have you ever realized that mexico is spelled ocixem backwards?

good: look how much fun we had in sayulita!

great: look how much ammunition we gave people around us to make fun of us

good: the house we rented looked like something straight out of the flinstones and had incredible views overlooking the entire town

great: the incredible views were replaced by the incredible night sounds, including the blind roosters who didn't know the difference between midnight and dawn and what i'm pretty sure was a marching band that started practicing on the town square at 3am...what in the??

good: having the bug with us!!!

great: one word - babysitter!

good: coconut milk straight from the source

great: coconut milk straight from a curly straw

good: all the time in the world to contemplate the meaning of life

great: even more time to play on the beach and in the sunshine!

sing us a song you're the (traveling) piano man (who sits on the back of a truck)

in accordance with our wonderfully random life, we got an email from some guy asking if he could stay with us for a few days as he passed through town. our answer was an immediate, "no doi, yes!" and that's how we got the pleasure of hosting danny kean:

what's so great and random about this guy, you ask? why, he's spent the last four years of his life driving around the country in a truck with a piano on the back, of course.

(i kind-of feel like i just recreated that part in disneyland's haunted mansion where they show part of the picture first and then it zooms out to the whole picture and the story completely changes...)

anyway, as i was saying before i distracted myself with my disney-like genius, we had a fun few days hanging out with danny and playing the piano on the back of a truck...naturally. we even took the whole fam out to pearl street in a desperate attempt to get people to notice us (please cover that last sentence in a good coat of sarcasm). the boy got to play (multiple versus of chopstix) while danny drived.

danny's first goal is to make people happy. danny's second goal is to get oprah to notice him and pull some strings so he can play his truck piano while someone drives him across the field at next year's superbowl...

...i have to be honest, i'm at a loss of words for what else to even write here. sometimes the pure randomness in my life awes even myself.

good luck, danny!

(another) new blog!

i've decided that with all of my incredible cooking and gardening skills, i'd better start a new blog dedicated to my attempts with food! if nothing else, it should provide a good laugh...

you spin me right 'round baby right 'round

i heart the boy because he sometimes randomly surprises me with spin art makers. we were promised that we could make cool things like mobiles (get ready for some sweet nursery revamping, quincy) and caterpillar room decor!

i guess i never realized how empty my life has been until i saw that a spin art caterpillar could be part of it...so we started our masterpieces. it looked pretty dang cool while it was spinning...

...but then the spinning stopped. turns out i kind-of suck at spin art.

the boy on the other hand appears to be a master spinner. his circle can be the caterpillar's head.

we figured we should let the family be part of the fun and games, so we used milo as a table top.

he was happy

you would think that practice makes perfect, but as it were (isn't that a funny phrase?), mine seemed to get even yuckier.

and then the boy pulled out all the stops

as it were (maybe it gets less funny the more you say it?), even a pro spinner can't salvage artwork made of hot dog condiments.

i don't think that one will go on our caterpillar room decor...
