The Great Haircut and Other Random Things

Merry Christmas to all of you!  There's been well "bunches" happening so this is a catch up post.  Lucy has been begging me for months to cut her hair off.  When I asked her how short she wanted it she pointed somewhere well above her ears (keep dreaming darling girl).  I really didn't want to cut it, I have so much fun putting braids and buns and whatever else strikes my fancy that cutting it seemed like the loss of my favorite dress up doll!  Point in case.  Lucy is not a dress up doll, she is an individual. While I still micromanage her wardrobe, letting her have some leeway with her hair seemed okay.  So off we went to the hairdresser to get it cut to a compromised chin length.  Here are the pictures:

I'm tearing up at this point

No going back now!

The happy girl + a bonus look at our messy car! ;)

Yesterday was also Lucy's Christmas program at preschool.  The Theme was "Light of the World" and all the kids did great.  It's always fun to see all the different personalities up there.  Lucy usually participates but is somewhat reserved.  She always says she feels shy, I tell her I can totally relate.  Shy girls unite!

I think they are singing Hallelujah in this picture.
The boy to the right of her is who she wants to marry. ;)

They do a great job with the set

In Lucy's words, "I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!"

Okay last couple of pictures!  A huge thanks to GG who sent these window clings!  The kids LOVED sticking "stickers" on their windows.  Very festive indeed.  The perfect thing for a fairy ballerina princess and Snow White to do on a Saturday afternoon!

We can't leave Stewart out of this post!  Popa bought him his first boots a few months ago and now Stew's big enough to fit them. We went to take Christmas pictures this past weekend and Chris snapped this one.  What a handsome Christmas Cowboy! (Thanks for the boots Popa)

Mermaid Tea Parties and #5!

When we came up with the idea of a mermaid tea party I thought it was so cute.  "Different", the voice in my head said.  I'm into things being different, no regular fairy tea parties here thank you! Of course, the problem is that the ideas in my head and the realities of my time, energy, and checkbook often go into war with one another.  Which is why I have to hand it to God for saving me on this one.  Does God care about mermaid tea parties?  Yes He does.  Because He cares for Lucy and He cares for her over-stressed, perfectionist mother. Somehow between friends loaning me dishes, reminding me that it's more important to be sane for Lucy at her party, lending me moral support as I baked hours before the party, and Chris staying up way past his bedtime to help me tape multiple streamers to the ceiling I was reminded how much God cares about the details of our lives. Is it too important to me that everything look the best it can?  Yes it is.  Unfortuately I'm on a slow learning curve in this area of my life.  But the decorations did truly turn out better than I could have hoped and that is not a tribute to me but to God.  A God who knows me well enough to care that I care about the decorations for a mermaid tea party. A God who loves me well enough to teach me that even if everything had fallen apart it wouldn't have changed who I am in HIM.  Besides,  I'm pretty sure Lucy was just excited to have some friends over and consume sugar.  Although she did pronounce it to be, "The best tea party EVER!"

What a big 5 year old!

So that was Saturday and last night we celebrated her actual birthday. When she woke up in the morning Chris told her happy birthday to which she said, "But I don't feel five! I'm not any bigger"  By the end of the day she did say she was feeling more like a five year old. She helped me bake her cake and was sooo patient waiting to open gifts until Chris got home.  Here are (yes more) pictures of the day. :)

Testing, Testing 123

Just checking to see if this works.  It's currently almost one o'clock in the morning and I'm truly hoping this is not a glimpse of what's to come...
