates' judgmental eyeballing, and the pathetic sympathetic vote from your tutor saying "good try, can someone else come up and finish this problem?". (Not that it's happened to me yet)

I guess with a better environment for tutorials, I'll have nothing to complain in the event of mediocrity. So.. we'll see. You're my witness.

Anyway, moving on, today's music in the global context class was really quite enjoyable as we actually got to play the mirdangam.

This two ended south indian drum. Was initially really surprised at the weight, not to mention that my palms and fingers really hurt after a few rounds on the talems at different gatis. I'm not sure if I'm using those words correctly, but it was really fun! Might actually go and check out their music school. To think MEP back in ACSI was enough exposure. We don't know much at all.

The Indian rhythmic training is really very foolproof. They match every different stroke on the drum is matched by a corresponding vocal syllable. So the Mirdangam player can literally "rap" whatever they are going to play out for you; up to 9 beats in a "bar", and then double time, triple time and even quadruple time it.

Fun Fun.

Speaking of complex rhythms, recently, I've once again been addicted to the first album of Linkin Park, i still remember all the lyrics. Something about the nu-metal alternativeness thing they do makes me feel sec 2 again.

Okay, I've got an NOC Interview tomorrow. Really quite nervous. -ommmm-

Night.

The study of economics

Joke I heard over the weekend regarding the discipline of economics.

A man walked out a bar and spotted another man, on his knees, by the side of the road. The first guy asked him,

"what are you doing?"

"I've lost my keys, I dropped them just now."

"Well, let me help you... Where did you last see them?"

"Over there, further down the road."
The first man was puzzled, "then why don't you look for them there??"

Second guy goes, "Well, the light's much better here, I can see much better."

Economics looks at the things they we already know, and then try to understand why it's like that. Why savings lead to a higher growth rate in the solow model, why the firm will empoly only certain amount of labour to be profitable. They all all useful and great, but what is it for?

Plenty of economic studies are done with assumptions and conditions that we already know, and we stay there, trying to solve our problems in the same spot. Static, steady states trying to prove general equilibrium. Though analytical sound and empirically rigorous, we often overlook the real driver behind growth and development; the technology and innovation, that economic theory just fails to provide a satisfactory answer to some of the breakthrough that really changes things. On our graphs, it's just a means to a new equilibrium, another business cycle.

Oh, and since I'm on the topic.... Check this out.

OKOKOKOKOKOKOKKOKKOKKOKOKKOKK

So did i type a whole bunch or Okays or KOs?

I don't really know as well.

All I know is that I haven't been around here for a while.

I gained a little weight since the last time, did a lot more math, got a lot more committed, got addicted to bejeweled, quit, and addicted again. Got twitter, and still very much on it. became more involved in church. And hopefully became more wise.Yup.. haha.

2009 was a year of disappointment much, but it did let me see how YOU worked in my life, and for that I give thanks.

So, 1 month into 2010, it's been pretty hectic. Applying for NOC (NUS overseas college) programme, where i get to spend 1 year abroad doing an extended internship concentrated in the fields of entrepreneurship and start-ups, and taking courses in famous universities. Lets turn on the entrepreneur in me.

It's getting late and I've rehearsal tomorrow
Now, here's to me keeping this alive.

Doesn't pay to be helpful around the house.

So i had a really nice supper at home today, and after i'm done, for some reason, i was feeling really helpful, so i went to wash my plate, and along with it the rest of the plates in the sink.
The last plate i washed and shelved accidentally hit another bowl, and knocked it off the rack. The bowl broke apart into about 5 different pieces in the sink. I was quite shocked, and didn't really know what happened. I felt a prick on my left pinky then i realised i had been wounded in the line of duty, a fragment ricocheted off the sink and hit me. Just then, mother, who heard the ruckus in the kitchen came out and saw me like that..... i was hoping for some sympathy,

her first reaction was, "why you never catch the bowl?" Now i have a deep cut on my finger and my mom places the bowl in higher regard than me. FML..

I'm quite creative no??
