Bryce and I left Monday for our post-op appointment with Dr.
Woolley. We stayed with my cousin Jennifer, her husband Rod, and their kids, Borden and Jack. Bryce loves
Buh and Jack. He talked about them the whole way up to Montgomery. They have a piano, a trampoline, and tons of big trucks to play with. What more could a 2 year old want!! He had a blast there. Jack (7) and Bryce took a bath together and Jack washed Bryce's hair and soaped him up for me. Bryce behaved better for Jack than he does for us sometimes! Borden took pictures so hopefully I can get her to share them with me.
We got up early Tues. and drove to Birmingham. We were early to the
ENT office but they took us right back. Bryce started crying when we got to the parking lot. He has never been stuck or hurt at that office, but he still doesn't like going in. He told me his ear hurt in the waiting room and I figured we were at the best place for that! (He does have the beginnings of an ear infection so he is on an antibiotic for a week). Since he was crying they didn't make him stand on the scale which made him happy. Patty (Dr.
Woolley's amazing nurse who has been there for us from the very first day we started all this) went and got Dr.
Woolley and he came right in to see Bryce. He thinks things are healing up great. The place that was
lasered by his ear is
practically gone! There are 2 more scabs that need to fall off (one big one that is itchy according to Bryce). The
lasered places around his lip have lightened up a good bit, but will need future laser treatments. (Next one scheduled June 23rd). The lip is much smaller than before. He definitely
de-bulked it
alot! There is one problem there though.....he did two layers of stitches on the lip and the bottom layer stayed in and did it's job. The upper layer came out or
dissolved early (this is when I needed a second person with me. Bryce was crying again at this point so I couldn't think to ask enough questions). It looks bad, but isn't dangerous or hurting him. It probably feels weird to him though. He feels around in that area
alot with his tongue. It looks like a canyon in his lip so it makes his lip look
alot bigger than it should. Very hard to explain, but I'll try and get a decent picture of it today. I tried last night for 10 minutes but either the camera wouldn't work right or Bryce would move too quickly! Dr.
Woolley said it was fairly common for stitches in the mouth, lips or tongue to come out early. There is just no way to keep the area still enough. He said sometimes the body will heal itself from the bottom up, like a bedsore would have to. But sometimes it doesn't so if that happens he can just re-stitch the lip. Yuck. But we've made it this far, so if a little line of stitches is all it takes, we will of course do it. He would do it when Bryce is under GA for a laser. Maybe in June if things haven't changed by then.
Thanks for checking on our little man. He amazes me everyday!!
