Grandma Bushell

For the past 4 -6 weeks, mom has been having a lot of problems with her legs and her disease has been in a flare up. This has caused quite a bit of inactivity on her part as she has been in almost constant pain. She has not had a lot of strength and we have been trying to help her as much as possible in this difficult time.
On Wednesday Night, Oct 21 Mom fell and broke her Femur just above the Knee. This was a very bad break needed surgery to repair. Dr. Richter, (her doctor that fixed her ankle 2 years ag) did the surgery and he said that everything went very well. However, She has to go 10 Weeks with no weight bearing on that leg. The concern is that we will loose what she has in strength and will never get it back. We are trying to be positive and are hoping she will be able to walk again.
On Sunday, we moved her from the Hospital to the Crestwood Care Center in Ogden. This is the place that worked the miracles last time and we are hopeful for a repeat performance.

She is trying to stay positive but I think this will be a true test of her wills. She has a very, very long road ahead. She has her Cell phone with her if you wanted to call and talk to her. Also, she can receive mail or letters of encouragement at the facility.

Please keep her in your prayers as we need her to walk again.

LABOR Day!!!!!!!!!

The past few years we spend our September harvesting our fruit and vegetables and then canning them. This is a very labor intensive activity and one that normally Stacey and I work on all day. This takes an entire day for Tomotoes and another day for Peaches. Then we typically spend another day doing salsa, Chili Sauce, and other misc items. We also will do jams. While this is a lot of work, the efforts are worth it as we have plenty to last us for the coming year.

The treat this year was the Awesome help we got from the kids. A week ago, Stacey and Megan went and got Tomatoes and spent an entire Saturday canning tomotoes. 50 Quart bottles. We worked until almost 9:00 pm. Megan was there from the beginning thru the end. She was a trooper and it was awesome to see a little bit of maturity show as she worked so hard. I told them to let me take a picture for the blog but the tomatos were put into storage before I got a picture.

This brings us to today. Labor Day. We discussed doing some fun things but after some discussion, we decided that today was the day to get our Pears and Peaches done. The treat was that Nick decided he was going to be our helper. Nick stood at the sink and peeled, cut, cored, and put fruit into the bottle for about 5 hours. I wonder however if Nick ate more peaches than he put into bottles or not. He was pretty full. That Kid love peaches. He is the best helper. I told him that he deserved something nice and he suggested a 30 Dollar bill. I thought I might try to print one for him. Although I dont think that is what he meant.
We ended up with 11 quarts of Pears and 44 Quarts of Peaches. This will last nicely for the coming year.
When it was all said and done, it was a very satisfying Labor Day.... You all should be so lucky to have a Nick or a Megan. What would we do without them.
