We're taking it to that bastard ASAP!

I mentioned Paul's "Lich Lord" game last time. No clue if he has a name for the campaign...if he does, I've not heard it, so it's the "Lich Lord" game. Paul was running this for his other game group, from what I understand, and brought it over when we decided to get this group going.

I was told to make a 9th level character, so I whipped up a Wizard/Sorceror/Ultimate Magus because the party of 1 I would be joining had 0 arc-tillery. Paul and I hashed out a quick background in which my character had tasked herself with seeking the notes on the spellcraft of a particular mage, who I had later found out was a lich. No foreshadowing here...

I hooked up with Henry's Druid and Brenton's Cleric joined us for this session. We had no meatshields in this group at all and were all running pure caster archetypes. Joy!

After heckling the Druid for some non-Druidy things, we all made peace and came up against a guy that set his minions upon us. What were they, you ask? Vampiric Rabbits. That's right...vampiric bunnies. So they did some hurting on us because they're fast. We completely kill the horde just in time for their master to slip away. No big deal, he's ours next time, right?

Wrong. We travel more, coming upon a cottage besieged by vampiric wolves and worgs and that Lost Boy wannabe. We take out his pack o' hounds and he slips away again! Given, he had hidden this time and only one character saw him fly away. Can't remember who, but I wish it had been me, so I could have blasted him with a long range spell . A kindly lady in the cottage takes us in for the day, because we chose to travel nights since we were dealing with vampires. She gives us each a charm of some sort and sends us on our way that night.

We have to slip through an old burial ground on our way to the lich lord's place. Our cleric decides to camp in the thing while the druid and my mage hole up on the other side. Long story short; our cleric is swarmed by shadows and joins their ranks. Henry and I continue and are given the option to make extra characters. We both make stabby/slicey types. He a Paladin, me a Fighter. We enter another graveyard at the base of the ridge that takes us to the lich's manor and encounter some crap undead bolstered by 4 Bleakborn. Dunno if you know these baddies, but they suck your heat and use it to fuel themselves. Henry's Pally turns 3 of them. We fail to kill the one remaining and my fighter goes down. We're in the process of retreating with our pal the dead fighter to come up with a good plan when the last session ended.

Man...Bleakborn fucking rock.
And also, that vampire is going down!

Dark Sun so far...

As I mentioned before, I run a Dark Sun game. I had originally planned to set the game in a period well before the events of the Prism Pentad novels and most published material, but I happened to acquire a copy of the adventure Freedom right before go time, so I scrapped my idea and decided to use it as the backbone of my game. I have all the other adventures, too...I might modify and run them as well. Time will tell.

Paul and Henry are the only two players for this campaign, and actually there's just been the three of us for all but one session.

Paul's playing a Human Psion (Seer) named Goal. That's his "thing;" he likes psions and knows the powers well enough to not only use them, but use them in unique ways. He's kickass at it, too. Of course, he's also been playing D&D as long as I've been alive, so I'm sure that helps.

Henry has a Mul Gladiator named Hass. I've played very little with Henry before this game, but he's the kind of player who relishes in his characters "doing what they do." When combat rolls around, he's in that noise until there are no foes left. I see him being the same about any other character type he would play. He mentioned wanting some arena action last time we played, and that's forthcoming!

When we started the game, the party immediately turned to crime to benefit their coin pouches, working for a Templar as a press gang, "recruiting" workers for Kalak's ziggurat construction and even kidnapping a noble for him through a clever ruse. Their adventures in Tyr did much to swell their wealth and earn them respect and hate from those on the streets, but a crossing with Verrasi of Minthur led to their incarceration in a slave holding teeming with those they locked away and various other factions.

Hass has befriended a powerful Half-Giant named Urrgos through coming to the brute's aid in combat and a female Human Gladiator named Lissan, whom he trains with regularly when not working. He's caught the eye of the Master of Games and Lissan has put in word to her trainer, strengthening his chances of fighting in the grand tournaments that are coming. Paul's character Goal, on the other hand, has infiltrated a small group of conspirators who are planning a breakout and has, through his connections with his and Hass' Templar employer, concocted a set-up for the rebellious slaves which will most likely lead to their deaths.

The completion of the ziggurat draws ever closer and the various plots of Goal and Hass quickly move toward fruition. I'm interested in seeing how the PCs react to coming events. Should be action-packed and zany.

The two PCs are teamed with a DM PC (a concept I'm not a fan of, but I didn't want to have to scale down every encounter) who only chips in when things seem grim, and a couple of NPCs which the players have taken as secondary characters, which gives me the opportunity now to drop the DM PC. Things are running fairly smoothly, but I would like to recruit some more players to the game. We're moving from my house to Paul's for gaming purposes now, so maybe change of venue and playing earlier in the evening will aid in that.

I'll keep you updated, in any case...and next time, I'll delve into Paul's "Lich Lord" game.

The Complete Guide to Nothingness

The title of this post has nothing to do with anything, really. I think it might become apparent that I just ramble alot, so I guess you could take it as your warning.

So, I started this for a reason or two, one being that Jeff Rients inspired me. Another is because I want a place to whine, throw out ideas that I can get feedback on, and just generally talk about anything, my gaming in particular.

I'm currently running a Dark Sun game using D&D 3.5, and I plan to give campaign updates, so that's something to look forward to.
